This morning, HTC released the sourcecode to the T-Mobile myTouch 4G's kernel. This doesn't mean much to the average Android user, but to developers and modders it means that ROMs and tweaks can be developed to enable all sorts of customizations and optimizations. Along with the myTouch 4G kernel, HTC also published a pair of "Maintenance Releases" for the T-Mobile G2 and Droid Incredible. This isn't the entire sourcecode for the device as some other news outlets are reporting, it's just the kernel, not any proprietary, closed-source bits. Even still, it's good news all around! We had strong reasons to believe Verizon's V Cast Market was coming to the HTC Droid Incredible in future maintenance update and it looks like Verizon is already pushing out a minor update to handsets since last evening. The 18MB update being pushed out is a minor update in itself but it contains Verizon's V Cast Market which is the place to buy applications, similar to the classic Android Market, only that it allows paying for the purchased applications via adding the additional costs to your bill, rather than applying to your credit card. The version number is 3.26.605.1 with a Baseband ...

Verizon may be releasing the HTC Incredible HD as an LTE-capable device on its nascent post-3G network early next year, possibly in March, according to a credible tipster on Twitter. User black_man_x, who seems to be a Verizon employee from the early access he gets to many pre-release devices, casually tweeted the other day that he "just saw something so incredible that it was almost HD... and LiTE as a feather." It's fairly clear from the language that he is referencing the rumored followup to the Droid Incredible, supposedly the same kickstand-equipped device pictured some months ago in ...

Verizon is making good on their promise to bring their own branded Market, V Cast Apps, to Android devices. In the maintenance update coming soon to the Droid Incredible Droid Incredible Verizon will add their V Cast app market -- without much fanfare. In fact, it seems as if they didn't want anyone to notice at all. "Verizon Wireless will begin pushing a software update to the DROID Incredible next week. The update includes software enhancements that will pre-install V CAST Apps on the phone. We said earlier this year that we'd be expanding V CAST Apps to the Android platform, and the ...

Verizon has dropped the price of two popular, high-end Android smartphones, the Motorola Droid 2 and HTC Droid Incredible, which may indicate that these models are being phased out to make room for replacements. Both handsets have been decreased from $200 to $150 on contract, and we know for a fact that a more-powerful Droid 2 Global is hitting the carrier this month, although it's unclear if the original Droid 2 will be replaced or remain selling at the lower price. As for the Incredible, it has already seen a somewhat disappointing change when its AMOLED screen became a Super LCD due to ...

Verizon will be releasing a successor to the HTC Droid Incredible -- allegedly called the Incredible HD -- on November 23rd, according to an administrator over at Droid Forums. Apparently this is the same device pictured on BGR in late August, with eight-megapixel, dual-flash camera clearly visible on the backside, along with the increasingly-popular kickstand. The phone is said to have a 4.3-inch screen, which is the same as Motorola's Droid X, and larger than the 3.7-inch display found on the original Droid Incredible. Admin Miami1683 also claims that the so-called Incredible HD features ...

Though the HTC Droid Incredible is a 3G smartphone that operates on Verizon Wireless's CDMA/EV-DO Rev. A network, enterprising users have discovered a hidden menu that can be pulled up through Google Gesture Search that reveals 4G settings on the Android smartphone. It could be, since the Sprint HTC EVO 4G and the Droid Incredible have similar OS builds, the 4G settings could be a carry-over from the Sprint development for WiMax. Another possible theory is that in rolling out the Droid Incredible's Froyo ROM, HTC has been busy working on a 4G LTE phone for Verizon Wireless and the hidden ...

We had previously reported that the Droid Incredible would switch from an AMOLED display to one that uses Super LCD, or SLCD for short, due to Samsung's display shortage. It looks like that the switch had just happened and now the Droid Incredible is shipping from Best Buy with Super LCD in tow. The new Incredibles are also being let out of the gate with Android 2.2 pre-installed on the device. (via: Droid-Life and AndroidSpin)

After several Droid Incredible shortages due to AMOLED screen this year, and with HTC's late July announcement to officially swtich from AMOLED to SLCD due to Samsung's AMOLED shortage we might say we've seen this coming for a while now. With the precedent of the HTC Desire which is now shipping only with SLCD displays, the HTC Droid Incredible is making the switch from AMOLED to SLCD screens according to a pictured note according to which "Customers purchasing a new Droid Incredible starting around late September will have a device with the SLCD screen". While colors on the SLCD are not ...

