Of all the new RIM hardware that we've been seeing lately, the Bold 9790 – codename Bellagio - has been one of the most elusive. After seeing it in photographs back in May, it drifted off our radar for a while, only to reappear in late July in some new video clips. Now we have some new pics to check out, comparing the phone against the recently-released Bold 9900, as well as some information on the handset's hardware specs. Like previous models in the 9700 series, the 9790 offers a smaller-form-factor alternative to larger Bolds like the 9900. Not that we'd accuse the 9900 of being an ...

Back at the tail end of May, we got a look at the BlackBerry Bold 9790, and it left us scratching our head a bit. It looked like a refresh of the 9700 line, but weren't sure how it would fit into RIM's plans when placed up against the new models coming out in the 9900 line. We wondered if the smartphone might just be an internal prototype never meant to see the light of day. That suspicion was slightly reinforced when we tried to deduce what the seven BlackBerry models RIM claims it will release this year could be; we could think of more than seven, and others look far more likely to ...

Though we love hearing news on upcoming top-of-the-line hardware, it can be just as rewarding to learn about older smartphones that seem blissfully unaware of their age as they continue to receive updates to the latest software. RIM's BlackBerry Bold 9700 was released all the way back in 2009, but that's not stopping the company from upgrading the smartphone to the modern BlackBerry OS 6.0. Specifically, this release is version 6.0.0.526. BlackBerry users are no strangers to pre-release OS updates leaking early, and the 9700 poses no exception. Three weeks ago, BBOS 6.0.0.534 leaked for ...

Some, like the Charm, stuck on Android 2.1, are clearly ...

Research in Motion is developing an entry-level BlackBerry slider that is said to be "much smaller" than AT&T's Torch 9800, according to BlackBerry Leaks. The site reports that this information comes from the same tipster who correctly leaked the initial overview of a device that would eventually become the Pearl 9105. This individual apparently goes on to say that the handset (mockup pictured above) will be cheaper for carriers than the Bold 9700, which isn't really saying much at all considering that model is currently top-of-the-line on both T-Mobile and AT&T. BBLeaks speculates that ...
