With last year's Galaxy Camera, Samsung managed to marry the guts from one of its Galaxy-series Androids with the hardware from a stand-alone digital camera. The result, while interesting, ended up falling in an odd middle ground, where it wasn't extremely useful as a smartphone, nor as capable as more traditional digital cameras. This year, Samsung's hoping to do things a little better, and we've already learned of the Galaxy S 4 Zoom, which looks to be a more phone-focused version of the Galaxy Camera. What about going the other direction? Samsung's J.K. Shin has been talking about a ...

We've been talking about the Galaxy S 4 family of phones for weeks, and now the GS4, the GS4 Active, and the GS4 mini are all official. The one that continues to remain unannounced is still the biggest mystery of them all, the Galaxy S 4 Zoom. From the start, we've struggled to positively ID the device as a smartphone or an Android-running camera, and though we've been strongly leading towards the "phone" side in recent weeks, rumors continued to play both sides. Today, we may be able to put that business to rest, getting our first look at what just might be the GS4 Zoom. As you can see, ...

Right from the start, Samsung's Galaxy S 4 Zoom has been one big mystery. From the very first time we heard that name, we've been wondering if this is a new Galaxy Camera model, or if it's more like a traditional smartphone, albeit one with a killer imaging system. As time went on, the name popped up again and again, and this guy started to seem much more like a phone than a camera – based on what we've heard about the hardware, it was coming off as a Galaxy S 4 Mini, but with a big optical zoom lens and 16-megapixel sensor. Today we get a new wrinkle in this story, with a leak now ...

There's no shortage of new hardware announcements this morning, and we've brought you news of the latest devices from ASUS, Acer, and Samsung. A whole bunch of them, including the Galaxy Note III, may just have been inadvertently confirmed, thanks to Samsung's Kazakhstani site. The list has since been edited, but just until recently had been including models like the Galaxy Note III, GS4 Mini, and GS4 Zoom. More than just offer names, it also included model ...

We just got an opportunity to check out some pretty believable specs attributed to Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S 4 Mini, but that's only one of several new GS4 spin-offs we've been tracking. Chances are we'll soon hear the Mini announced, in addition to the GS4 Active and the GS4 Zoom. We've had the chance to look at a phone that appears to be the Active, but remain more in the dark concerning the Zoom. Today we may be able to finally get a better sense of these two devices, with a leaked set of specs for each. Like the GS4 Mini, the Zoom should have a 4.3-inch qHD display. In fact, the ...

One of my biggest pet peeves with smartphones has been their branding. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it's all a bit like a car showroom: some models have lovely, flowery names without the slightest hint of a descriptive element, where others bog their names down with overly-descriptive initialisms - instead of GT and 4WD we have HD and LTE. In recent years, I've had the feeling that things were slowly getting better, with phone names trending towards a happy medium between those extremes. Most recently, some of Samsung's models caught my eye as a prime example of really ...

Earlier this week, rumors arrived of a new Samsung Android called the Galaxy S 4 Zoom. While the initial reporting on this device left us scratching our heads, unsure whether it would be a smartphone with a killer camera or a new full-on Galaxy Camera model, the model kept popping back up, appearing next on a leaked roadmap suggesting it would be announced this month and could ship first thing in July. Today some new evidence turns up, possibly revealing the Zoom's Bluetooth certification. We heard that the Zoom would identify as Samsung model SM-C1010, and now a Samsung model SM-C101 ...

The Galaxy S 4 may be the Samsung Android getting the bulk of the market's attention, but it's far from alone as a 2013 addition to the company's lineup. Lately, we've been talking about a whole bunch of new Samsung devices, from those that have already gone official, like the two Galaxy Mega models, to ones that remain the stuff of rumors, like the Galaxy S 4 Active and S 4 Zoom, which we just heard of yesterday. Now we get some idea of when many of these models could arrive, thanks to a leaked list of launch dates. This data may be specific to European releases, but at least it might ...

Samsung loves grouping together smartphones into families. Of course there's the Galaxy S lineup, and then within those ranks we see even smaller groupings, like how we expect a Galaxy S 4 Mini to arrive and join the GS4 itself. This time around, it's sounded like that family could be larger than ever, thanks to talk about a waterproof edition called the Galaxy S 4 Active. Today a new rumor arrives that could point to yet another GS4 spin-off, or rather it might if we could make much sense out of it. According to SamMobile, Samsung is working on a device called the Galaxy S 4 Zoom. It ...
