Archos may have jumped the gun well ahead of IFA 2016’s official start with a few largely underwhelming low-cost smartphone announcements, but it seems like the French OEM saved the best for last a little closer to the Berlin-hosted trade show. Enter the 55 Diamond Selfie and 50 Saphir handhelds, due out across the old continent in September and October respectively at identical €200 ($223) price points with very different designs and specs in tow. Billed as “unsinkable”, and “the smartphone for all adventures”, the Archos 50 Saphir is hardly what you’d call traditionally ...

Well, it’s that time of the year again. The time lesser-known companies like Archos join Samsung, LG or HTC in unveiling new, mainly budget-oriented gadgets at high-profile tech expos. Unfortunately, after they do, we rarely hear back from Diamonds, Heliums, Cesiums, Powers or Cobalts. But if there was ever an Archos product introduction that warranted a little more than a quick glance over spec sheets, followed by swift dismissal, it’s this year’s pre-MWC announcement of the Diamond 2 Note and Diamond 2 Plus. Like the 70, 80 and 101b Oxygen tablets, these two phablets are set to ...

The iconic One & Company design that HTC had adopted in the Touch Diamond a few years ago may be returning via a third-party case offered by Speck. The GeoMetric case for the iPhone 4 has a geometric pattern on the back that is reminiscent of the HTC Windows Mobile smartphone design. Touch Diamond back (via: iLounge)

If you're sporting the Touch Diamond2, you can now get an official ROM update from HTC that will add Sense 2.5 with all of the cool new features. Click on for the UK English version, or you can change your country with the selector at the top of the screen. There's also a new update for the Touch Pro2, but it doesn't look like Sense 2.5. Enjoy! Thanks for the tip, FRD.

ThrottleLauncher was a rather popular custom UI in 2009, especially earlier in the year, but it's been on hiatus for quite a while. APBilbo, the creator, popped up on XDA-developers today to announce a new, better version and posted a demo of it running on the HTC HD2, Touch2, Diamond and Samsung Omnia. Running on the HD2, it's convincingly smooth and appears to support animated Sense UI-like (Android) widgets. Not much is said of the upcoming release, however, APBilbo states, "between many other improvements, ThrottleLauncher 1.0 uses 3D hardware acceleration with OpenGL (for devices ...

It looks like, if the renderings from Unwired View prove true, that there may be a version of the HTC Diamond3 running Android. The Diamond3, also known as the HTC Obsession, is a Windows Mobile phone and is expected to receive the next-generation Windows Mobile 7 treatment. However, the latest renderings of the device show Android loaded onto the Diamond3, which could potentially mean that HTC may be recycling the same hardware to power two different OSes. There are several questionable items from the Diamond3 rendering that may make it improbable to be true: 1. Hardware buttons: The ...

Bucking the Diamond2's trend for smaller screens when compared to the bigger Touch Pro2 sibling, HTC is rumored to be releasing the leaked Windows Mobile 7 HTC Obsession as the crown jewel of the Diamond family, bestowing it of the Diamond3 moniker. The device is said to have a 3.7-inch touchscreen that is capacitive in nature, will be utilizing AMOLED display technology, and will support multitouch. Resolution was not mentioned in the specs, but the HTC specs sheet--what was leaked, anyways--gave some clear multimedia battery time estimates. This could potentially mean that HTC may be ...
