The Dell Venue Pro could have probably been the most popular Windows Phone if there were no hardware and launch related glitches but still got a 4.5 out of 5 in our review which is among the best scores for a Windows Phone yet. If initially the 16GB variant went for $500 without a contract, Dell is now selling the phone for $299.99 with no commitment. We're not sure whether Dell is trying to boost sales or just trying to get rid of units on stock since it wasn't part of the Windows Phone 7 Mango partner OEMs. Regardless, the Venue Pro is a nice phone to have and $300 for an unlocked ...

Yesterday we got word that the update to finally fix the Dell Venue Pro's WiFi and stability issues would be coming to us next month. As should be no surprise when it comes to updates for Windows Phone 7 devices, the truth turns out to be slightly more complicated, but DVP users should all still be able to get their hands on the update by the end of August. Like we said earlier, some users who are sending their DVPs off for service are getting them back with the new software already on-board, and have given us our first confirmation that it really does seem to work and make the phone's ...

Dell could have had something really special with its Windows Phone 7-running Venue Pro. You can't find hardware like it anywhere else for WP7, and that portrait keyboard might have been just the thing to help Microsoft snag some BlackBerry users. We were soundly impressed with the smartphone when it first arrived, giving it a glowing review last December. That said, after Dell struggled with its efforts to launch the handset, the Venue Pro has been plagued by stability issues and poor WiFi connectivity, somewhat tarnishing its reputation. Half a year later, we're still waiting for Dell to ...

Ever since Android Honeycomb for tablets was announced, those of us with smartphones were a little concerned. Would Android be truly fragmented into different versions based on the size of our screens? Would developers have to write separate apps for each? Our fears were quickly put at ease, Google told us that Android will be re-unified with the version following Honeycomb, the version we now know to be "Ice Cream Sandwich". The primary differences between the tablet-based Honeycomb and the smartphone-based Gingerbread and Froyo are primarily in the UI. There are, however, a lot more ...

With the occasion of today's Windows Phone 7 Mango launch Event, Andrew Lees, president of Microsoft's Mobile Communication Business, has not only confirmed the new hardware partners we posted about but talked about them as a unit. Initial Windows Phone 7 OEMs were HTC, Samsung, LG and Dell with Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE being unveiled today. Of course, Nokia was presented as more than an OEM back in February and referred to the same way today. If you look at the image above, you might be surprised to find out that there's one name missing from the list: Dell. The company had one of the ...

On October 11, 2010, Steve Ballmer on stage announced nine Windows Phone smartphones and we refer to them as being Wave 1 devices. Now, more than 7 months after the Windows Phone event, rumor has it Microsoft will unveil an additional number of nine Windows Phones with the occasion of the May 24 Windows Phone Mango event, according to rumors. An anonymous tipster told WMPowerUser about the plans for tomorrow where Microsoft will allegedly uncover nine smartphones to come out once Mango starts shipping. These Windows Phones are purportedly made by Samsung (four), HTC (two), Dell (one) and ...

It was earlier this year that we came across the Windows Phone 7-powered Dell Venue Pro up for preorder with proper bands to do AT&T 3G (if you recall, the Venue Pro originally shipped with T-Mobile 3G bands). It's now available from Dell's website at an attractive $99 if you sign up for a new two-year on AT&T, or you can get it unlocked for $499. What's more, the AT&T version comes in 8, 16, and 32GB capacities, while the T-Mobile version maxes out at 16GB. We gave the Venue Pro very high marks when we reviewed it back in December of last year, so if you're looking for a stellar entrance ...

The Dell Venue Pro was one of the most anticipated Windows Phone 7 devices to come out but along the way it became the least talked about, especially after all the launch saga came to an end. Back at the end of March we heard that Dell was allegedly preparing another firmware update for the smartphone with no details on fixes or roll-out dates. This own Dell Venue Pro firmware update will allegedly start rolling out on the 18th of May according to an XDA Developers user who contacted Dell Support regarding some of the issues he was experiencing with the device. The smartphone was plagued ...

Existing Windows Phone 7 smartphones feeling a little played-out to you? Anxiously awaiting for the next round of devices to arrive? It looks like several such models are very much real and currently undergoing testing, at least according to the logs one WP7 developer was able to generate of devices used to play his games. Elbert Perez gathered the data from users who have downloaded the apps he's coded for the platform. While the lion's share of the numbers reported come from existing WP7 hardware, a few outliers show that some companies have been testing out their new WP7 smartphones ...

Yesterday we heard about T-Mobile HTC HD7 devices getting the NoDo Windows Phone 7 update but there was no word on the Dell Venue Pro platform refresh until Lionel Menchaca, Chief Blogger for Dell tweeted that the update is coming. In addition to Dell Venue Pro being updated to NoDo "over time starting today", Dell is also allegedly preparing another firmware update for the smartphone "coming later". What the update will bring or fix is yet unknown and we're not quite sure how the update process will be handled with Windows Phone 7 updates coming directly from Microsoft. We'll keep you ...

Yesterday we caught wind of a rumor that T-Mobile would begin distributing the Windows Phone 7 NoDo update to HD7 users sometime today. Without any confirmation at the time, nor a particularly convincing source for the news, we really didn't know what to think and just hoped for the best. Lucky for T-Mobile users, the rumor now appears verified, as the company has started making updates available to not only HD7 users, but Dell Venue Pro owners as well. T-Mobile customers have reported getting both the February pre-NoDo WP7 update, as well as NoDo itself. We hadn't heard of the possibility ...

After numerous delays regarding UK availability for the only slide-up QWERTY Windows Phone 7, the Dell Venue Pro, looks like the European launch saga for the device is over as items should arrive in first stock soon. Our friends over at Clove, the ones who unfortunately were the bad news bearers with all the delays the device experienced, are now announcing on their website that the Venue Pro will be in stock on March 26. The price now for the unlocked device is £420.00 (including VAT) -- which translates to approximately $675. Anyone planning on buying or did all the delays make you turn ...

We were pretty much in love with the Windows Phone 7 Dell Venue Pro after viewing it. It offered very high build quality, fantastic performance, and a great smartphone keyboard to boot. We're quite sure that it's the best Windows Phone 7 launch device to be released thus far. When we heard that Dell would be making a new keyboardless version of the same phone with Google Android, we were quite excited, and it's finally here. The Dell Venue is an Android 2.2 smartphone that runs on T-Mobile's network. It can even do HSPA+ and benefit from 4G-like speeds where available. It's packing a ...

Following up on our unboxing and initial review of the Google Android Dell Venue, we take a closer look at hardware in this video. Like the Windows Phone 7 Venue Pro, the new Venue phone has fantastic build quality. It features a mix of materials like glass, a bit of metal, and different textures of plastic, giving the device a fantastic in-hand feel. Naturally, the quality comes at a price...it's heavy compared to other Android phones. Not only is it heavy, but it's big, thanks to the commanding 4.1" AMOLED screen, which does a great job with contrast and color, especially when compared ...

Next week is the 12th annual CanSecWest conference in Vancouver, BC, focused on digital security. Among the presentations being made is a contest called "Pwn2Own" which targets web browsers and mobile devices. Each contestant has a 30-minute time slot to complete their hacking attempt. A specially-designed RF enclosure will be on-site to allow the use of radio frequency (RF) based hacks that potentially could affect other devices in use at the conference. A video feed will be recorded of the device inside the enclosure and published after the completion of the contest. Four devices are ...
