Update: Thanks to everyone who participated (and for all your helpful comments about what you want to see more -or less- of  from Pocketnow), but the contest is over. Dunzo. No more. While that means that most of you will have to wait for your next chance to win (a wait that might not be too, too long... stay tuned), one of you is walking away from this with a shiny new Ascend Mate2 4G LTE. <drum roll> The Ascend Mate2 4G LTE goes to Pocketnow reader Joshua Robert Cooper. </drum roll> Joshua, check your email for details on collecting your prize. As for the rest of you, ...

Update 5/19/2014: The given time has elapsed, so the answer to the fourth edition of our smartphone guessing game can be found below! Scroll down to see how right (or wrong) you were! When it comes to analyzing the quality of a smartphone's camera, there are two main approaches. There's the guided style: "We had a gander at the new [Smartphone] from the fine folks at [Smartphone Manufacturer], and we took its camera out for a spin to see how it performed under a variety of lighting conditions. When it comes right down to it, this camera is [excellent][great][good][not so good][horrendous] ...

A few days ago, we took a very special smartphone out of its packaging: the Nokia X. It's special not because of its midrange build quality or spec sheet, nor even its fluorescent green paint job. It's special because it's an Android-powered phone built by Nokia – until recently, a mere fantasy among the hardest-core of mobile geeks. Of course it's not all rainbows and sunshine, as we've covered before. But none of that matters, really, because when you're getting a gadget as special as this for free, there really isn't much to complain about. "For free, you say?" you ask, jaw dangling ...

Update 3/20/2014: The stated calendar day has expired, and so the answer to our third monthly smartphone guessing game lies below! Scroll down and be amazed (or not, depending on your guess). Update 3/19/2014: added additional hint. Snow storms have their ups and downs. On the one hand, they keep you from partaking in all the Nokia unboxing fun your comrades in more seasonable climes are enjoying - but on the other, they put you in mind of all the friends you have in the great Arctic North. One such person is friend of the show Nick Gray of HTCSource and Android and Me, who joins us today for a special extended episode taking a long look at all the HTC M8 rumors of the past few weeks. That's followed by the rest of the news, which this week ranges from Galaxy Gear 2 and iPhone 6 speculation to riffing about Android ...

Update: Sorry folks! Due to circumstances beyond our control, we need to reschedule this special appearance. Pocketnow Weekly 083 will go under the mic on Thursday as scheduled, but Evan won't be able to join us. We'll still be announcing our Nexus 5 giveaway winner though, so be sure to tune in! • When we started the Pocketnow Weekly podcast back in July of 2012, it bore little resemblance to its current incarnation. There was no handy list of time codes; the music was built on an aggressive electric-guitar riff that now sounds impossibly cheesy; and subtopics like the "thought ...

Sometimes it's not the promise of saving money, nor the allure of a shiny device that drives you from the warm arms of your current wireless carrier - sometimes it's just a matter of standing up for what you believe in. That's the case with today's podcast guest, friend of the show and longtime Verizon Wireless customer Chris Larson, who's leaving Big Red for the much smaller T-Mobile USA due to Verizon's stance on net neutrality. On this episode of the Weekly, we'll talk to Chris and find out just what he's prepared to sacrifice, and why. Before that, though, there's an avalanche of news ...

A question for you, fellow mobile geeks: do you ever wander over to google.com/nexus5 to behold the splendor of the 2013 Android flagship, soaking in the wonders of its "pure Google" software build and Snapdragon 800 chipset before seeing the $399 price tag and, after nervously eyeing your comically oversized pile of credit card bills, slinking away in disappointed defeat? Don't answer that yet. Here's another question. Have you ever found yourself tempted by the customizability of the Moto X, but been unwilling to make the sacrifice in specs, screen size, and camera performance to choose ...

Contest Update: We're in contact with the winner (Luca from Austria) and are in the process of shipping his Nexus 5 to him. Thanks to everyone who participated in our Nexus 5 giveaway! You know the old saying: sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. Sometimes you're the Louisville Slugger, sometimes you're the ball. Sometimes you're a radio champ, sometimes you make a 90-minute podcast based entirely on leaks and rumors, only to have the subject of those rumors officially unveiled just hours later. Life's rough. Well, this week we're looking to correct that bit of poor ...

It's weird when holidays fall in the middle of the week, because either you're kicking off a long weekend with the special celebration, or you're returning to work the next day with a fuzzy brain, a sunburn, and sand in your hair. We're in the latter situation this week at Pocketnow, the American portion of the team coming down from a day of BBQ and a night of fireworks ... but in our case, it's a good thing. Because today's the day for our weekly mobile tech podcast, and we love us some mobile-tech podcasting. We hope you do, too, because today's Pocketnow Weekly is quite possibly the ...

Sorry for the delay, but we'll have this sorted out one way or the other very soon! And thanks so much for your reviews - they've already given the Weekly quite a shot in the arm, and we appreciate it. It's been a little while since we shared the wealth, and we have a special occasion coming up: episode 050 of the Pocketnow Weekly podcast is just around the corner! We wanted to celebrate our golden anniversary of tech-podcast tomfoolery with a gift to ...

Recently, the good people at Samsung Mobile USA were kind enough to provide us with a spare Galaxy Note II for giveaway purposes, and a giveaway is just what we announced last week. The logistics are now complete, the numbers have been drawn, and the revels are just beginning for ...

The Galaxy S III's barely old enough to warrant an After The Buzz episode, but we're already talking about the Galaxy S IV. In any other venue, that would be a sign of jumping the shark; on the Pocketnow Weekly, it's just business as usual. Tune in for our best speculation on what Samsung might include in its next sensational superphone, from unbreakable screens to bone conduction. Then keep on listening for an extended debate about the merits of Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 versus iOS, drilling down into their UIs and design philosophy. Finally, after some extended talk about how useful ...

The phone/tablet hybrid achieved a 9 out of 10 in our comprehensive review, demonstrated excellent staying power in its recent After The Buzz appearance, and continues to sell well as we head into the holiday season. Last week, we told tales of wireless audio at wineries, sang the praises of our friends at Sonos, and promised a HiFi system to folks willing to listen to the latest episode of the Pocketnow Weekly podcast. Over the past week, we've enjoyed watching the responses come in, and we've been especially heartened to see only a few attempts at "beating the system." Thanks for reinforcing our belief that there really are very few "tools" out there. The logistics are now complete, the numbers have been drawn, and the revels are just beginning for our lucky winner. Please join us in ...

This past Black Friday, I wasn't scrambling for deals at a local Best Buy or Wal Mart; I was recovering from too much turkey and taters. I was enjoying my convalescence from overindulgence at a local winery, whose tasting room featured a sound system of impressive bass and volume. That stereo equipment, I was later to learn, was a Sonos wireless HiFi system: a stereo apparatus that allows one to stream music from internet sources like Pandora, Spotify, iTunes, and a whole host of others to a big 'ole speaker, and control it via an iOS, Android, PC, or Mac device. It's a little slice of the ...
