Sometimes, we can get some info on upcoming smartphones by means of their cases. For the iPhone, in particular, we'll often see images of a number of cases arrive in advance, as manufacturers rush to have inventory ready for the handset's launch. Occasionally this means getting some insider information from Apple's manufacturing partners, so it can sometimes be a good source of news on the phone's ultimate design. With the Galaxy S IV, however, we're not quite sure what to make of all the case designs dreamed up for it, as a number of them seem to contradict each other. There are quite a ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about how the red HTC One mysteriously vanished from the HTC website. Then we go through some of the amazing benchmarks of the HTC One, though we'd wait for some real-world tests before we declare them as faster than anything out there. Samsung is next as new rumors have the company adopting the Snapdragon 600 for the Galaxy S IV. Then LG takes the stage as we have their new MWC teaser along with an Optimus F7 and F5 being rumored. We end today's show talking about the Asus MWC teaser, and what they could mean with their "Metallic Miracle". All this ...

The choice of SoC for Samsung's Galaxy S IV has been the subject of much contention lately. While many Samsung fans would like to see a next-generation Exynos chip powering the smartphone, we've been growing increasingly skeptical that such a thing could really come to pass. After all, a number of separate benchmark results for devices that appear to be some of the regional and carrier variants of the Galaxy S IV have been reporting GPUs that just don't match with what we're expecting from any Exynos chips, let alone the Exynos 5 Octa. A new rumor suggests that there's a good reason for ...

It's judgement day for HTC. Since the end of 2012, rumors of the Taiwanese manufacturer's newest flagship have snowballed. Peter Chou was even filmed on stage leading HTC in a chant at a company party, "HTC! HTC! HTC! M7! M7! M7! HTC One!" And virtually every inch of what is assumed to be HTC One has been inspected by way of hardware leaks, renders, software screen shots and even camera samples. It's safe to say Chou and Co. weren't terribly worried about the surprise factor this time around. Earlier this morning, HTC President Jason Mackenzie took the stage at a one-off press event in New ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about the Galaxy Note 8.0 one more time, hoping this is actually the last because so many rumors without a device tend to bore. Then we move to the Galaxy S IV, which now has a new and earlier release date rumor. LG is next as we talk about their new Optimus G Pro and the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor included. Nokia is next as apparently MWC 2013 will show us four smartphones to be released, and no tablet. We end today's show talking about the Ubuntu Tablet that'll be released tomorrow. All this and more after the break. Stories: - Galaxy ...

Rumors have time and time again looked to March for when Samsung could announce the Galaxy S IV, bypassing the crowds of the Mobile World Congress and insuring that it has our full attention when it premieres its next flagship. So far, we've heard a handful of potential dates for the GS4 launch event, first looking at March 22, and now more recently, March 15. The latest rumor to arrive suggests that Samsung might be pushing things up just a tad bit more, with an event taking place in New York City on Thursday, March 14. This news comes from Eldar Murtazin, who after initially tweeting a ...

Some alleged benchmarks and test images uploaded to Picasa popped up yesterday trying to depict one aspect or the other of the Samsung Galaxy S IV and it now appears that more reports are weighing in, not only on the future possible specs, but also on launch and availability dates. According to the image above the 2013 Samsung flagship will purportedly feature a five-inch Full HD display (we previously heard of 4.99-inches, but it's all the same), Samsung's own Exynos 5440 SoC, 2GB of RAM, and Android 4.2 on-board. It is expected to be revealed next month, in March, or at least that's ...

We've recently seen both some benchmark results attributed to Samsung's Galaxy S IV, as well as a couple images apparently snapped by the phone's camera, and tonight we have a little more of both to share with you. First up, we've got some NenaMark figures for what appears to be the Verizon version of the Galaxy S IV, model SCH-I545. Once again, like those last benchmarks we saw, this one's raising some concerning questions about the phone's chipset. The Adreno 320 GPU mentioned here, the same as with the SHV-E300S from earlier, implies a Snapdragon SoC rather than an Exynos 5. Could only ...

A couple days back, we told you about some new rumors that suggested the Galaxy S IV we're so excited about could arrive alongside some other models, all part of Samsung's larger "Project J." One of those was claimed to be the Project J Mini, and with the GS4 purported to be Project J's namesake device, it sounded a whole lot like this could be the Galaxy S IV Mini. Now some new rumors give us a little clearer picture of when that phone might actually make its retail debut. This rumor claims that Samsung has set a deadline for when Project J Mini's various cover accessories must be ready ...

As shouldn't be too surprising, as we start to close-in on when Samsung's expected to finally announce the Galaxy S IV, and subsequently make the smartphone available for retail sales, the previous months and months of all-over-the-place rumors will start crystallizing into something a little more solid. We don't expect all the mystery to go away, but some new rumors attempt to knock down at least a couple of the ideas we've heard along the way. Back in late December, we heard that Samsung might be planning to make the S Pen stylus from its Note series a more prominent feature of its ...

