It's been over a year and a half since HTC first launched the Droid Incredible 2 on Verizon. The phone was quick to get Gingerbread, seeing those updates arrive last summer, but the big question on the minds of owners as of late has been what's going to happen regarding the phone's long-anticipated Ice Cream Sandwich update. After all, Verizon's been saying that the DI2 would be getting ICS since as far back as March, and the phone popped-up on HTC's official list of ICS updates shortly thereafter, where the manufacturer said it would finalize the handset's upgrade plans by the end of ...

HTC's been talking about which of its Androids would be seeing updates to Ice Cream Sandwich for some time now, so we've generally had a good idea for what to expect. We've already seen the company start delivering those updates to some of its lineup, leaving the question of just when it would get around to hitting the rest of them. To help with answers, the manufacturer has put together a convenient table, detailing just when it expects to make ICS available for those remaining devices. It looks like the majority of phones that haven't yet started getting ICS will do so next month. That ...

Possible future owners of the Droid Incredible 2 might have noticed that, on April 19, the phone was wearing an "out of stock" label over at Verizon, a sign that the Incredible 4G might be landing soon. On the same note, the Incredible 2 has now been completely removed from the online store with no way to purchase it (still there are support and device sections available). April 26 is the day to watch for the Incredible 4G tipped to land with a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor coupled to an Adreno 225 GPU and 1GB of RAM, but "only" a qHD display. Source: Droid-life

Back in early March, we looked at a couple of rumors concerning upcoming Verizon smartphones. One attempted to assign a release date to the Galaxy Nexus, a date we've since learned was incorrect, while the other looked to HTC's Droid Incredible 4G. If that half of the rumor is right, we should be hearing from Verizon regarding the phone's launch quite soon. Considering the Nexus news fizzled, we're not sure just what the chances of that happening might be, but there now seems to be a little evidence that the carrier's getting ready for the DI4G, at least according to its website. Go on ...

So far, news about which Android handsets will be making the journey to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and which will be left behind to stagnate has largely been coming from the manufacturers themselves. Some, like Motorola, have detailed support pages up outlining which models should be seeing updates, and when. Other are content to release snippets of their progress on the likes of Twitter and Facebook. Today, though, that news is coming from a carrier, with Verizon publishing a list of devices on its network that are slated to receive Ice Cream Sandwich. Verizon calls this a list of its ...

A little earlier this month, HTC updated us all on its plans for bringing its stable of Androids up to Ice Cream Sandwich, committing to the first updates arriving for Sensation-series models sometime during March. Today the company had even more Android 4.0 news to share, especially concerning its phones available on Verizon. We already knew that HTC was planning to bring Ice Cream Sandwich to the Rezound on Verizon, but considering that handset's current hardware specs, that's hardly surprising. Today the manufacturer adds to that list of Verizon phones that are confirmed for ICS with ...

"All HTC Android devices launched after September 2011 are unlockable", said HTC in an official statement, adding all the phones in the above-mentioned category to the list on HTCdev.com. Thankfully, HTC's changes to the site also include the addition of two phones released prior to September 2011: the HTC Thunderbolt and the Incredible 2. If the hacks and tweaks you wanted to apply were stopped by the locked bootloader, you can now unlock your phones, given you understand that this voids your warranty. As far as Verizon is concerned, HTC either found a way around the carrier's policy ...

HTC's Droid Incredible 2 on Verizon saw a relatively minor update arrive back in September, offering several performance tweaks and stability improvements. It looks like another such low-key update is going to be on its way shortly, as the documentation in support of its release has recently been posted to Verizon's support page for the smartphone. Incredible 2 system software 5.10.605.9 features a mix of security updates and general bugfixes. The security bits include certificate revocation for some of the recent incidents with compromised CAs, as well as fixing a vulnerability tied to ...

As part of Verizon's Black Friday sales, it introduced a new variation on HTC's Droid Incredible 2, now available in red. The phone was offered free-on-contract as part of those holiday savings. If you were hoping to pick up one of these models in a Verizon store, it looks like you've missed your chance, as a leaked memo indicates all locations are being asked to return their existing stocks. Any and all red Incredible 2s must be overnighted back to Verizon's warehouses, where it appears they'll act as stock going towards fulfilling Direct Shipment orders. The memo doesn't out and say it, ...

If you like what you see in the image above -- the Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 2 in red -- prepare your wallet (not really) for this Black Friday as it appears that these red-colored phones are hitting Verizon storage rooms. The phone will go for free on Friday (hence the wallet "not really") and if you like the red-hot-chili look -- or someone you'd like to gift this to -- it will be available on Verizon. Aside from the spicy look, it still packs the 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 768MB of RAM, 1.9GB of ROM and a four-inch Super LCD display with WVGA 480 x 800 resolution. Source: ...

After HTC's Droid Incredible 2 on Verizon received an upgrade to Gingerbread this past summer, we've seen the phone receive additional updates, but of a much smaller scale. We're not quite back up to the grandeur of the phone's Android 2.3 update, but a new update is now on its way out to the handset, bringing with it Android 2.3.4, along with some stability and performance improvements. Droid Incredible 2 system software 4.08.605.3 includes a few fixes focused on addressing issues that could come up while the smartphone is roaming. Message handling has been improved, for more reliable ...

