Every now and then we run a couple of hardware hacks besides all those software bits you are used to reading on our site, from the good old days of our own Adam Lein’s custom-painted HTC Touch Diamond. How cool would a T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G look with polished chrome bezel and backplate? This good!
On one hand, we’d say “if Paul White managed to do it, so could you” but on the other hand it’s pretty risky as there’s really no turning back. At the end of the day, it’s really up to you what you do to your phone but an HTC Sensation 4G [...]
HTC recently updated owners of the Sensation, Sensation 4G on T-Mobile, and EVO 3D, informing them that its progress towards releasing unlocked bootloaders for their phones was coming along nicely, and that it’s currently testing the software updates in anticipation of an August or early September release. If patience isn’t your strong suit, we’ve got a treat for you today, with the announcement of an unofficial unlock for the Sensation’s bootloader.
Team AlphaRevX demoed the code setting the Sensation’s flash to S-OFF, opening it up for full write [...]
Good news for HTC Android smartphone users, at least for those who own a Sensation, Sensation 4G or EVO 3D as the Taiwanese manufacturer announced that it will be unlocking bootloaders next month.
There was quite a story behind the HTC Android bootloaders with the manufacturer promising an unlock and then updating on the status, telling the world they’re working on the issue. More recently HTC announced on its Facebook page that it will be rolling out software updates for the HTC Sensation, the T-Mobile variant (the Sensation 4G) and the Sprint EVO 3D. These updates will [...]
Regardless if you have a “limited edition” white EVO 3D or just your regular one that does or does not overheat, you can now overclock the phone and then put it to the test against the Galaxy S II.
Since the EVO 3D and the Sensation are so close in terms of internals, the overclocking is reportedly applicable to both. With a custom kernel it was possible to overclock the EVO 3D to an insane 1.8GHz and get great results in benchmark apps demoed in the video above. Since the developer doesn’t have a Pyramid to test with, it is currently only available for the [...]
A leaked updater for the HTC Sensation showed up late last month, foretelling the arrival of a proper OTA distribution. That day is finally upon us, with system software 1.35.401.1 heading out to non-carrier-branded Sensation owners in Europe.
The 27MB update isn’t anything groundbreaking, and doesn’t bring any anticipated updates like a move to Android 2.3.4 or some progress towards unlocking the smartphone’s bootloader. Instead, you’ll find this to be a general maintenance update, with a smattering of bugfixes for problems you may not have even noticed [...]
We gave the HTC Sensation high marks in terms of hardware; not surprising, as HTC builds devices with fantastic build quality. But after about a month of use, we might have to reconsider the build quality of the Sensation. It turns out that if you have a nervous habit of removing the back battery cover, the volume rocker of the Sensation might fall out, as happened to us. Worse, we don’t know where exactly the volume rocker fell out, so we’re left with an inoperable volume switch (only usable if you find a key or paper clip to press the inset buttons). Has anyone else had [...]
HTC’s uber phone for 2011, the HTC Sensation, is currently available in the US as the Sensation 4G on T-Mobile. The Sensation has Qualcomm’s new dual-core 1.2GHz CPU with 768MB of RAM, and a spacious 4.3″ qHD display. It’s also available overseas in unlocked form. Until now, you couldn’t get a Sensation that works on AT&T’s 3G (and 4G, with HSPA+) network. Over at Negri Electronics, an AT&T-compatible Sensation is available for a pricey $700. We don’t see it as likely that AT&T will get the Sensation in its current form, so this [...]
Here’s how the story goes: Nokia launches the N9 MeeGo smartphone with eight-megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics to later show off a couple of (amazing) samples as well as a comparison according to which the camera is the fastest on the market.
Probably offended by the fact that Nokia is not up to date with the latest and greatest HTC smartphone (or that the HD7 was the slowest on the chart), the Taiwanese manufacturer strikes back on Twitter. “The HTC Sensation‘s camera is the quickest draw in the West (and East, and South and North…)”, says [...]
A couple of days ago we told you that the HTC-made Sprint EVO 3D has been rooted but the tools were not made public yet. Since the HTC Sensation and the EVO 3D have similar internals, the tools are supporting both smartphones and have now gone public.
These are Fre3vo and Fre3dom. Fre3vo is a temp-root acquiring tool, allowing users access to a root shell on their HTC EVO 3D and Sensation devices. Fre3domis the name of the tool being developed to enable S-OFF on the EVO 3D and Sensation. Fre3vo is already available if you follow the source link where you’ll find links, [...]
