We first heard of the 6.12.181 update for the Verizon Motorola Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX at the beginning of April but shortly after rumor had it the manufacturer was dropping the refresh in favor on a possible Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich soak test.
It seems that either the reports were faulty or Motorola changed its mind because the full changelog for the upcoming 6.12.181 refresh has been made public. It will be applicable to both the Droid RAZR and the RAZR MAXX and it will bring, as usual, bugfixes, improved battery life, accurate 4G indicator plus the rest which [...]
Motorola has been on a roll when it comes to Droid RAZR models lately, coming out with the slightly-revised RAZR Maxx just a few months after the original handset made its debut. Since then, we’ve heard about plans for a possible third RAZR, tipped under the codename Droid Fighter. Today, we get to check out some evidence that may just reveal an additional RAZR variant, or perhaps give us what will be the Fighter’s proper retail name.
EXIF data in public photos on Picasa reveals a device claiming to be the Droid RAZR HD. Considering we heard that the model we know as [...]
We mobile mavens have been jabbering about battery life for years. Almost a decade ago, when dumbphones were the only phones around and HowardForums was still the best place to talk mobile tech, people were already pointing out that battery technology wasn’t keeping pace with the rest of the industry’s innovations. And it’s true: one of the biggest speed brakes on innovation in the mobile space has been battery life. Because all the amazing features in the world don’t matter if you’re constantly tethered to a power outlet.
In the past decade, [...]
Last week brought with it plenty of news regarding software updates for the Motorola Droid RAZR, but not in the way many of us were expecting. We came into the week armed with a rumor that the phone’s Ice Cream Sandwich update might start going out on Wednesday; ultimately, that didn’t end up happening. The internal Best Buy notification system which originally served as source of that rumor saw itself update to reflect some new delay. Then we heard about a coming soak test for a RAZR update, but one that was just a Gingerbread maintenance release, rather than ICS. Just [...]
If last week’s Best Buy report concerning an imminent Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Motorola Droid RAZR got your hope up high, it’s time to play the waiting game again (hopefully for just a little bit more). With the official wording missing, we’re still left with rumors, leaks and reports.
However, Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX users, while a little bit bitter because of ICS running late, can enjoy a soak test. The build is Version.6.12.181.XT912.Verizon.en.US and some welcome fixes. Check them out below:
ALL DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX by [...]
Late last week, we looked into a rumor that claimed Verizon subscribers would be seeing some Ice Cream Sandwich updates headed their way this week, with both the Motorola Droid RAZR and the HTC Rezound supposed to be making the journey to Android 4.0. Supposedly sourced to an internal Best Buy news posting, the rumor had the Rezound’s update not landing until this Friday, but the RAZR’s was on-tap for today. With no reports yet of any such updates going out OTA, nor any sign of an update on Verizon’s site, it’s starting to look like this one’s busted. Some [...]
The Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX tries to be the answer to many users’ questions regarding all day battery life. Everyone would like to not worry at all about being around a charger at one point in the day so the RAZR MAXX boasts a huge battery which should be enough for whatever you do from morning until evening.
Now Motorola is preparing to bring the Droid RAZR MAXX to Europe and Middle East as the RAZR MAXX (following the RAZR which is already present on these markets). In are a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display, a huge battery [...]
Best Buy is really proving itself to be a font of rumors lately. Earlier today we looked at an email attributed to Best Buy which seemed to reveal the planned release date for the HTC One X on AT&T. Now we move from Windows Phone to Android-land, with a new source out of Best Buy suggesting that a few Verizon handsets are about to see the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich next week.
A little while back, we looked at a leaked ICS ROM that had become available for the HTC Rezound, showing progress since an earlier ROM that made it seem like the finished update was nearly [...]
Last month we asked the question, can a Motorola Droid RAZR be upgraded to a RAZR Maxx? The answer back then was “yes” with a big, fast asterisk noting the parts weren’t readily accessible, one part couldn’t be found, and the operation was somewhat delicate.
Now, two out of three of those concerns are gone!
The folks over at Cellphone Repair Shop have put the entire kit together for you, all you need to do is supply your Motorola Droid RAZR, a few tools (which you can buy from them, if need be), and US$109.95 plus shipping, and you’re all [...]
This time last week, we looked into a rumor that the Droid Fighter which had been mentioned in leaked Verizon roadmaps was actually a new large-screen RAZR variant. That seemed plausible enough, given how we had already seen a bunch of RAZR-alikes that Motorola had prepared for China. Today we get a look at another model that might be joining the RAZR family, as well as two mid-range Motorola Androids.
Our new RAZR variant supposedly goes by the name “Blade”, which is either a bad pun or a translation error we’re leaning towards the latter. Comparing it [...]
A couple new smartphones for Verizon have been popping-up on leaked roadmaps lately, including the Droid Fighter. Much earlier, we looked at a list of HTC codenames for upcoming handsets, and saw the Fighter among them; could this Droid Fighter be related, or is the common name just a coincidence? Today, a picture of a phone purporting to be the Droid Fighter has been released, along with some basic information on the phone, only this time we’re looking at a model manufactured by Motorola.
Instead of HTC, the source behind the imagery says that it’s Motorola that [...]
Motorola is really outdoing itself when it comes to transparency with its plans for delivering Ice Cream Sandwich updates to its lineup of existing Android smartphones and tablets. Granted, it doesn’t always have useful information to share on every model, but we love having the official word on so many devices all in one place, so we know just where to check back frequently for the latest updates. Motorola just made some of those changes to its list, and it’s looking like there might be some unfortunate, though not entirely unexpected, news for some of its users.
