HTC’s been talking about which of its Androids would be seeing updates to Ice Cream Sandwich for some time now, so we’ve generally had a good idea for what to expect. We’ve already seen the company start delivering those updates to some of its lineup, leaving the question of just when it would get around to hitting the rest of them. To help with answers, the manufacturer has put together a convenient table, detailing just when it expects to make ICS available for those remaining devices.
It looks like the majority of phones that haven’t yet started [...]
As we start to get into mid-February, there are probably a lot of you out there wondering where all the Ice Cream Sandwich updates for your existing Android phones are. After all, weren’t we hoping to see these releases really start arriving in early 2012? The good news is that the wait is nearly over, at least for some HTC users. The smartphone manufacturer posted a message to Facebook this morning talking about plans for the delivery of its first Ice Cream Sandwich updates in March.
We already knew about HTC’s plans to start selling phones running Android 4.0 in [...]
HTC Android fans who are into some serious phone customization are coming home to some good news tonight, with HTC releasing the kernel source code to over half-a-dozen devices. The arrival of these code bases means that you might hope to see some new custom ROMs start arriving in the coming weeks. Just what models are covered?
First up, we’ve got the HTC Vivid, which came to AT&T early last month. Next we have the Salsa, one of the two HTC models featuring a hardware Facebook button (alongside the ChaCha). Both the original Incredible and its follow-up, the [...]
The HTC Incredible S, launched at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with Android 2.2 Froyo received its Android 2.3 Gingerbread treat at the beginning of May. The phone is now receiving another refresh in Europe which mainly updates HTC Sense.
The over-the-air update is version 3.08.405.3 (version numers might differ depending on region) and it is reportedly rolling out in Europe. It brings HTC Sense 3.0 to the Incredible S via a 228Mb download (so make sure you are connected to WiFi when you receive the update notification and proceed with the download [...]
A couple days ago, we heard about HTC’s plans to release its first smartphone with integrated support for Near Field Communications. The first device to include the feature was to be the HTC Stunning, pegged for release in China to start letting its users conduct mobile transactions through the nation’s UnionPay system. Funny thing is, it turns out that the Stunning is a phone we’re already familiar with, and its misidentification was due to a translation issue.
Apparently, Chinese for “stunning”, just like in English, isn’t too far off from [...]
It looks like Verizon will be offering the HTC Droid Incredible 2 in a new silver color to accompany the original black version — although like many lightly-colored phones these days, the face will remain dark. Although the Incredible 2/S was never one of our favorite HTC designs, the two-tone appearance works well here, in our opinion. It’s expected that the silver DI2 will maintain the same features and specs of its predecessor.
First revealed at Mobile World Congress in February, the Incredible 2 (sold globally as the Incredible S) brings an upper mid-range [...]
We knew that HTC is trying to pioneer and master the art of updating its current devices to the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread version and they are starting to roll-out over-the-air updates for the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Incredible S.
After the HTC Desire HD update, your numbers will show version 2.36.405.5 and 2.12.405.7 for the HTC Incredible S. We’ve already seen leaked Gingerbread ROMs for the HTC Desire HD and we knew some will hit this spring.
If you own one of the above mentioned two smartphones, make sure to check for the over-the-air update notification [...]
HTC seems to be able to account for an excellent first quarter of 2011 with record high quarterly revenues of NT$104.16bn ($3.63 billion) and net profits of NT$14.83bn ($517.21 million).
Additionally, HTC reportedly sold 9.7 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2011, which is 192% more than it did in the first quarter of 2010. Compared to the last quarter, Q4 of 2010, HTC sold 6% more and the higher numbers are mainly due to the growing demand for Android-powered smartphones.
Exceptional Q1 numbers are also due to smartphones just released, the Inspire 4G, [...]
The CDMA Verizon-destined version of the HTC Incredible S has just become official. The Droid Incredible 2 will be offered at the $199.99 price point starting on April 28. The device features a 4″ Super LCD WVGA display powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU with 768MB of RAM. The rear camera takes 720p HD video and can take stills at 8MP. It’ll ship with Android 2.2, but an upgrade to Android 2.3 shouldn’t be too far off. It’ll also ship with a front-facing camera, but don’t expect to get good results video chatting because the Droid Incredible 2 [...]
After HTC unified back in January all HTC Android smartphones in terms of the HTC Sync software with version 3.0.5511, the harmony has been once again disturbed with the Taiwanese manufacturer releasing HTC Sync version 3.0.5517 for HTC Incredible S and HTC Desire S.
HTC Sync allows you to sync your Outlook contacts and calendar or Outlook Express contacts as well as your browser favorites from your computer to your Android smartphone. It also enables you to install Android applications as well as sync pictures, videos, documents, music, and playlists. If you have an HTC [...]
Verizon has finally posted a landing page for the long-awaited Droid Incredible 2 from HTC, signifying that a launch and probable release are imminent. The page is not complete, however; right now the pricing stands at a whopping $99,999.99 on- or off-contract, and the flash imagery meant to illustrate the phone is not yet live (we added that picture ourselves to fill the white space). We’ve heard conflicting ship dates of April 21st and April 28th, although at least it seems like something will happen before the end of the month.
The Incredible 2 is a CDMA version of the [...]
The latest version of the HTC Sense interface for Android, version 3.0, brings some pretty significant changes and will debut on the EVO 3D and the Sensation. Chief among these changes are a new lock screen, new widgets, a new home screen configuration, and many little enhancements to the stock programs you use everyday. If you’re rocking a current generation phone like the Desire HD (Inspire 4G), EVO 4G, Thunderbolt, or even the brand new Incredible S, you’re probably wondering whether you’ll get an upgrade to Sense 3.0. First, a bit of history.
