It was back in early June when we first started talking about Samsung's Exynos 5433, the latest upgrade to the company's line of SoCs. Among the many devices those early 5433 rumors were tied to was the Galaxy Note 4, and sure enough, that's the chip that powers the international version of Samsung's new phablet. So far, all the various Exynos 5400-series chips have been Exynos 5 Octas of one kind or another – from the 5410 in the Note 4 to the 5430 in the Galaxy Alpha – but the 5433 is special: unlike those other models with 32-bit Cortex A15 and A7 cores, the 5433 moves up to ...

Last year's Galaxy Note 3 scored high marks in our original review and our After The Buzz followup, but it lacked the aspirational spirit of its progenitors. Whereas the first Note was a wildly (and unexpectedly) successful experiment and the second was a bold "consumerization" of that idea, the Note 3 appeared somewhat dull by comparison. Sure, in the moment, we loved it: it packed great specs and it played an important role in breaking Samsung of its hyperglaze addiction – but in retrospect, its flimsy build and fast-aging software seem more than a little underwhelming. Those are ...

If I had my way, that headline above would go like this: "Unlikely mutant success meets when-pigs-fly Hail Mary in acid-fueled crazytown showdown." So maybe it's good that I don't have my way (this time). Put more plainly: this is a comparison I never thought I'd have the opportunity to do. If you'd told me, back in 2011, that Samsung's freakazoid phone-tablet hybrid would enjoy enough success to spawn three sequels (and galvanize an entirely new smartphone category in the process), I'd have called you a crazy person. And I'd have called you much worse if you tried to convince me that ...

Samsung is on to something big with the Galaxy Note 4, and we're not just referring to its size. The device was highly praised by our team as we got some hands-on time with it at IFA in Berlin, and we'll admit it's one of the devices we're anticipating most for this holiday season. If you thought we were the only ones excited, think again, as it seems to be significantly delayed in certain parts of the world. Samsung had committed to have the Galaxy Note 4 arrive to customers in the UK on October 10, but it seems that those plans just got ditched. Samsung Mobile UK has just replied to a ...

Nobody wants a broken smartphone, but accidents happen, hardware fails, and all it takes is some bad luck to leave us high and dry without a functional handset. In order to protect themselves against such disaster, plenty of phone users pick up insurance, replacement plans, extended warranties – any sort of service that helps cushion the blow of repair or replacements costs and gets a working phone back in their hands as soon as possible. Apple's got its AppleCare+, and today we learn of a similar service coming from Samsung, as the manufacturer begins selling its Protection Plus Mobile ...

On the surface, it may seem like the HTC Desire EYE and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 are entirely different beasts, but as it turns out... never mind, this really is no contest. We try to find just how large a spec gap lies between the two phones in our HTC Desire EYE vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4 specs comparison, right down below. Let us begin by first stating that there is only one category where the Desire EYE beats out the Note 4, and that's also the most obvious one: the front-facing camera. Seeing as though HTC's shoved a 13MP BSI sensor and dual-LED flash in the front of the Desire EYE, ...

Samsung is definitely not having its best couple of quarters when it comes to its economics, but we wish this was the only drama the Korean giant faces right now. We've seen the continuous patent lawsuits that the company has lost against Apple, and we also know this is not the only lawsuit Samsung faces. NVIDIA is another company that's currently battling Samsung over patents, and some recent developments might complicate things even more. NVIDIA has recently announced that the ITC (US International Trade Commission) has voted to investigate whether certain of Samsung's recent devices ...

After bending the Note 4 a week ago, because it can take it (and mostly because the iPhone 6 Plus can't take it: #bendgate), Samsung has officially published a Galaxy Note 4 drop test video on its YouTube channel. Fueled mostly by the success of its previous campaign showing off the durability of the phablet (or simply because it wants to show you just how tough it is), the smartphone in this video is repeatedly dropped from different heights and different angles. Whether it's concrete or solid granite, Samsung drops its phablet on it. The Note 4 drop test video also contains a nice ...

In the last two years or so, one word in particular has become increasingly popular in this industry: flagship. Samsung’s new flagship this or that. What’s the best flagship of 2013? Is this new phone Company X's flagship? It gets tossed around endlessly, and practically every new high-end smartphone is considered a “flagship”. But what is a flagship, exactly? What does the term actually mean? Are we using it improperly and, thusly, altering its meaning in the mobile realm? According to Wikipedia, a flagship is "the best or most important thing owned or produced by a particular ...

One of the many reasons the Galaxy Note line of products from Samsung is so popular is because of the S Pen, and all of the software features that are baked-in to TouchWiz allowing the stylus to serve as a useful productivity tool. With the Note 4's release, the list of features has become so long, that it was decided that a whole Samsung S Pen video was to be produced to help Note 4 owners (and soon-to-be owners) out with their new phone. You're walked through three features: Smart Select - Capture and Share, Smart Select - Link to related apps, and Photo Note. The former lets you capture ...

Just over a month ago, Samsung revealed its Gear VR head-mounted display accessory for the Galaxy Note 4 at its pre-IFA Unpacked event. The headset, designed with help from Oculus VR, was announced without a ton of details concerning how it would go up for sale. We quickly picked up on a possible $200 price tag, but still lacked a timetable any more precise than that of a release planned before the year was out. But now as we move further into October, new leaks are arriving with new release details, and the one we're checking out today suggests plans to start selling the Gear VR on ...

What does Apple and Samsung have in common? A lot, we know, but most recently, both companies are struggling with "gates". Apple's got its own #bendgate, while Samsung is trying to cope with #gapgate. However, Samsung, in its most recent social update, is showing off how the Galaxy Note 4 can take bends. The clip doesn't specifically call out Apple, and its iPhone 6 Plus problems (like previous Samsung ads heavily hinted towards the Cupertino-based company), but you get it anyways. Samsung bends a Note 4 in this video, using a three-point robot/machine that applies force to the middle of ...

Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 is here, ready for you to go out and purchase. Well, that's true for certain smartphone shoppers, at least, if you happen to be living in the right nations. Last week we saw Samsung get an early start to Note 4 sales in Asia, bringing the phablet to South Korean carriers in advance of initial October release plans. That means that most of us are still waiting for the phone, but just how much longer do we have to go? This week, Samsung released the handy chart you see up top, breaking down Note 4 availability on a global scale. Admittedly, this isn't the best ...
