    One of my biggest pet peeves with smartphones has been their branding. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it's all a bit like a car showroom: some models have lovely, flowery names without the slightest hint of a descriptive element, where others bog their names down with overly-descriptive initialisms - instead of GT and 4WD we have HD and LTE. In recent years, I've had the feeling that things were slowly getting better, with phone names trending towards a happy medium between those extremes.     In the time leading up to the launch of the Galaxy S 4, we sure heard plenty of rumors about just what sort of hardware we'd end up seeing. You might remember that a "Project J" was mentioned more than once. Supposedly, the GS4 itself was the main Project J model, but a number of others were mentioned. Specifically, we heard about both a J Mini and a J Active.     The Galaxy S 4 may be the Samsung Android getting the bulk of the market's attention, but it's far from alone as a 2013 addition to the company's lineup.     An unusual bit of Galaxy S 4 news ended up on our desk earlier this week, when a Samsung exec claimed that, despite the regular GS4 only now just starting to go up for sale, Samsung was already preparing to follow it up with a ruggedized edition, offering a dust and waterproof construction. Was this guy getting a little confused about the company line, or could such a thing really be in our future?