Most of the [...]
The first pics of an HTC Incredible S sporting Verizon branding as the Droid Incredible 2 popped up over the weekend, and now there’s some code to go along with the images we saw. A user on the Android Central forums has extracted the smartphone’s files and just posted a system dump to the site.
You’ll find a standard assortment of Verizon apps, including Skype, as part of the default installation. Probably the most interesting bits are the media included in the dump, like the phone’s bootup animation, wallpaper selection, and built-in ringtones. These [...]
The HTC Incredible S announced at this year’s MWC got a 3 out of 5 in our review but that doesn’t stop it from heading to Verizon as we previously saw in a leaked picture back in the middle of March.
The Verizon version will be called Incredible 2 — a real follow-up to the Droid Incredible — and it’s nothing more than your typical HTC Incredible S. Aside from the Verizon branding on the top, you still have the Intelligent buttons that rotate along with the phone, the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU supported by a plentiful 768MB of RAM, four-inch and WVGA [...]
US customers can check out HTC’s Incredible S, the sequel to last year’s Incredible, on T-Mobile, but you’ll have to track the phone down yourself and pay the full, unlocked price. The handset will apparently undergo a small transformation before it sees US carrier subsidies, flipping that S on its axis, and arriving at Verizon under the name Droid Incredible 2. There’s been plenty of evidence popping up in support of this arrangement, from pics of the Verizon-branded handset to a complete system dump. We still haven’t heard anything about when to expect [...]
A certain Droid Incredible 2 — with or without the “Droid” bit in it’s name — has surfaced on Verizon’s system alongside the HTC Merge at the end of February indicating that there will be a follow-up to the successful HTC Droid Incredible.
AndroidSPIN got some nice shots of a Verizon branded HTC Incredible S which will most likely be Verizon’s HTC Incredible 2. While the device itself is rather good in what it delivers, “has a terrific screen, exhibits great performance, takes awesome photos, and it’s loaded with the latest [...]
Verizon’s HTC Incredible 2 has been getting pretty leaky as of late, which is usually a good sign that a release is near (despite the fact that the phone is still unofficial at this point). The best indicator we have to a solid ship date is that purported roadmap which leaked late last month, and which pointed to April 28th for the initial rollout. The Incredible 2 is little more than a rebranded Incredible S, currently HTC’s flagship handset until next week, when we’re expecting a pair of dual-core phones in the Pyramid/Sensation and worldwide GSM version of the EVO [...]
Canadian network operator Bell has just added the HTC Incredible S Android smartphone to its line-up and you can get it for $99.95 on a three-year contract ($449.95 on a two-year, $474.95 on a one-year contract, and $499.95 without commitment).
The HTC Incredible S scored 3 out of 5 in our review and the smartphone sports a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor coupled with 768MB of RAM, a four-inch Super LCD display with WVGA 480 x 800 resolution, eight-megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus as well as the unique ability for the bottom row of lit capacitive buttons to [...]
It looks like Verizon is cleaning house in anticipation of upcoming smartphone releases, including the Incredible 2/S, by ceasing sales of the original HTC Incredible, just a few weeks shy of it being one year since the phone’s debut.
Over at Verizon’s website, you can see that the Incredible is no longer listed amongst smartphones currently available for sale. That situation may be different in Verizon retail stores, depending on current stock, but we imagine it’s soon to disappear from them as well.
Sure, technology improves, and new models will [...]
Displays have always been a smartphone’s key point as it is the hardware component that you interact with and look at most. Manufacturers are constantly on the search for the best displays that offer great color, contrast, brightness and battery life, whether it is LCD, S-LCD, AMOLED, S-AMOLED, S-AMOLED+, IPS, etc.
After earlier looking at various displays magnified, today we are presented with the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Incredible S, under high magnification, to inspect the LCD screen on the Desire HD and compare it to the Super LCD on the Incredible S. Check out the [...]
Falling in line behind HTC’s G2 and Thunderbolt 4G, it has been revealed that the Incredible S features a signed bootloader as well. The device joins a growing list of higher security devices designed to prevent hackers from deploying un-approved code.
HTC as well as nearly every other device manufacturer lock their device in some way to prevent deployment of un-approved software to their devices (custom ROMs, kernels, recovery, etc.) In the past, gaining root access to the device was enough to deploy these custom images. With it’s recent device releases, Motorola [...]
For those of you with an HTC Incredible S, myTouch 3G Slide, or Wildfire, today is a good day for you! HTC has released the kernel source code for these devices as opensource.
With the code to the kernel and drivers developers and tinkerers can start building custom ROMs which can make the smartphones go faster, batteries last longer, and who knows what other sorts of cool stuff!
But if you’re the kind of person that would never run a custom ROM on your phone, it’s good news for you, too! The more sets of eyes looking at the source code, the more likely it is [...]
At Mobile World Congress, HTC unveiled three new phones that act as successors to the HTC Desire, Incredible, and Wildfire. The most interesting of the pack was the Incredible S, because it had a large 4″ Super LCD display, buttons that rotate along with the phone, and similar specs to the high-end Desire HD. In this review of the unlocked version of the Incredible S, which happens to work on T-Mobile, we tell you whether the Incredible S is a worthy successor to the original.
Inside the box we have just the charger and some headphones. The Incredible [...]
After taking a closer look at the hardware of the Incredible S, we spend some time poking around at the software. The Incredible S, despite having nearly identical specs when compared to the Inspire 4G, manages to score lower in Quadrant in most cases (update: after an additional run, shown in the image above, it scored a similar score to the Inspire 4G). And this lower score is reflected in day-to-day performance: while the Incredible S is generally quite responsive, there are times when it feels a bit laggy when compared to the Inspire 4G.
In terms of internet data [...]
