The Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T is plenty noteworthy as the first smartphone to run Windows Phone Mango. More than that, though, it could also pick up a reputation as one of the most expensive Windows Phone devices around; pricing information reveals that the IS12T could end up costing its users nearly $1000. Price data comes courtesy of one of carrier KDDI's subsidiaries, which posted the price points for the IS12T with various service options. Fujitsu-Toshiba Mobile Communications is Japan's second mobile phone manufacturing company after Sharp and it has been recently announced as a Windows Phone OEM, with the Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T already being unveiled. It appears that Toshiba will be dropping out of the joint venture and Fujitsu is planning on buying its shares out. Fujitsu will become whole after acquiring Toshiba's 19.9% and adding it to its own stake of 80.1% in 2012. Will this affect Windows Phone? Will the IS12T be the only phone Fujitsu Toshiba ever made? DigiTimes quotes "industry sources" and reports that Windows Phone device makers like HTC, Samsung Electronics, and LG Electronics plan on launching their upcoming Mango-phones this September in order to compete with Apple's upcoming iPhone. This might or might not be totally true as Microsoft and its OEMs don't need to directly compete with Apple's iPhone just yet, but instead get the platform running on new devices to the market as soon as possible. Just as the rumors implied, Microsoft, Japanese operator KDDI and Fujitsu-Toshiba held a press event where the IS12T was introduced as Japan's first Windows Phone and also the world's first Windows Phone running the new platform refresh, Mango.
