Samsung’s had its chance(s) to bring out the big guns for the upcoming holiday season, largely spoiled by a series of unfortunate exploding events, companies like Sony, Acer, Asus and Lenovo shared the IFA 2016 spotlight, LG did everything in its power yesterday to rain on iPhone 7’s parade, and now, it’s finally time for Apple’s big day. Another big day after the WWDC introduction of iOS 10 back on June 13, that is, this time centered on highly anticipated hardware releases. Yes, plural, with the Apple Watch 2 likely joining the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus on the Bill Graham Civic Center ...

HTC sweeps its spotlight and light flares once again for a 17-second promo that's likely pointing to the release of the Desire 10 Pro and the Desire 10 Lifestyle coming September 20. This time around, we're looking at a number that's not "10," but 15 times bigger than that. It's coming. 9.20. https://t.co/qJ9XDwNqEU #BeEdgier pic.twitter.com/JDOhQ3DzMJ — HTC (@htc) September 5, 2016 In the haze of circles, we'd like to think that it's a statement on its camera, but unless it has a 150-blade aperture or a 150-shot burst mode or something, we'll go out of our way to speculate a new meaning ...

On Wednesday, Apple will gather the press together while the rest of us crowd up the event livestream to show off the latest in mobile hardware and software for the company's ecosystem. In other words, it's the iPhone, stupid. This year's iPhone 7, suspected to have come in three flavors and a congested name at one point, may take many Apple fans big and small by surprise — even though we've been talking about it for months and months at this point. But if you happen to be getting on the train during the moment before "the iPhoning" on September 7, don't worry about it. We have you ...

While Amazon's voice assistant, Alexa, may seem like old news to you on products like the Echo and the Tap, keep in mind that it's only been out in the US for all this time. But with competing products scheduled to debut this season, maybe it's time that Alexa start packing her bags. Looks like Amazon's Echo is coming to the UK on September 14th. A video posted by Matt Brian (@mattbrian) on Sep 2, 2016 at 7:09am PDT Matt Brian asked Alexa about some happening on September 14 and she responded with a bucket list dream: to come to London. Quickly after Taiwanese manufacturer HTC posted a 20-second video on Twitter that gave slow light ray reveals of some dark, mysterious HTC smartphone that's yet to come, several users in the social sphere pulled up an image of what's rumored to be either the Desire 10 Pro, Desire 10 Lifestyle or maybe just the Desire 10 — after all, we only see one device in the video. Really, who knows at this point? It’s coming. 09.20 #BeEdgier pic.twitter.com/sh605tYYe4 — HTC (@htc) August 31, 2016 One's supposedly a budget-focused mid-ranger that may or may not re-define what we think of when we ...

Update: This story has been updated with information from the launch event. With all due respect to other companies' wearables to be showcased at IFA Berlin this year, the only real smartwatch of Note (heh) that's garnered enough buzz to be watched is Samsung's Gear S3. We suspect that the recent leaks of the ZenWatch 3 and a more global push for the ZenFone 3 Deluxe and its friends will be the cruxes of this event. Remember the Galaxy Note 7? From that Korean company? Well, wash your mind from that and just look at this jewel of a phone that will bring your "eyes to the world." It also brings Huawei and its affiliate, Honor, back to the US for another product launch. The Honor 8 was launched from an event in San Francisco and with a move in markets from China — where it sold 280,000 units in the first four hours of sales — to the US, the smartphone is definitely getting targeted toward the Samsung crowd. The company reminded us of how hip and young it is, — Honor's Global President George ...

Our Juan Carlos Bagnell is on the ground in San Francisco at Honor's latest smartphone launch for the US market. We strongly believe it to be the Honor 8 that was launched in China last month, based on visual teasers and the use of a modified infinity insignia that's been integral to the Chinese-side marketing of the Honor 8. Of course, we can't confirm anything before the event happens. Better yet, some other devices might make the cut. Huawei's primary sub-brand will bring its "Eyes to the world" tonight with a livestream starting at 8pm Pacific, 11pm Pacific and 3:00 GMT. Catch it right ...

