New York City is a fine place to sneak a peek at some unreleased devices, and that's just what we did this week with the LG G3 event (streamed from London to an airy presentation room in a Chelsea skyscraper) and AT&T's ASUS PadFone X announcement (held on a posh rooftop lounge near the Flatiron). At one of those events, Daniel Bader of MobileSyrup was our seat neighbor, so we thought we'd invite him on this week's podcast to discuss the more globally significant of these high-profile launches. Join us as we share our impressions of the LG G3: how it stands on its own and how well it ...

Just about three weeks ago, news first broke of a potentially huge acquisition Apple was pursuing, with word that it would acquire headphone-maker and streaming service-provider Beats for $3.2 billion. While we first heard that confirmation was just a matter of days away, rumors of delays swiftly arrived, as plenty of opinions were offered about just what this buy could mean for Apple, as well as the future of Beats. Well, it took a while for Apple and Beats to iron our the details, but today the purchase goes official, with Apple snatching up both Beats Music and Beats Electronics for ...

There's no denying that Apple doesn't like to follow the rules when it comes to hiring people. Going to an interview for any job at Apple with a suit and a tie is code for not getting the job, and the company has become quite famous for its "lay back" culture requirements. If you thought Apple wanted to buy beats for its technology alone, it seems that things are actually focused on something different. Apple is reportedly interested in bringing "culturally aware" managers from Beats to Apple. Credible sources mention that Apple is more interested in beats for its talent, and not really ...

What exactly qualifies as a "remix?" How deluded do you have to be to believe in all these "Prime" rumors? Why are we so transfixed by the notion of lasers on smartphones, and so easily taken in by a smartphone commercial, if it's shot like a trailer for Inception? We tackle these questions, and the biggest announcement section in the history of the podcast, in episode 096 of the Pocketnow Weekly. No, that's not bragging – it's just an unavoidable symptom of a month packed with unboxings, hands-ons, product launches, and reviews (both forthcoming and already-published). But even in the ...

Apple isn't famous for big company acquisitions, and that's the main reason why many of us were shocked with the news last week that the company was planning to purchase Beats by Dre for $3.2 billion. We've heard rumors that the company plans to revamp its music accessories, and at the same time bring better quality audio to iTunes music, but again these are just rumors. At the moment though, it seems that there is a hurdle that both companies are facing, and we get some details this morning. If you thought that Apple was keeping this acquisition quiet, rumors have it that it's really the ...

Last night word came in that Apple was about to finalize an arrangement that would see the company buy Beats Electronics in a $3.2B deal. This wouldn't be the first time that a smartphone manufacturer got itself involved with Beats, following HTC's investment years back. That deal saw HTC owning as much as 50.1% of Beats at one point, though by 2012 it was already divesting itself of its shares, and last year it finally offloaded its remaining stake. As for this new Apple involvement, we still haven't heard official from the company, but based on what we're seeing from the Beats side of ...

Apple got into music at an early age with iTunes, but lately the trend has been shifting toward streaming music services. What can it do about that? Perhaps buying Beats Electronics may be just the thing. According to a new report from The Financial Times, Apple is in talks with Beats Electronics to allegedly purchase it for $3.2 billion, making the possible deal quite high profile. According to people reportedly familiar with the negotiations, news on it could break at some point next week, though talks are not final. Apple will apparently grab both Beats's audio hardware business, and ...
