It's really tough to get me excited about a new smartwatch from Samsung. That's not necessarily because of the company's earlier efforts, : I stood up for the original Galaxy Gear and enjoyed it much more than did most of my fellow tech reviewers, and I even bought and used a Gear Fit for a short time, preferring its futuristic and lightweight build to the clunky first-gen Pebble I'd adopted a year before. Rather, my antipathy to new Samsung smartwatches stems from the fact that the company's first effort landed exactly one year ago, and we're already on iteration five. That's a ...

It's been a little while now since we heard anything new about the rumored Gear Solo, said to be Samsung's effort to deliver a smartwatch that features its own cellular radio (like that Timex model we just looked at), freeing its operation from the requirement of having a nearby smartphone. The evidence we were seeing back in May looked pretty solid, with the wearable clearly showing up in an import database as the Gear 2 Solo, but there hasn't been much in the way of new developments since. Was this wearable still happening? When might it debut? The latest word out of South Korea suggests ...

Samsung is clearly interested in wearables in a big way, as evidenced by how its selection has positively exploded since the debut of the first Galaxy Gear not even nine months ago. But right around the time the Gear 2 models were getting ready to go up for sale we started hearing about another Samsung smartwatch, and this time one that would differ from previous models in one big way: it would have its own cellular data connection, freeing it from the need to be tethered to a smartphone. We've been tracking rumors of this so-called Gear Solo ever since, and have seen compelling evidence ...

Samsung has been making some pretty major strides in wearables this year, using the first Galaxy Gear as a jumping-off point for a lineup that's now a lot sleeker, offers much more in the way of options, and even plays around with form factors. When it comes to thinking about what might be next for Samsung's wearable family, one idea we've heard more than a few times has been that of a SIM-enabled smartwatch, pulling down its own data from cellular towers without the need for a tethered smartphone. Today we see our first real evidence for this model's existence as the Gear 2 Solo pops up ...

We've been spending a fair share of time lately talking about wearables, and given their increased presence on the mobile scene this year, that's hardly surprising. Most recently, we've been looking at Samsung's Gear Fit, just one of the many new additions to the company's selection of smartwatches and fitness trackers. Now we're checking out invites to an upcoming Samsung event that aims to start a “conversation around health,” making us wonder what if any news about the company's wearables might come out of it. While we haven't really been anticipating any big hardware launch, there ...

Samsung has done some very interesting efforts to push the smartwatch ecosystem forward. The Galaxy Gear hasn't been the best smartwatch in the world, but Samsung did a very decent job in giving us a product that could allow you to use more of your smartphone features on your wrist, without needing to pull your phone out of your pocket. Some of these features even included allowing you to make phone calls through the device's speaker, and it seems Samsung wants to go even further with this concept. We have some new reports that show Samsung working on a device called the Samsung Gear Solo, ...