It was a short while ago that we saw Meizu launch its PRO 6 smartphone with a tri-cluster MediaTek processor, 10 LEDs for a flash ring and some dainty antennas. It was an even shorter while ago that we started talking about another PRO 6 (and the PRO 7). Would it sport an Exynos 8890 chipset this time around or not? Well, perhaps we should tuck a sticky note or two into our pocket calendar for September 3 and September 13. Wait, what? Two posters are going around showing off the two dates — though the September 3 poster seems to be more popular at the moment, based on a quick check of ...

Call it what you want, but it seems that Samsung has a big success on its hands with the Galaxy Note 7. In fact, it's so much of a success, certain countries are starting to reel back from pre-orders and general sales availabilities. Samsung Malaysia, for example, has released a missive to the media saying that because of market demand, it won't be able to officially launch the Note 7 in the market until next month. That said, it had been running pre-orders through today with some promised early shipping dates — the company continues to promise that the dates will be honored. Europe has ...

Funny how a conversation about Apple's rather partite products can get intersectional sometimes. In talking about a potential new MacBook Pro that will have a new display (in multiple senses), new internals and a new lease on life in general, sources to Bloomberg also disclosed that this new notebook probably won't be launched on September 7. Why September 7? That's when the next-generation iPhone 7 models are going to be announced. Why on a Wednesday? We're not sure. The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were announced at an event on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. But the iPhone 6 generation ...

Following an epileptic opening ceremony and a melodious collage of national anthems to follow along with the Olympic spirit, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Note 7. Company president Dongjin Koh calls it the "world's most intelligent smartphone" and an entry into the fastest growing category of such phones: the phablet. Big points about the Note 7 were presented before the phone was even announced like the iris scanner, — with applications for keeping parents' children safe (and vice versa) along with mobile banking — the device's water-resistance, its wireless charging ...

Xiaomi might have racked up some 1.5 million sales for its Mi Max smartphone, but all achievements are fleeting in an industry that keeps the butter churning. So, when's the next big release date? According to the company, it's to be July 27. From left field of Candlestick Park — rest in pieces — comes a surprise from Honor. The Huawei sub-brand is continuing its campaign in the US as it has promised to. It has invited press to an event in San Francisco on August 16 "for an exciting product launch, following the success of the Honor 5X in the U.S." The accompanying teaser picture features a modified infinity sign — also known as a sideways "8". Meizu is feeling the pressure to give a good whack at its mid-range flagship this season, especially with the bang-up job it supposedly did with the PRO 6. And one co-founder is opening up to those challenges. Bai Yongxiang has posted to his Weibo account that the company is doing its best to export as much power as possible from the PRO 6 to the MX6. "Costs and prices will increase, but I believe there will be nothing like it in terms of craftsmanship in the ¥2,000 range ($300-450)," Bai posted. For context, last year's MX5 started at around the equivalent of $290. One AnTuTu ...

Chinese manufacturer Vivo is readying itself for another smartphone release. Unlike the Xplay 5 Elite, though, these two devices won't be busting any blocks — even the company admits it through an initial release of their specs. [gallery columns="1" ids="475884"] But what we're looking is far from basic. The Vivo X7 will sport a Snapdragon 652 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage standard. The 16-megapixel selfie camera gets paired with a "Moonlight" flash diode. Of course, like other Vivo offerings, there's little bezel around the screen and below it is the fingerprint sensor. ...

There's plenty of anticipation hanging in the air. Lenovo and Motorola will be dropping plenty of that during today's keynote for the Lenovo Tech World '16 conference today. We have on-the-ground coverage in San Francisco, but if you want to get the keynote directly from there (and you're not there, we assume), this is the place to get it. If you're in it for the RAZR throwbacks, for the much-rumored Moto Z, the purported Phab 2 Pro with Project Tango augmented reality technology or all of the above, we'll be comparing wishlists to spec lists for the next little while.
