5 million HTC One devices sold to date, in a month, according to reports, which is a decent number considering all of the difficulties in production and distribution (and the phone is still not available in every region where it should be). That's half of the number of Galaxy S 4 units Samsung managed to sell through its global channels, but the South Korean company did a better job at both producing volumes and making it available worldwide. This information, unlike Samsung's, is not coming via a press release, but The Wall Street Journal is quoting an executive -- probably still working ...

We've recently heard rumors of HTC switching to numbers for its phone models and nothing could come as a direct confirmation but an official device unveiling today, as HTC announces Desire 600. The Taiwanese phone-maker has officially put the HTC Desire 600 in the spotlight for Russia, Ukraine, and the EMEA region. This might be a mid-ranger but it is a potent one. It features a 4.5-inch qHD display and it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 quad-core processor, clocked at 1.2GHz. In addition, there's 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot, finally), ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about LG's new Optimus GJ and what's different from the previous Optimus G, if there really is any difference. Then we talk about Microsoft and how it had to water-down its YouTube app for Windows Phone 8 due to a petition from Google. Speaking of Google, their new Google Drive is next as it got significantly revamped in mobile. The Nokia EOS project is next as we go through a possible launch date. We end today's show talking about how the news show an HTC quietly sinking due to some major departures in their staff. All this and more after the ...

When Henry Ford was asked almost a century ago why he focused so intensely on making automobiles a mainstream in complete contradiction to what the experts thought at the time, his response was simple - "If I would've asked people what they wanted, they would've asked for a faster horse". When Steve Jobs almost had a heart attack because Steve Wozniak had to honor a contractual requirement to show HP any of his inventions before being able to do anything on his own, HP responded with a blunt - "Steve, what are normal people going to do with a computer?” When Bill Gates decided to change ...

HTC's 2013 Androids have thus far been generally higher-end devices. Sure, the First is no One, but specs like that 4.3-inch 720p screen make it clear that this is no bargain-basement model. We all knew that trend couldn't last forever, and sure enough, we're now getting a look at some lesser Androids to help fill out HTC's handset lineup, upon the discovery of evidence pointing to both the Desire 200 and Desire 600. The first thing you should notice is the naming: gone are the days of the Desire C and Desire V, replaced with a system reminiscent of Nokia, or even Qualcomm and its SoC ...

The captain is the last one to abandon a sinking ship. HTC's Peter Chou promised that he'd resign as the CEO of the company if the HTC One isn't going to bring the Taiwanese manufacturer above the floating line. However, until then, some important crew members have either left, leaving, or urging fellow HTC-ers to leave. Is HTC sinking? Jason Gordon, HTC's vice president of global communications, tweeted that his last day at the job was this Friday. Chief Product Officer, Kouji Kodera, left the company last week, alongside global retail marketing manager Rebecca Rowland, director of ...

Shortly after we learned of the special Google edition of the Galaxy S 4 running stock Android, we started hearing rumors about the HTC One getting the same sort of treatment. It wasn't long before HTC took the air out of those claims, announcing that it was "not currently planning a 'Nexus Edition' of the HTC One." In spite of this, the rumors refuse to fully dissipate, and yet another round has sprung up, looking to an end-of-summer release window. The info comes from developer/occasional tipster LlabTooFeR, who has been posting about a "Senseless HTC One" on Twitter. He claims his ...

HTC seems like they want to be "number one" -- at least they want people to associate them with that level of prestige. Why else would they name their devices "One" and "First" when everyone else is rapidly iterating their model numbers? Recently the hardware maker teamed up with a social networking service to do something bold and creative: they released a smartphone that was "Facebook centric". When you turned on your phone you got Facebook first. Finally, the much rumored "Facebook phone" had arrived -- but they were bold enough not to call it that. And now, just a few months later, ...

The HTC One may be one of the fastest clocked smartphones on the market. It's powered by a 1.7Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 600 chipset that puts last year's chips to shame. But for some, fast simply isn't enough. Some need more power, more speed, more gigahertz. Some need an overclocked HTC One. Fortunately, that's not out of the question, and enabling it is quite simple. All you need is the right kernel, a little know-how and a custom recovery. Flash away and reap the benefits of a processor clock speed faster than the factory settings will allow. Beware, though. Turn up the dial too much ...

Samsung Galaxy S 4 vs HTC One vs Apple iPhone 5 vs Nokia 808 PureView; that's the comparison we've been waiting to do ever since this year's flagship Android models came out. That also happens to be the camera comparison most requested by you. So, here it is! We've reviewed all of these phones and, at that time, we compared them against other competitors; this time it's them playing against each-other. While we know that the Apple iPhone 5 is the oldest amongst the best-sellers -- with a refresh due soon -- and the Nokia 808 PureView is more than a year old now, but still regarded by many ...

We later talk about the HTC One and how the company plans to increase production to meet demand. We end today's show talking about Apple and the possible delay of the iRadio music streaming service. From a manufacturing standpoint, the HTC One has been off to a pretty bumpy start. First we heard of issues with the UltraPixel camera that were affecting the company's ability to produce enough units, and then there was that whole mess with Nokia and the HAAC microphones HTC wasn't supposed to have been putting in the One. HTC isn't letting a few issues like these drag the One down, and reports instead that production levels keep ramping on up, ready to meet consumer demand. Compared to April, HTC is equipped to manufacture twice as many One handsets this month. It intends to push itself ...

It's been a pretty crazy week of news since Nokia unveiled its new Lumia 925 on Tuesday, and before we break for the weekend I'd like to briefly return to that Lumia 920-refresh to give some overdue kudos - and maybe stir up a bit of discussion. I love our community, fellow geeks, but it needs to be said: we can be a fickle bunch of puling, pompous jerks. And these past few months have borne that out, with fanboys of the Android persuasion more riled up than ever before. All across the internet, formerly complacent Samsung fans have risen up to counter the assault of suddenly emboldened ...

The Sprint version of the HTC One is actually the one that we have reviewed. Ever since, some carrier versions as well as the global variant have received a refresh improving several aspects of the device, including its performance and camera. HTC One users on Sprint should be getting a small over-the-air update, bumping the version number all the way to 1.29.651.10. According to the changelog, the refresh should bring "Improved Back and Home key sensitivity", alongside "BlinkFeed improvements" as well as a new version of the Sprint Zone app. You can check for the update's availability ...