If the matte black back of the HTC Droid Incredible on Verizon Wireless isn't your thing, you can also grab a first-party official HTC back cover in white or red. We had seen the bright red back cover before on the initial spy shots of the device, though when the Incredible launched Verizon opted for a more muted black back. The back covers aren't on Verizon's site yet, but you can pick them up in stores for $25 a pop. The back cover also displays the "with Google" logo. It was widely believed that the "with Google" designation would mean a stock Android experience sans customizations, but ...

A Samsung executive has reportedly promised a ten-fold increase in AMOLED display production starting in July of next year, when its new facility dedicated to their manufacture will supposedly increase capacity from three million to 30 million screens per month. Lee Woo-Jong, vice president of display marketing, went on to say that he believes that devices using the so-called active-matrix organic light-emitting diode screens will grow by 35 times, to 700 million, by 2015. Samsung builds AMOLED displays for both itself and its competitors, making recent shortages a potential conflict of ...

Although Verizon Wireless had already begun to dispatch its Android 2.2 Froyo update to the HTC Droid Incredible, the upgrade was rolled out OTA in batches. Now, it seems that the upgrade is widely available and users who are comfortable with downloading the update to their PC, transferring it to a micro SDHC card, and installing it manually can do so if they don't want to wait for Verizon to push out the update. The update file is available from Android Central. After downloading, you'll need to rename the file to "update.zip" and then place the file into the root storage of your memory ...

It seems that the endless wait is over, as Verizon has just sent out an official tweet that the Droid Incredible Froyo update begins rolling out today. Engadget reports that besides the usual Android 2.2 features, users will also benefit from pre-installed Adobe Flash 10.1, 720p video recording capabilities, and the same mobile hotspot feature found on ...

The latest tests done by Laptop Mag compares the battery life of some popular Android handsets in the United States, and Verizon Wireless's latest Droid offerings come out on top with the Motorola Droid X taking top honors followed closely by the Motorola Droid 2. They had prepped the phone with these conditions to create as even a playing field as possible: 1. First, we download ...

How important is a brand name? In the context of cellular phones: very, very important. While standing in line at a local amusement park I sent a text to my wife, letting her know where the kids and I were. As I was putting my phone away I heard someone ask "Hey, is that a Droid?" "It's a Nexus One", I replied off the cuff. "Oh, it looks like my Droid," at which point he pulled out his MyTouch 3G. Realizing he meant "Android" and not "Droid", I replied, "Oh, yeah, mine runs Android, too." We then went on to show off our favorite apps and what we wanted for future devices. But it's the ...

It seems like this summer has created a blockbuster of smartphone hits, from AT&T's iPhone 4 to Sprint's HTC EVO 4G and Verizon Wireless's Droid X and Droid Incredible. We, of course, are all too familiar with the Droid Incredible's AMOLED shortage, but what about the other handsets? Recent checks with Apple shows strong demand for the iPhone 4 is keeping the device off shelves and AT&T is only selling that smartphone on a preorder basis even weeks after the phone launched. Sprint is still listing the EVO 4G as out of stock on its online store and urging customers to check their local ...

If you're lucky enough to snag an HTC Droid Incredible on Verizon Wireless before all the persistent shortages due to tight supply of the AMOLED display, you'll be happy to know that your preferred carrier has launched an OTA update that has been hitting some devices. That update brings with it the rumored 720p HD video encoding, essentially a software patch that turns your device's camcorder into an HD shooter. This will make the Droid Incredible more competitive against the HTC EVO 4G on Sprint as well as the Motorola Droid X. There are other additions besides the 720p HD video encoding ...

What operating system runs on Motorola phones? There was a time when Motorola had their own OS than ran their phones. Today that landscape is changing. Today, Motorola is almost exclusively an Android shop. According to John Ellis, director of software and services for Motorola put it this way: "We doubled down on our bets with Google. We're happy about it. Sanjay is raving about it. ... The complexity for us was monstrous. We would have internal development paralysis because we were afraid of breaking anything." (androidguys.com) On this surface, this is a very, very good thing. Looking ...

One of the hottest smartphones and the current flagship phone of Verizon Wireless' Droid series, the HTC Droid Incredible has been in short supply ever since it launched. The shortages have been attributed to Samsung reserving AMOLED production for the Super AMOLED screens used on Sammy's own Galaxy S Android smartphone. The AMOLED display shortage, a major component of the Droid Incredible, has become so bad that HTC is rumored to switch to Super TFT panels manufactured by Sony. For potential customers of the Incredible, Verizon Wireless is giving them the option of switching their orders ...
