Sony is expected to unveil the next flagship, codenamed Honami, at its pre-IFA event on September 4. Some rumors have gone as far as to predict there will also be a Honami Mini, but, for what it's worth, we're talking about the bigger brother now. While we've seen plenty of alleged pictures of the phone to have a good general idea of what to expect, a couple have popped up on TENAA, China's Telecommunications Equipment Certification Center. As you can see in the images above and below, there's nothing really new and groundbreaking here, but Sony keeps teasing: "Think you know what a ...

We had a first glimpse at the alleged front panel of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note III and the internet is taking this a step further, with measurements, as well as comparisons to the current model. Let's start off with the measurements: those who claim access to the physical component state that, after measurements, the screen will be a 5.68-inch display, with 2.2mm bezels (the actual display is 1.8mm thick). How does that compare to the display of the Galaxy Note II? Check out the image below! As you can see, it is a tad taller and has more squared off corners. The bezel is definitely ...

LG's G Pad 8.3 tablet has been just on the cusp of going official for days now. We've been expecting to see it at the IFA next week, but the way LG's taken to teasing the product's launch on YouTube, it may have well have already launched. Apparently LG's quite aware of such reactions to that video, because it's immediately following it up with a short announcement, going public with its plans for the tablet. To be fair, though, we're not sure that even this should count as a straight-up "launch." We saw the same sort of pre-launch waffling with the G2, and that comes through again in this ...

What we have above, and below, is allegedly the front panel of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note III. If this turns out to be the real deal, we're looking at more squared off corners, but, aside from that, we're still seeing the good old Samsung design, with the home button on the center of the bottom part. We're guessing capacitive buttons are a go, to its left and right, and the top features the webcam as well as places for the sensors. The report claims dimensions similar to the Note II, but with a larger screen (hence, smaller bezels). On a different, but still related note, Lee ...

There has been no shortage of Samsung Galaxy Note III rumors, the phablet expected to be launched at the September 4, pre-IFA, special event in Berlin. Most recently we've heard that this year's giant phone will not have an optical stabilized camera, but today's rumors are looking at the same imaging component. Citing unnamed sources, the Korea Economic Daily claims that the Galaxy Note III will have a 4K camera, delivering Ultra High Definition video. The spec might look good on paper, but you will definitely not take advantage of such video on a Full HD resolution screen. Maybe Samsung ...

The date is set, the specs are all but confirmed, and we even heard chatter about color variants. The Samsung Galaxy Note III should see the light of day at the September 4, pre-IFA 2013 special event, in Berlin. According to recent reports from South Korea, the first four million units to be shipped will be equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 processor, instead Samsung's own, octa-core (dual-quad-core) Exynos 5 CPU. Furthermore, from a total volume of 100%, the report claims that up to 70% of the units could be equipped with the Snapdragon 800 SoC, and only the rest will have the ...

Sony's IFA 2013 press event is less than two weeks away; on September 4, we're going to get the official story on the company's latest devices, and unless the rumor mill has seriously misled us, that's likely to include both the unusual "lens camera" accessories that recently leaked, as well as the long-anticipated Honami. Whether the latter arrives as the Xperia i1 or the Z1 – or something else entirely – it aims to really push boundaries so far as what kind of camera performance we can expect from Xperia handsets. As we wait for the phone to go official, Sony's posted a little teaser ...

The arrival of August has really seen rumors heat up concerning Samsung's anticipated smartwatch, tipped to arrive as the Galaxy Gear. Amidst a growing body of evidence for the watch's existence, rumors have been quite adamantly claiming that the smartwatch will join the Galaxy Note III on stage at Samsung's September 4 IFA event. As we wait to learn if there's any truth to those claims, some new rumors start getting into the specifics of the watch's hardware, and paint a pretty impressive-looking picture. Probably the biggest news here is the SoC, with the Galaxy Gear supposedly running ...

If you thought the Palm commercials of 2009 were as weird as mobile tech advertising would ever get, HTC and Robert Downey Jr. have something to show you. That's the conversation that kicks off this week's edition of the Pocketnow Weekly podcast, and it's followed by some heartening news about this year's IFA in Berlin. If the rumors hold true, we should be in for some powerfully geeky, if unconventional, tech in Germany this year - and even if they don't, we've got plenty to talk about in the way of chipsets, Nexii, smartwatches, and phablets. If none of those terms make sense to you, ...

It's been a while since LG threw a slate on the market and even those weren't among the most successful ones. Apparently, the South Korean company is preparing a new tablet, the LG G Pad, to be unveiled in September at IFA 2013 in Berlin, according to reports. Those who claim to have knowledge of details concerning the LG G Pad talk about an 8.3-inch screen with 1920x1200 resolution, a quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. Additional rumors talk about a very thin form factor with minimal bezels and an aluminum back for reduced weight. It will allegedly be very pocketable despite the rather ...

Just a few weeks left until Sony will most probably unveil the device which we've seen leaked all over the internet lately, referred to as the Honami. Despite all the images that were posted and captured by Mr. Blurrycam, we haven't seen color options of the upcoming device. That is, until today; we're most probably looking at a white Sony Honami C690X. There are different angles to inspect and the phone is even pictured side-by-side with an iPhone, to get a sense of its dimensions. The 20.7MP camera seems to be a go and the battery is expected to be one of 3,000mAh. Let the pictures above ...

Samsung sure seems to be working on a smartwatch. There have been patent filings outlying just such a device, an in-development Samsung smartwatch has appeared in international import/export databases, and a trademark's been filed for the name Galaxy Gear. Considering all that, the question's been less about whether or not a smartwatch was coming at all, and more about just when Samsung might hope to launch it. We've already talked about the idea that the Galaxy Gear might be on the agenda for Samsung's September 4 IFA event (same day as Sony's), and today a new report asserts that our ...