Rarely has the "lull" between trade shows given us so much to talk about. We kicked off the week with an exciting announcement welcoming two new members to the Pocketnow team, and since then we've barely been able to keep news, editorials, and videos on the front page long enough to read them. This feed is on fire. From ever-strengthening rumors about the HTC M7 and Samsung Galaxy S IV, to interviews with newcomers like Jolla, to new looks at old friends with BlackBerry 10, to modding and jailbreaking today's top smartphones, we've gotten a lot done since the last episode of the Weekly, ...

Then we talk about Nokia's recent leak of a probable tablet coming soon. We end today's show with a minor load of confusion, as now we can't figure out what the final design of the HTC M7 will be. We've already seen some benchmark results that just might be from Samsung's anticipated Galaxy S IV, but as we start to get closer to when we expect the company to announce this next flagship, it only makes sense that some newer figures could emerge. That's what we might have to share with you today, but we have a few reservations about just what we're looking at here. GLBenchmark has some new results for Samsung's model SHV-E300S, a number we've seen tied to the South Korean version of the Galaxy S IV. While the results themselves are pretty decent, showing a small performance bump over ...

We've been hearing rumors about Samsung's Galaxy S IV for some time now, and back in December those rumors suggested that the handset was being referred to internally as Project J. Since then, we got a new codename for the GS4 - Altius – but today that Project J name makes a return, with rumors claiming that it consists not just of the Galaxy S IV, but of other Galaxy models and accessories. Supposedly, Samsung's also developing a Project J Mini – presumably a Galaxy S IV Mini – with codename Serrano. Details on its hardware are still lacking, so we don't know if this would be just a ...

There are few markets in the world that host as vicious competition as the mobile market here in the United States. Every move by every company is literally do or die. In just four years, we have witnessed a handful of mobile companies fail – some new companies that couldn't find a foothold and older companies that couldn't keep up with the changing of the tides. We are only about a month and a half into 2013, yet the competition is as heated as ever. One of the largest trade shows of the year, where we saw several high-end 1080p handsets and even a gargantuan 6.1-inch smartphone, is a ...

Remember late last month when we showed you a UAProf listing that had us thinking that Samsung's SGH-I337 could be the Galaxy S IV for AT&T? Well today, a bunch of images have been uncovered that appear to have been taken by that very same phone, along with what could be the Korean version of the GS4, Samsung's model SHV-E300S. While we've heard the Galaxy S IV could have a thirteen-megapixel camera, these pictures don't approach that kind of resolution, and instead appear to have been snapped in a lower-res mode. That makes them a little less interesting, but considering just how ...

Back in December, we saw Samsung trademark something called Samsung Air Gesture, and managed to dig up a patent for a camera-based gesture tracking system that seemed to be what that name could be referring to. Now a new rumor suggests that Samsung could take a different route towards a touchless gesture system, and that we could see it debut on the Galaxy S IV. Korea's DDaily says that it's heard from its industry sources that the Galaxy S IV would use a new Atmel-made touch controller chip that would support non-contact screen interactions, along the lines of what we've seen with Sony ...

The 4.99-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display that Samsung showed off at CES will soon go into production. According to recent reports from Korea, the phone-maker will start manufacturing the displays towards the end of the month, with screens being delivered to Samsung Electronics in early March. The Samsung Galaxy S IV, which has been the centerpiece of recent Android rumors, is expected to be unveiled soon -- not at MWC, but depending on rumors, in March or April -- is expected to ship with the aforementioned display. Behind the display there should be, if the reports are legit, an Exynos ...

The fact that there will be no Samsung Galaxy S IV unveiling at MWC in Barcelona is certain, and was definitely expected. However, the rumor mill is in motion concerning a probable date for this year's unpacked event. In 2012 Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S III in May in London and for this year we've already heard reports about a march or an april announcement. According to the latest report Samsung will unveil this year's flagship Android phone on March 15. Some of the rumors surrounding Samsung's anticipated Galaxy S IV have been looking to the phone launching in March, or possibly in April. We've heard a couple specific dates thrown around, but haven't yet had much reason to place an abundance of faith in any one claim. We're still not quite to the point where we can really narrow down the range for just when Samsung might release the GS4, but a new leak at least helps reinforce those rumors that the phone might come out sometime in April. An internal document from New Zealand carrier Two Degrees Mobile spells out the details of an ...

Not much is known about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S IV but if the Galaxy S III is any indication then the US carrier variants should follow soon after the unveiling, which, also from the previous model, might be a dedicated event towards Q2. While at CES the manufacturer did show off some displays and the 4.99-inch Full-HD Super AMOLED could be the best candidate for this year's flagship. The User Agent Profile linked at the source below belongs to a certain Samsung SGH-I337. While the naming indicates an AT&T phone, the Galaxy S III was the SGH-I747.