Last week we told you that Best Buy will exclusively offer a white/silver version of the HTC-made Verizon Droid Incredible 2, as it was featured on the cover to the September 2011 edition of Best Buy's phone Buyer's Guide. The phone is now available from the retailer. You don't have to pay a penny more for the white version as the pale Droid Incredible 2 goes for $149.99. You'll have to sign a two-year contract with Verizon but you'll get a phone that sports a single-core 1GHz processor and 768MB RAM. Unfortunately it is running Android 2.2 Froyo out-of-the-box but a Gingerbread update ...

A few weeks back we got a peek at a new revision of the HTC Droid Incredible 2, swapping out its black facade for a new, silvery one. At the time, all we had was the picture of the phone to go on. Now it's finally showing up in promotional materials, right on the cover to the September 2011 edition of Best Buy's phone Buyer's Guide. Best Buy will be the exclusive retail source for the new Incredible 2, which is referred to here as white. There's definitely a metallic look to the pics we saw earlier (which appear to be the same as those used in the Guide, with the introduction of the ...

It looks like Verizon will be offering the HTC Droid Incredible 2 in a new silver color to accompany the original black version -- although like many lightly-colored phones these days, the face will remain dark. Although the Incredible 2/S was never one of our favorite HTC designs, the two-tone appearance works well here, in our opinion. It's expected that the silver DI2 will maintain the same features and specs of its predecessor. First revealed at Mobile World Congress in February, the Incredible 2 (sold globally as the Incredible S) brings an upper mid-range feature set consisting of a ...

The source code for several HTC devices (based on the 2.6.35 Linux Kernel) was just released. The Salsa, Chacha (and Chachacha), Evo 4G, Evo 3D, Droid Incredible 2, and the Sensation 4G all now have their kernel's source code available to the hobbyist community. The kernel is "the central component of most computer operating systems; it is a bridge between applications and the actual data processing done at the hardware level. The kernel's responsibilities include managing the system's resources (the communication between hardware and software components). Usually as a basic component of ...

Sometimes, a smartphone update is simply a revelation, bringing with it new features and new ways of using your mobile device. Look at Mango, for instance, and the potential it has to reboot WP7. Of course, they can't all be so grand, but even the smallest update shows us that the smartphone's manufacturer is still watching out for you, keeping your phone's software as current as possible. With that mindset front-and-center, check out the latest OTA for HTC's Droid Incredible 2, increasing network stability in a couple unique cases. Specifically, Incredible 2 update 3.02.605.1 spruces up ...

Verizon published some support documents last week in anticipation of an upcoming software release for the HTC Droid Incredible 2, upgrading the smartphone to Gingerbread. Though the carrier had all the pieces in place, it had managed to avoid revealing just when the code would finally go live, and users would start receiving notifications that the update was ready for download and installation. Luckily for Incredible 2 owners, it's only been a short wait, as just a few days later, Verizon has begun distribution. System software 2.18.605.4 is a decent-sized 116MB download, including a host ...

When Verizon announced HTC's Droid Incredible 2 at the end of April, it confirmed that the smartphone would ship with Android 2.2 Froyo. Sure, that wasn't great news, but we expected a Gingerbread update to be waiting for the smartphone just around the corner. That must have been a heck of a big corner, as we're still waiting for the update to arrive, but at least now there are signs that it could very well be imminent, with Verizon hosting the update documentation on its site, in advance of the code's release. The update, when it finally arrives, will bring the Incredible 2 up to system ...

HTC's Droid Incredible 2 joins the ranks of fully modifiable Android devices today, receiving the trifecta of unlocks for HTC devices with S-OFF (security off), permanent root access, and CWM (ClockWorkMod) recovery. The hack is brought to us by the Netherlands-based team "AlphaRev" who have released similar hacks for other HTC devices in the past. These modifications enable the development of custom ROMs such as the popular CyanogenMod 7. S-ON (also known as @secuflag) is a security measure implemented by HTC that blocks the ability to write to the smartphone's flash memory, preventing ...

We all love source codes manufacturers publish because the community can take a look inside, report bugs for future version improvements, get inspiration and bits, extract stuff to make it available and all the good things a source can bring. HTC has released the sources for the Droid Incredible 2, Wildfire S and Desire HD. The Verizon Droid Incredible 2 is basically the HTC Incredible S -- which saw its own source made public already. The HTC Wildfire S is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC Sense 2.1 and the Desire HD already had its own source being published but this time it's the ...

The CDMA Verizon-destined version of the HTC Incredible S has just become official. The Droid Incredible 2 will be offered at the $199.99 price point starting on April 28. The device features a 4" Super LCD WVGA display powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU with 768MB of RAM. The rear camera takes 720p HD video and can take stills at 8MP. It'll ship with Android 2.2, but an upgrade to Android 2.3 shouldn't be too far off. It'll also ship with a front-facing camera, but don't expect to get good results video chatting because the Droid Incredible 2 isn't a 4G LTE device. Source: Verizon

Verizon's confirmed that Samsung's Droid Charge will be arriving this Thursday, April 28, and though we haven't gotten any official statement that the HTC Droid Incredible 2 will be joining it, all indications from leaked documents suggest that it, too, will be going up for sale. Just days away from their anticipated releases, both phones are making an appearance in Best Buy's Mobile Phone Buyer's Guide for May. Verizon has finally posted a landing page for the long-awaited Droid Incredible 2 from HTC, signifying that a launch and probable release are imminent. The page is not complete, however; right now the pricing stands at a whopping $99,999.99 on- or off-contract, and the flash imagery meant to illustrate the phone is not yet live (we added that picture ourselves to fill the white space). We've heard conflicting ship dates of April 21st and April 28th, although at least it seems like something will happen before the end of the month.
