There are fresh reports about some US Cellular upcoming phones. The Samsung ATIV Odyssey got a 7 in our quick review but that doesn't mean it's a bad device. Not at all! US Cellular obviously thinks the same and, according to the render leaked above, the phone will land on the carrier soon. For those who ignored the phone with the occasion of our inspection, here's a reminder of its specs: there's a four-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 SoC, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card), five-megapixel camera, and Windows Phone 8. ...

So far, the Samsung of 2013 has proven much less bombastic than the company we came to know as the king of high-profile mobile unveilings in 2012. While it's no doubt got a surprise or two up its sleeve for MWC next month, it appears that the company lacks either the inclination or the ability to wow us with its first Windows Phone 8 device for the United States. Despite its flashy moniker, the ATIV Odyssey for Verizon Wireless is very much a middle-of-the-road smartphone, in nearly every sense.  Is there anything here to make the Odyssey stand out from the growing legion of mid-range ...

All companies go through rough times. You may not see them financially at first, but it's always a matter of time before the rest of the signs of decline reach their bottom line. We've been worried about Microsoft's performance lately. Whether it's about not being able to deliver compelling products, or having the compelling products not really deliver, it seems that all the corporate genius that was so well put together by Bill Gates is just there to cash a check and be polite. The irony is to have to worry about Microsoft's marketing strategy for Windows Phone. I mean, aren’t they ...

The newest Verizon Wireless smartphone, the ATIV Odyssey, is also the first Samsung-built Windows Phone 8 device to hit an American carrier. That said, it’s not the first ATIV-branded smartphone. That title belongs to the ATIV S, which we reviewed last month. By our count, that leaves two ATIV smartphones nimbly galloping about the globe, and damned if we're not gonna compare 'em. We unboxed the Odyssey yesterday, and today we braved sub-zero temperatures and brutal benchmark blockades to bring you the best in smartphone-comparison footage. In this quick look, we put these devices ...

The ATIV S might've been the star of the show last month, but Samsung still hasn't managed to get the high-end Windows Phone onto U.S. carrier shelves. In its place comes the ATIV Odyssey, a mid-tier model for Verizon Wireless we took a quick look at in Vegas. It's this midrange handset, and not the bigger ATIV S, that lays claim to the title of first Samsung-built Windows Phone 8 device for the U.S. market. Specs are predictably underwhelming, with a 4-inch 800x480 Super AMOLED display, 5MP primary camera, and 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU backed up by a solitary gig of RAM, but there are ...

Last week, we saw a rumor arrive that thought to bring a little more specificity to Samsung's announcement that the ATIV Odyssey, its first Windows Phone 8 smartphone to find a home on a US carrier, would be coming to Verizon "in the coming weeks." According to the claim, the retail launch would actually take place tomorrow, January 24. As the clock started to run down, we wondered if this rumor would actually play out, but with just a day to go, Verizon has finally confirmed the news, announcing that the ATIV Odyssey indeed goes up for sale tomorrow. The phone will be available both in ...

Back at the CES, Samsung announced that the ATIV Odyssey Windows Phone 8 handset for Verizon would be coming to the carrier soon, but it didn't have anything more precise to share than that the phone would be out "in the coming weeks." That was a week and a half ago, so just when is the phone going to get here? According to a new rumor, the ATIV Odyssey should begin shipping in just one more week, on Thursday, January 24. This info comes courtesy of very reliable tipster evleaks, who also brought us yesterday's leaked render of the HTC M7. With no easy way to get an ATIV S in the US (at ...

This year's Consumer Electronics Show from Las Vegas has come and gone. As usual, we've been both on-site bringing you coverage from events as well as the show floor, and here on Pocketnow, keeping you up to date with what's going on in the mobile world. For some the show has been excellent; for others it has been a letdown. We can't compare CES to a specialized mobile event like MWC (maybe with IFA); still, our experience from past years has taught us to expect certain things to happen at CES. They might or might not have happened in a straightforward way but there was a lot of innovation ...

Veni, vidi, vici! We were looking forward to CES 2013, pretty much like we're always looking forward to trade shows where there's a possibility of seeing new and exciting things from and related to the mobile world. Good or bad as it was, this year's Vegas show is just one of many to come and, probably the biggest problem related to CES is the fact that it is followed shortly by MWC, a show related to mobile and only mobile. We're seeing companies slowly moving away from shows to announce their gadgets, following Apple's lead, but even those companies who are show-centric have probably ...

"The Snowball, the 6-Inch Mate, & the In-N-Out Experience." Samsung's Windows Phone 8 smartphone have been a long time coming, and after a no-show at the platform's launch, we finally saw the manufacturer's ATIV S arrive last month. That's not the only ATIV we were waiting for, though, and just yesterday Samsung got around to announcing Verizon's ATIV handset, the ATIV Odyssey. At the 2013 CES in Las Vegas, we had an opportunity to check out the new WP8 phone in person. The ATIV S is just a bit lower-end than models like the Lumia 920, only offering a four-inch WVGA display. Despite that, it's got a speedy enough 1.5GHz dual-core SoC, so if you're ...

We're on a bit of a Windows Phone roll this evening, and we've got one more entry to help keep things moving. You might remember that last fall we heard about Samsung's ATIV Odyssey, and even got to check out some early press renders, but besides knowing that the phone would be coming to Verizon, we didn't have any details on it. Today Samsung has gone ahead and made the ATIV Odyssey official, finally spelling-out just what we can expect. The ATIV Odyssey feels like it's more to the mid-range of Windows Phone 8 devices, with a four-inch WVGA AMOLED screen, five-megapixel main camera, and ...

Steve Ballmer, while on stage at the October 29 Windows Phone 8 event, unveiled a certain Samsung ATIV Odyssey without giving us much details though, aside from the named of the carrier --Verizon-- and the disclaimer that it was coming in December. We've seen Big Red start its Windows Phone 8 pre-orders but the ATIV Odyssey was not part of the line-up. The image above represents the first look at Samsung's Windows Phone variant for Verizon. The model number is SCH-I930 but we don't know much about the device, except for that LTE signal on the top left, hinting 4G LTE radio capability. The ...

A couple days back, AT&T shared the details of how its first Windows Phone 8 handsets would arrive, with pre-orders opening yesterday and outright sales beginning tomorrow. Not content to let AT&T get all the attention, Verizon is now coming through with some launch details of its own. The first two WP8 models to land at Verizon will be the HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 822. While the carrier isn't saying when either will actually arrive with any more specificity than "sometime before Thanksgiving", pre-orders for both models will begin early tomorrow morning. The 16GB HTC 8X will sell ...