So far, news about which Android handsets will be making the journey to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and which will be left behind to stagnate has largely been coming from the manufacturers themselves. Some, like Motorola, have detailed support pages up outlining which models should be seeing updates, and when. Other are content to release snippets of their progress on the likes of Twitter and Facebook. Today, though, that news is coming from a carrier, with Verizon publishing a list of devices on its network that are slated to receive Ice Cream Sandwich.
Verizon calls this a [...]
If you bought a Motorola Droid RAZR and were disappointed when the RAZR Maxx, with it’s MUCH larger battery, you might just be in luck!
XDA-Developer wardo5757 has discovered that it’s possible to replace the RAZR’s battery with that from the RAZR Maxx, and essentially turn the former into the latter.
Of course doing so will void your warranty, requires disassembling your phone, and you’ll need the new battery a new back-plate and replacement port cover, but it can be done!
Head over to this thread on XDA-Developers to find out how to [...]
Last week we heard about a new variant on the Motorola Droid RAZR that was set to arrive, and this time not just one with a larger battery. We learned that Verizon was going to start selling limited edition versions of the phone, both the original and the RAZR Maxx, as part of a numbered series and featuring a nice-looking red pattern on the phone’s rear. The only bad news we had at time was that this offer would be exclusive to Verizon employees, so it seemed like you’d have to be friends with one or luck-out on eBay to score one of the handsets. Now, though, it’s [...]
From its strikingly thin construction, to its sleek Kevlar facade, Motorola’s Droid RAZR makes a strong effort towards keeping smartphones stylish. If you like the general design of the phone, but were hoping for maybe a slightly bolder look, you might be interested in the news of a limited edition RAZR that’s just leaked-out of Verizon.
The big difference between a regular RAZR and the limited edition model is the new Kevlar back panel design, now heavily accented with Verizon red. The phone also gets a “Limited Edition” tag up front, and will be [...]
Hot on the heels of Verizon showing off the upcoming Motorola Droid 4 on its DroidDoes webpage, reports are coming in that February 10 will not only be the day we’ll meet the Droid 4 in person but also the day Verizon will be kicking off some promotions.
The Droid 4 will most likely go for $199.99 on a two-year contract but starting February 10 Verizon is kicking off its BoGo deal on the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX. We’ll also reportedly see the carrier’s double data promotion granting you 4GB of data for $30/month, applicable to all 4G LTE smartphone [...]
The Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx has a huge 3300mAh battery which provides almost two days of juice under a heavy use case scenario. To get the bigger battery it will cost you a $100 premium plus 2mm of thickness when compared to the original Droid RAZR. Is it worth the premium?
We’ve become so conditioned to managing battery life that we’ve adjusted our usage habits to accomodate the relatively poor battery life of most smartphones out there. We charge up each day (and in a lot of cases, more than once per day), we adjust sync settings to toll the battery less, we [...]
Happy happy joy joy, what do we have here? Users of the Sprint HTC EVO Shift 4G, T-Mobile myTouch 3G, Verizon Droid RAZR (plus RAZR MAXX) and AT&T Motorola Atrix 2 all have one thing in common: updates.
Sprint’s update for the HTC EVO Shift 4G is version 2.77.651.3 and brings a couple of bug fixes, software tweaks, security enhancements, and a new version of Peep, HTC’s Twitter client. It is also advertised to improved battery life.
The myTouch 3G on T-Mobile gets the FRK76C update which only has one thing listed in its changes: a certain Google security [...]
The Droid RAZR Maxx is no different than the original Droid RAZR, except that it has a much bigger battery. How big is big? Nearly double the sizes at 3300mAh versus 1780mAh. What’s more, this larger battery has marginally added to the thickness of the RAZR Maxx: it’s 8.9mm thick instead of 7.1mm.
Beyond the huge 3300mAh battery, the RAZR Maxx has a dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP CPU with 1GB RAM, 16GB ROM (plus there’s a 16GB microSD card in the box), an 8MP camera on the back (capable of 1080p video) and a 2MP shooter up front. The display is still of the Super [...]
OPMOSH stands for “Operation Make Ourselves Heard” and, if recent actions tried to remind Motorola about the promises it made regarding bootloader unlocks, the second iteration (#OPMOSH2) is not happy at all with the Motorola RAZR Developer Edition.
People want “to let Moto know that this “Developer Edition” had better be available either as a trade for our devices, paying the difference, or not at all, since we all bought our devices in hopes for them to keep their word in the first place”.
The company recently announced the RAZR [...]
The road to unlocked bootloaders for Motorola wasn’t as smooth as the road HTC decided to go down on, for example. Motorola promised to unlock bootloaders until late 2011 and OPMOSH seems to be kind enough to remind the company of its own promises.
Motorola announced the availability of an unlockable version of the Motorola RAZR. The post which went live on the Motorola blog quickly disappeared but Droid-life managed to get a screen grab seen above. The unlock will be possible, according to the wording, through MOTODEV, a place where an unlockable developer device for the [...]
We already know that the Motorola-made Verizon Droid RAZR and its slightly fatter twin brother, the RAZR Maxx, share the exact same internals, with the exception of the larger battery which only adds below two-millimeters of bulk to the phone.
It is just normal that the two identical phones (if we disregard the battery) run the exact same software bits. According to recent reports, the version numbers are exactly the same. What does this mean for the user? Verizon and Motorola can push out software updates at the same time for the two device. Oh, and those custom ROMs and hack [...]