This year's IFA in Berlin is just a few weeks away, and like any other year, we're expecting to see a whole lot of smartphones unveiled All the big names will be holding press conferences of their own, and we've already begun to get invitations to some – earlier this month, for instance, we learned of Samsung's plans to have an event on September 4. Today we get confirmation of another OEM with similar plans, seeing Sony's invite to its own IFA event. This date is hardly a shock, as we saw a leaked teaser late last week mention the same date, but official confirmation is always nice to ...

The LG Optimus Vu sure was a strange Android when it launched last year, eschewing the typical widescreen aspect ratio we expect from smartphone displays to go with a more iPad-like 4:3 screen, instead. That was quickly followed up by the Optimus Vu II, and now we're expecting to see LG continue the line with a third model, dropping the Optimus moniker as with the G2. Today rumors attempt to let us know what to expect from this Vu III, as well as give us a sense of when we might see the phone launched. While both the first and second Vus had 1024 x 768 displays, the Vu III might finally ...

September 4 is the date when Samsung will be unveiling this year's Galaxy Note phablet, the Galaxy Note III. Android 4.3 is rumored to be on-board (as we've previously heard) and, while the information comes from a recent report, we'd be surprised if the Note III would ship with any other earlier version. On a related, this time, spec-note, the phablet is rumored to sport a 3,450mAh battery. The information is not confirmed but if accurate, the Note III will have a more than 10% larger battery rating than the Note II, at 3,100mAh. Whether the capacity-bump is needed for the extra specs ...

Smartphones claiming to be the world's thinnest keep popping up one after the other, each time shaving off barely noticeable fractions of a millimeter as they push further and further towards becoming essentially two-dimensional. Chasing such targets can often be a losing proposition for phones, trading important specs like battery life in order to slim down even more. That said, we can't help but feel a little bit of awe each time a thinner and thinner phone turns up. Today we hear some more about the most recent model to have its eyes on the crown, the 5.6-millimeter thick Umeox X5. When ...

For those of you who have a hard time deciding between the HTC One or the HTC One mini, things clearly won't end there as HTC has been reportedly working on a phablet that many are already dubbing as the HTC One Max. Still, it was hard to confirm if this device, codenamed T9 would retain the famous design of the HTC One, but the speculation should end today. A new leaked photo has surfaced, and apparently the company's new phablet will include a 5.9-inch display. Among the other enhancements reported, the specs include a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor and a 3,200mAh battery. The display ...

As with LG's G2, the Samsung Galaxy Note III does a lousy job at hiding from the headlines (and from the camera). Of course, as we said with the occasion of the previous leak, these images might be the real deal, or they might have nothing in common with what we'll see at IFA; Samsung is known to conceal its products pretty well. On that note, the device above is claimed to be the Galaxy Note II follow-up. Furthermore, a recent Samsung Galaxy S III note leak report claims to have knowledge from Samsung insiders that the device will have a 5.7-inch screen, opposed to previous rumors of 5.99 ...

Summer is now in full swing, and as the hot, lazy days fly by, we're getting closer and closer to the next big trade show where we hope to see the latest and greatest in smartphones and tablets. The IFA in Berlin gets started in early September, and companies in the industry are already getting their ducks in a row. Nearly two full months in advance, Sony has already started distributing invitations to its own IFA event. Sony's IFA press conference will take place on Wednesday, September 4. There's no obvious hint at what to expect, like we've been seeing from Nokia and LG recently, but ...

This might sound as a "me too" thing for many out there but in fact it's just natural evolution of smartphones. We've heard yesterday that the LG G2 might be the first smartphone to pack 3GB of RAM, for improved multi-tasking and performance, and we're now hearing it might be soon followed by another flagship. The Samsung Galaxy Note III, expected to be unveiled at this IFA 2013 in Berlin (or around August/September), is also rumored to pack 3GB of RAM. The Korea Economic Daily seems to have the aforementioned information on good authority. Other rumored specs for the upcoming Note phablet ...

In case you need more rumors to kick your week off, here's an alleged Samsung Galaxy Note III launch date tip: September 4. On one hand, this date seems to fall nicely in place with IFA 2013, and IFA is the place where Samsung usually unveils the Note phablet. On the other hand, we here at Pocketnow, speculated about the fact that, since the Galaxy S, and S II were MWC phones, and the S III got its own event, Samsung might do the same with the Note. The original Note and Note II were IFA phablets, the Note III might get a separate event. However, today's report seems to have it on good ...

Rumors about Samsung's alleged sequel to the Galaxy Note II (above) have yet to converge upon a unified description of the phablet's hardware. We've heard a number of ideas put forth for what SoC that Note III might run, as well as for just how large a display Samsung might be thinking about. Numbers like 6.3 inches and 5.9 inches have been mentioned, in line with the company's new Mega-series models, but the latest Note III rumor to arrive suggests that any size gains could be much more modest. At least, that's the impression that tipster @evleaks has, who posted to Twitter that he's ...

We've been looking at signs for months now that LG's follow-up to the Optimus G could arrive running a Snapdragon 800 SoC. Then, when the company announced this week that the G2 would indeed feature one of these new Qualcomm chips, we saw those leaks validated. While LG has started to share information about this handset, it still hasn't formally launched it, nor given us a firm expectation of when to expect it. We've been operating on the assumption that this year's IFA in Berlin might be the right venue, but now news of an early August New York LG event has us wondering if the G2 might ...
