Before the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom was announced, as the successor to the Galaxy S4 Zoom, we thought that the company would maintain its 2013 naming convention, and release the device as the S5 Zoom. Instead, Samsung announced the Galaxy K zoom on April 29, and the device is available in just a few select markets for the moment. However, the camera-phone crossover will be available this Friday, June 13, in South Korea, on the LG U+ network. The company has renamed the device to Galaxy Zoom2, but the rest is still unchanged. For 693,000 South Korean wons (about $680) you'll get a phone ...

Nimble hops between short subjects, or longform plumbing of deep depths? We don't like to make you choose with our podcast, so we occasionally hop across formats between episodes. This here is one of the deeper variety. This week's special guest is Myriam Joire (aka tnkgrl), Engadget alum and current product evangelist at Pebble. She brings her considerable expertise in optics and audio to a discussion ranging from the best high-end headphones to buy (to help replicate the "special" acoustic experience promised by the Harman/Kardon HTC One M8) to what camera settings to use for capturing ...

Two weeks back, Samsung started sending out notices for its next media event, inviting us to “kapture the moment” and featuring a large letter K that seemed to give credence to rumors that the device we had been calling the Galaxy S5 Zoom would instead launch as part of a new Galaxy K brand. Last week we got to check out a rather convincing image of the actual hardware, and now we're just hours away from Samsung's announcement, scheduled to occur tomorrow morning in Singapore. With the clock ticking down, Samsung's been teasing the event, and doing so in a way that appears to reinforce ...

Call it the Samsung Galaxy K, the Galaxy S5 Zoom, or the Galaxy K Zoom, we all know what we're talking about: it's the 2014 follow-up to last year's Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom. We've already heard about it, and it seems like a logical move for the South Koreans to follow last year's pattern, which includes a camera with a phone, alongside the mini version of the flagship. April 29 should be the day of its unveiling, if the reports and chit-chat are spot on, and a week before that, we're seeing some leaked images of what the device might look like. As you'd expect, it is still a camera with a ...

Skipping listener mail for two weeks in a row? We know, we know ... unconscionable. But we also know you'll forgive us in exchange for two things: a packed review schedule, and an awesome podcast guest. We're bringing you both of those as the week winds down to a close. Of all the possible “spin-offs” that would join the Galaxy S5 as members of Samsung's 2014 family, a Galaxy S5 Zoom has long seemed the most likely to make an appearance. We've been chasing leads on the phone for a couple months now, but the most interesting development came earlier this month, when a source both provided the first possible image of the hardware, along with a new name for the model: the Galaxy K Zoom. We weren't quite sure at the time how much faith to put in any of that, considering the name seemed to come from out of left field and the picture itself didn't look ...
