The original HTC Butterfly helped pave the way for smartphones with 1080p displays in late 2012. Then in mid-2013 we saw HTC release the Butterfly S, outfitting the phone with a more modern SoC, UltraPixel camera, and much larger battery. Now that the One M8 is a reality, will HTC be delivering a corresponding refresh to its Butterfly series? That's what we're thinking about this afternoon, after being made aware of some benchmark data that might just reveal the next Butterfly model. We're looking at HTC's model 0PAJ3, which just like the One M8 is powered by a Snapdragon 801 SoC and ...

Tomorrow, we're looking forward to Sense 6.0 debuting on the all new HTC One; for something that's not yet official, that news is all but certain. OK, but what does Sense 6.0's arrival mean for all the other HTC hardware? What existing devices might be getting Sense 6.0 by means of future updates – and then, when might we hope to see those updates arrive? Well, apparently HTC's current problem with leaks extends far beyond the new One itself, and the latest identifies its plans for bringing Sense 6.0 to last year's One, One Max, and One Mini. The first device to get a Sense 6.0 update ...

HTC broke into the 1080p game last year with the Butterfly, the international version of the Droid DNA. We saw the company follow things up this summer with the Butterfly S, updating the handset's hardware to be more in line with the HTC One. It really felt like that might be it for the Butterfly lineup for a while – until HTC had a new flagship to replace the One, at least. But now we get word that a Butterfly 2 is already in development, with the leak of this new imagery arriving to support the theory. First off, we can see that this phone uses more One-like styling for its capacitive ...

Last year, the J Butterfly kick-started it all. Rumors of a next-generation HTC device had been surfacing around the Web for months, alleging that Verizon would carry HTC's 5-inch super phone, dubbed the DLX (or the HTC Deluxe). Several renders and images of the device had leaked, so we knew there was some truth to the rumors and already had a pretty good idea what the phone would look like. Then, out of nowhere, the J Butterfly was announced for Japan. The leaks showed a device bearing the Verizon branding, so it was fairly obvious the same device (with a few modifications) would come ...

In the food service industry, when you're a server who's been slammed with too many customers and can't keep up with the demand, you're said to be "in the weeds." On a podcast, that same expression means something quite different. It means you've wandered so far from your intended topic (in this case, mobile technology) that you've found yourself in the far-flung wilderness talking about anything but (in this case, sports cars, British accents, and the adult film industry). But while we do spend a fair amount of time in OT land on today's Pocketnow Weekly, we still manage to get some tech ...

We apologize for some technical difficulties we had in uploading today's show. Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about the HTC Butterfly s and what this means to a probable revamp of the HTC Droid DNA. We then talk about Nokia and all their tactics to make their July 11th event relevant. Case designers have also leaked the designs of the iPhone 5S and also the affordable iPhone that's also been rumored. iOS 7 for iPad was also revealed on video for those that were curious. We end today's show talking about the hidden menu in iOS 7 that was recently uncovered, and how this menu ...

I didn't think much of it last year when HTC released the Butterfly alongside the Droid DNA, making up the manufacturer's first round of hardware featuring 1080p displays. After all, Verizon can be a serious prima donna, and if it had its way, it would probably only carry exclusive phones you couldn't get with any other carrier. Anyway, my interest was already turning to those HTC M7 rumors (which would eventually become the One), and that sort of arrangement with the Butterfly and Droid DNA was nothing like we hadn't seen time and time again. But this spring, I was surprised to already be ...

The HTC Butterfly, or Verizon Droid DNA was always a device that we loved, but wished we could love more. Some say that it's due to how close it was launched to the HTC One, and others really didn't enjoy how it performed while being tested. Whatever the case may be, it was clear that the Butterfly always had a steep road to compete even against, and we've all been waiting for a better version to be launched and deal with it's shortcomings. As it turns out, the company has just taken the wraps off the HTC Butterfly s, which is clearly the successor to the HTC Butterfly or Verizon Droid ...

The idea of a new HTC Butterfly model has been floating around for a while now – back in the spring we heard some early talk about just such a model and saw some signs of testing for a DLXPLUS (the first Butterfly was the DLX). The pace sure started picking up this month, and just a few days ago we were able to confirm the Butterfly S name for the handset thanks to an invitation HTC was distributing. It looks like we'll be getting the official news of the phone on June 19, but in the meantime we have what sure appear to be the first images of the Butterfly S to gawk over. The biggest ...

Last week, we fielded a rumor that HTC wasn't quite done with its Butterfly line of Androids, and was planning to release a new Butterfly S as soon as sometime later this month. That's already looking like it could be confirmed, as HTC has apparently begun distributing invitations to a Taiwan launch event scheduled for June 19, a week from Wednesday. It's nice to know that we'll soon get the full story on this phone, because for the moment it's really just one big mystery. At least, from what little we've heard about the hardware, it doesn't sound all that different from the original ...

The HTC One is still the company's flagship, but that hasn't stopped us from hearing rumors about a new Butterfly under development. The first Butterfly model (above), you'll recall, was the first 1080p smartphone and eventually came to the US as the Droid DNA. Back in March we learned that HTC wanted to develop a Butterfly sequel, and later we saw some possible evidence of such a thing, with signs of a model DLXPLUS in testing. Now a rumor is attempting to reveal just when the new Butterfly's launch might take place, and it could be sooner than we were expecting. The next Butterfly could ...
