The Samsung Droid Charge ships with Android 2.2.1, but will probably get Android 2.3 Gingerbread in an update later this year. Alongside Froyo, Samsung has also integrated the TouchWiz 3.0 user interface. Even though TouchWiz 3.0 debuted last year on the Galaxy S line the user interface is still simple enough for anyone to customize while being graphically pleasing. The similarities between the stock Android UI, which many consumers are accustomed to, and TouchWiz 3.0 will most likely not distract from the usability of Android. With TouchWiz 3.0 come a few widgets that help to unify status ...

In this video we go through the hardware of the new Droid Charge by Samsung running on Verizon's 4G LTE network. The Android 2.2 powered Droid Charge is utilizing hardware similar to what debuted with the Galaxy S line of yesteryear. The Hummingbird processor is operating at 1GHz speed combined with 2GB of ROM and 512MB of RAM give a somewhat snappy feel. The newest innovation in Samsung screen technology, the 4.3 inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus, delivers clear and crisp images. While the difference is negligible to last year's Super AMOLED, the newer Plus version is supposed to produce better ...

The Samsung-made Verizon Droid Charge -- which we just recently unboxed -- is available since last week and it goes for $299.99 with a two-year contract and has full retail price of $569.99. Amazon just upped the ante on the Verizon Droid Charge and it offers a better price for the smartphone beating Verizon by $100. If you haven't already purchased one -- but you intend to do so -- now would be a good time as the Amazon price is $199.99 with a two-year contract. As a reminder, it has a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus Screen, 4G LTE support and Mobile Hotspot capability with up to ten Wi-Fi ...

In this video we unbox the second 4G LTE smartphone for Verizon, the Samsung Droid Charge (SCH-i510). The Droid Charge comes with the basic accessories to get started along with a 32GB microSD Card preinstalled. While the Droid Charge is capable of displaying 720p video via the microHDMI port, there is no cable included. Being a high-end Verizon Droid, the Samsung Charge is also lacking, like the HTC Thunderbold, a stereo headset. Thankfully both of these accessories are available for a reasonable price online. First impressions of the Droid Charge is that it is a hefty device at around ...

Only being available for a couple of days now, the Samsung Droid charge has already received its first (even though minor) update to improve the smartphone and Verizon has started airing the official Droid Charge Launch Commercial. Of course, 4G and LTE are the keywords to watch the ad open with but after the two spheres collide and create the Droid Charge, the Super AMOLED Plus display, the processing power and gaming capabilities are just one touch away. The Samsung-made Verizon Droid Charge is available since Saturday for $299.99 after being last minute delayed and the carrier is already announcing an official update to make the smartphone better (or in this case, remove some functionality). The software update is ED2 and, while bringing nothing major, it improves the Droid Charge from the Media Hub point of view, with two improvements. First of all, it prevents the Media Hub from downloading content over the 3G network. "This application will only work in the 4G network or when using Wi-Fi to ensure quality and speed". Second, a Media ...

Yesterday we told you that Verizon will launch the Samsung Droid Charge today and indeed it is. The smartphone is available on sale as of now and you can find it online at the carrier, unlike last time when it was cancelled (delayed) the last minute. The Samsung-made Verizon Droid Charge goes for $299.99 with a two-year contract and a full retail price of $569.99 but there's free overnight shipping. If you've been waiting for the 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus Screen, 4G LTE support and Mobile Hotspot capability with up to ten Wi-Fi enabled devices, 1GHz processor, eight-megapixel rear camera ...

We were originally expecting Samsung's Droid Charge on Verizon to go up for sale last month, on April 28. The sudden failure of the carrier's LTE network jinxed things, though, and the launch was apparently canceled at the last minute. Once LTE was back up, we started looking for the Charge to reemerge, yet Verizon kept it squirreled away. While some lucky shoppers were able to find employees willing to sell them a pre-release Charge, there didn't seem to be any progress towards an official launch. Now that day is finally here, as Verizon will launch the phone tomorrow, May 14. We've ...

The Verizon Droid Charge did not launch as scheduled probably due to the carrier's LTE outage but even after that got fixed there were some rumors about issues with functionality that prevented it to see the official light of day. Costco was preparing for an initial May 3 launch of the Droid Charge but it looks like right now is on hold. According to the screen capture above, we are all waiting for additional launch updates that are expected to arrive on Monday, May 9. Meanwhile, the product launch is on hold and selling the smartphone is prohibited. We'll probably know more at the ...

Another day, another no-Droid-Charges-up-for-sale. Well, not officially, anyway. Verizon's still getting its ducks in a row following last week's launch that didn't happen, but we've heard about the stray store here and there letting a few go to lucky customers in advance of Verizon giving the go-ahead. Walmart's apparently trying to avoid such incidents with a notice posted for its mobile sales employees, forbidding sales for the time being, noting that Verizon won't support activating the phones due to "an issue with functionality in their system". While claiming that Verizon isn't ...

After aborting the Droid Charge's launch at the last minute, Verizon's been dragging its feet about finally getting the smartphone off the ground. Retailers seemed confused about what to do, as evidenced by the leaked Costco documents we've seen, reflecting an ever-changing release schedule, reports of delays, and uncertainty as to Verizon's plans. It should be no surprise, then, that we're hearing reports of Best Buy stores going ahead with Droid Charge sales ahead of schedule. With inventories already in place at retailers, it's easy to imagine any number of situations where one of these ...

A leaked Costco screenshot from last week made it look like the retailer would be receiving its stock of Samsung Droid Charge 4G smartphones today, with explicit instructions not to start selling any of them until tomorrow, May 3. At the bottom of that shot was a line we largely glossed over, reading, "confirmation of a revised launch date will be sent Monday." Costco was wise to warn its employees to look for an update today, as it now appear that further delays have crept up, and though a new launch date isn't yet available, it's clear that it won't be May 3. Presumably, Costco stores ...

Everyone expected the Verizon Droid Charge to launch last week but an LTE outage seems to have ruined everything. Now that LTE has been restored, it should only be a matter of days until Verizon outs the highly anticipated Samsung Droid Charge. May 3 is the word on the street. According to the screenshot above, Costco will get the smartphone on May 2 and there's a big ugly "do not sell until May 3" flag to make you all wait just one more day. If this info turns out to be accurate, the Verizon Droid Charge will meet its new owners on Tuesday next week and not only via Costco but (it's safe ...

Yesterday, with Verizon LTE service still down, we started getting nervous about the prospects for today's planned launch of the Samsung Droid Charge. While Verizon wouldn't speculate as to what would happen today, company policies certainly gave the impression that, failing an LTE resurrection, anyone looking to buy a Charge today would be out of luck. While the day has started off with no Charge to be found, a newly-restored LTE network means we could end up seeing the phone, after all. Verizon had said that it would not be activating any LTE-capable phones until its LTE network was ...
