We saw some images last week purporting to show off Google's new cross-service, cross-platform messaging system, Babble, and though suspicion has since cast some serious doubt as to their authenticity, the underlying service still seems very much real. Some new details arrive in the latest set of rumors, also suggesting that it could arrive with a slightly different name. Supposedly, what we've been calling Babble is referred to internally at Google as Babel - you know, as in the Tower of Babel, the origin myth for why we have so many different languages. Google gives Android users plenty of ways to keep in touch with each other, but are all those options a problem? They can be if the user you're interested in contacting is running one of them, but not another, and you're having trouble keeping track of where you need to go to contact whom. Recently, there have been rumors that Google was crafting a cross-service messaging platform to help unify all these disparate systems, which would arrive under the name Babble.
