Samsung today announced that the company has managed to sell, from the supply side, a total number of 100,000,000 Galaxy S phones. This number aggregates all Galaxy S devices in the line-up, including the original Galaxy S introduced in May 2010, the Galaxy S II unveiled at the 2011 MWC, and the Galaxy S III announced at the 2012 London Unpacked event in May. Samsung's Galaxy S III was one of the biggest smartphone success stories of 2012, so it only stands to reason that any Android with its sights on the top spot for 2013 will need to measure-up against the GS3. We've already given you a hands-on look at the Sony Xperia Z, one of the company's brand-new 1080p Androids, and now we wanted to see how it compares to the best from Samsung. While the Galaxy S III ran either a quad-core Exynos 4 or dual-core Snapdragon, and featured a 4.8-inch 720p screen, the Xperia Z is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon and has a 5.0-inch 1080p display. Both are ...

Quite a few of our readers weighed in with their own, unfortunately negative, experiences when we reported about some Samsung Galaxy S III units suffering from "sudden death" issues. While there was no official acknowledgement of the issue from the manufacturer, Samsung has reportedly repaired or exchanged defective units free of charge. While the issue seems to be one related to faulty motherboards, a recent report claims that Samsung will soon issue a software update which will prevent Galaxy S III units from dying in the future. Aside from committing to a fix, Samsung is also ...

At Pocketnow, we do more than our fair share of comparisons. Most are serious drag races comparing features and performance of very similar smartphones. This is not one of those comparisons. This showdown between wildly dissimilar devices might go down in history as one of our strangest, some would say least-necessary, yet. So why are we doing this weird comparison between a smartphone and a camera-on-steroids? Well, despite the fact that these devices are from the same manufacturer (Samsung) and the same sub-brand (Galaxy), they've actually got a lot in common. We've already given you a ...

You'd think that by now we've had seen all there is to see when it comes to different editions of Samsung's Galaxy S III. We've seen the phone with Exynos 4 chips, with 2GB of RAM, and with what seems like every combination of radio support under the sun. The story may not be quite over yet, though, as an unknown Samsung handset has popped-up in the Bluetooth SIG's database, and it sure sounds like a new Galaxy S III, possibly for T-Mobile. The GS3 for T-Mobile we're already familiar with is model SGH-T999. Of course, that means support for HSPA+ on the carrier's AWS band, which also makes ...

No, you shouldn't freak out over this, but it is always good to be prepared for the worse! There's a huge discussion going on both on Reddit and XDA Developers where owners of Samsung Galaxy S III devices discuss their bad luck: phones are dying for no reason. To be specific: "Tl;Dr – S3 mainboards dying for no reason, Samsung replacing mainboards for free, but no new hardware revision so it might just happen again", says a post on Reddit. There are also other speculations too mentioning a probable fault with the phone's NAND memory that is giving up. So far there is no official ...

Samsung's ATIV S might be late to the party, but the festivities are still in full swing in the Windows Phone 8 world as we close out the year. Since receiving our review unit, we've given you an unboxing and hardware tour, compared it to the Lumia 920, given it the full review treatment, and talked it to pieces on today's episode of the Pocketnow Weekly. Now it's time to put it up against its Android-powered predecessor, its spiritual sibling, the Galaxy S III. Normally our comparison videos focus on specs, app launch times, benchmarks, and so forth. The Samsung Galaxy S III is one of our favorite devices, despite its super-slippery back and pentile display. Within 100 days of its release back in May 2012, Samsung reported that it had sold an impressive 20 million units. Some people love the Touch Wiz user interface that ships with the SGS3, some people hate it. We had to knock a few points off it's score in our full review due to some frustrating behavior in the launcher and the horrible email client that Samsung included. Some of Samsung's built-in apps were extremely useful, while others were cheesy after the novelty wore off. ...
