All the rumors and speculation about the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active can now be put to rest as the phone-maker made the ruggedized device official. With so many recent announcements (like the S 4 mini, Tab 3 8.1 and Tab 3 10.1) we're wondering what's left for Samsung to show off at the London June 20 event. Featuring build compliant to IP67 standards, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active will survive dust and water. Under the ruggedized build there are specs which resemble pretty much the ones on the Galaxy S 4. That means it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.9GHz, ...

Two new renders leak today to get us through the weekend. The Huawei Ascend W2 was leaked in blue recently and it looks like it won't be the only color option. A yellow variant has just popped up and if it reminds you of Nokia's colors we won't blame you. The buttons, this time, appear to be orange. Still, like before, no other info is available. According to previous speculation the Ascend W2 should pack a 4.5-inch 720p display, dual-core SoC, 1GB of RAM, eight-megapixel main camera, 2800mAh battery, a 7.7 millimeters thick body. Same story as above, different platform and manufacturer. ...

While nothing's yet to go official, it sure feels like a lot of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active's story has already been revealed. We've seen what sure seems to be the phone in the flesh, checked out some specs, and heard about a possible AT&T launch. Today we add to that tale with the first leaked render of the handset. True enough, it's sporting an AT&T logo, and that date on the screen sure seems to jibe with the theory that we could hear this guy announced on June 20 (going up for sale a day later, perhaps). There's no metallic orange this time around, but a more reserved gray ...

We just got an opportunity to check out some pretty believable specs attributed to Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S 4 Mini, but that's only one of several new GS4 spin-offs we've been tracking. Chances are we'll soon hear the Mini announced, in addition to the GS4 Active and the GS4 Zoom. We've had the chance to look at a phone that appears to be the Active, but remain more in the dark concerning the Zoom. Today we may be able to finally get a better sense of these two devices, with a leaked set of specs for each. Like the GS4 Mini, the Zoom should have a 4.3-inch qHD display. In fact, the ...

Sprint's Kyocera Torque is a real monster. A rugged phone for the rough-and-tumble construction crowd, the phone features mil-spec toughening to the 810G and IP67 standards for dust, shock, extreme temperatures and pressures, solar radiation, blowing rain, salt fog, and immersion for up to 30 minutes in up to a meter of water. When we reviewed it several months back, we called the Torque a "beastly tank of a smartphone," an appellation that continues to suit it well today. The problem: since the review period ended, our demo Torque has sat in its box at the far end of our review table in ...

Yesterday, we got what seems to be our first real look at the Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active, the waterproof version of the Galaxy S 4 that's been the subject of a number of rumors in recent weeks. What we saw looked great, and the rumored specs suggested that the phone would keep much of the original GS4's abilities, only really taking a small hit when it came to camera resolution. As Pocketnow reader Amer Lukac pointed out in the comments, a video of the GS4 Active has surfaced as well, only this time the specs attached to the model aren't quite as grand. The good news first: the video seems ...

Then we talk about smaller versions of Windows 8 tablets as the Acer Iconia W3 leaks a product that's ready for the market. Later we go through Google I/O's teasers on Key Lime Pie all through the presentations. We end today's show talking about the first Jolla smartphone running their Sailfish OS and what this means to the smartphone industry. All this and more ...

It's sure seemed like Samsung was planning a whole series of Galaxy S 4 models, from the original smartphone to variants like the GS4 Mini, Zoom, and the Active we just got a chance to look at. Over the weekend, some new evidence arrived that just might point to another GS4 family member, taking its name from the manufacturer's new Mega line. A screenshot purporting to show the update details for the latest version of the Samsung WatchON app, arriving yesterday, notes that it "added support for upcoming S4 Mega, S4 mini, and S4 Active." That same line is missing from the "what's new" text ...

The idea of a Samsung Galaxy S 4 Active has been floating around for months now, and back in April it finally started to take shape as a waterproof version of the GS4 itself. Since then we've heard about a possible launch next month, and seen AT&T mentioned as a potential carrier in the US. What we haven't had has been a solid understanding of the phone's hardware, nor any kind of look at the facade itself. Today we get both, and it's all largely good news. That means a phone that keeps a lot of GS4 design cues, as well as hardware components. While what we can see here adds some bold ...

One of my biggest pet peeves with smartphones has been their branding. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it's all a bit like a car showroom: some models have lovely, flowery names without the slightest hint of a descriptive element, where others bog their names down with overly-descriptive initialisms - instead of GT and 4WD we have HD and LTE. In recent years, I've had the feeling that things were slowly getting better, with phone names trending towards a happy medium between those extremes. Most recently, some of Samsung's models caught my eye as a prime example of really ...

In the time leading up to the launch of the Galaxy S 4, we sure heard plenty of rumors about just what sort of hardware we'd end up seeing. You might remember that a "Project J" was mentioned more than once. Supposedly, the GS4 itself was the main Project J model, but a number of others were mentioned. Specifically, we heard about both a J Mini and a J Active. A GS4 Mini sounded about right, but at the time we didn't quite know what to make of the Active; recently, evidence of a waterproof GS4 Active has finally turned up to answer our questions. Today, we add to the Project J story with a ...

Rumors about a waterproof version of the Galaxy S 4 arrived last month, with this handset supposedly set to launch as the GS4 Active. It seemed a little odd for a model like that not to be announced alongside its namesake, but further rumors seemed to support the idea that this phone was very real, with a leak claiming a European release date of July 15. Evidence of the GS4 Active continues to pile-up, and today the phone's supposed model number for AT&T has leaked. According to tipster superstar evleaks, the GS4 Active will be coming to AT&T as model SGH-I537. The original GS4 on ...

The Galaxy S 4 may be the Samsung Android getting the bulk of the market's attention, but it's far from alone as a 2013 addition to the company's lineup. Lately, we've been talking about a whole bunch of new Samsung devices, from those that have already gone official, like the two Galaxy Mega models, to ones that remain the stuff of rumors, like the Galaxy S 4 Active and S 4 Zoom, which we just heard of yesterday. Now we get some idea of when many of these models could arrive, thanks to a leaked list of launch dates. This data may be specific to European releases, but at least it might ...