The HTC Sensation is the Taiwanese manufacturer’s current (non-3D) flagship smartphone and even though it got “only” 4.5 stars out of 5 in our review — compared to the Samsung Galaxy S II which maxed out — it’s still a great Android smartphone to own this summer, and it’s coming to Canada.
According to MobileSyrup’s sources, the HTC Sensation will arrive to Canada as early as July being a Bell Canada exclusive. There’s no word on how long that exclusivity will last as there’s no info on exact date and pricing but [...]
We’ve been getting a lot of requests for a comparison between the Galaxy S 2 (review) and the HTC Sensation, and here it is! Both of these devices represent the cutting edge for smartphones: they have plenty of RAM, dual-core CPUs, special screens, and custom interfaces that are well designed. In terms of pricing and availability, the Sensation is coming to the US as the T-Mobile Sensation 4G and will sell for around $199, but right now you can import one for about $750. The Galaxy S 2 has yet to be announced for the US, but we think it’s coming to AT&T, Sprint, and [...]
After finding the hardware to be typical-HTC (high quality, a bit of the same), we now take a much closer look at the software offering on the HTC Sensation, which comes packed with a lot of Sense 3.0 goodies.
The fun starts on the home screen, where HTC now gives you the ability to not only launch one of four apps without unlocking your phone, but you can also change the background of the lock screen to reflect the weather, stocks, social networks, photos on your device, or it can just display a simple clock. While we’re excited to see the lock screen have some [...]
Following up on our unboxing of the super-hot HTC Sensation, we take a closer look at the hardware of the phone in this video. Not surprisingly, the Sensation has the now iconic HTC look: it has the chrome earpiece, rounded edges along all four corners, and capacitive buttons below the screen. What makes the Sensation a bit different than other HTC devices is the contoured glass that features concave edges all around the screen. While the special glass adds no functionality to the device, it looks and feels nice.
The HTC Sensation is a powerhouse on paper. It’s packing [...]
The HTC Sensation is a very big deal for HTC, and for smartphone enthusiasts. It represents HTC’s flagship for 2011, and with it comes several firsts. It’s the first shipping HTC phone to pack a dual-core CPU, what’s more, it’s the official debut of Qualcomm’s dual-core Snapdragon CPU, which clocks at 1.2GHz, just like the Exynos chip found on the Samsung Galaxy S 2. It’s also HTC’s first phone to go beyond WVGA 800×480 resolution; the Sensation has a qHD display, making for 960×540 pixels. The Sensation is coming to T-Mobile later in [...]
We knew right from the beginning that U.K. carriers, Orange, Three, and T-Mobile, will start offering the HTC Sensation in the weeks following the Vodafone launch. The “multimedia superphone” was listed as shipping from Vodafone U.K., and SFR France for that matter, a couple of days ago, on May 19, and now we get (vague) info on Three U.K.’s plans regarding the smartphone.
According to a recent Three U.K. tweet, the HTC Sensation will not be part of the line-up “till June”. Unfortunately June has 30 days and no info regarding which part of the month [...]
HTC has released the user guide for the its upcoming flagship handset, the HTC Sensation. A must read for anyone planning on picking up this dual-core, qHD beast, the manual is a 200-page mini-Bible with typical HTC thoroughness and plenty of screenshots, along with insight into Sense 3.0 and day-to-day operation in general.
Released yesterday in Europe and today in South Korea on SK Telecom, Sensation will hit the US early next month as the Sensation 4G on T-Mobile, where it will offer a theoretical 21Mbps download speed over the carriers HSPA+ network. Sensation was rumored [...]
Last week we told you that French carrier SFR has delayed the HTC Sensation launch “due to a recent software update made by HTC” but we speculated that it might have something to do with the UK launch which is supposed to happen tomorrow, May 19.
Miraculously, SFR has updated the status of the HTC Sensation in France and guess what? It will be available starting tomorrow, May 19 too. We’re not saying that SFR published the wrong information — deliberately or not — we’re just saying that we had a hunch that France will not see the Sensation [...]
HTC Sense 3.0 was introduced on the HTC Sensation and it will be featured on the “multimedia superphone” as well as on the T-Mobile Sensation 4G variant, the Sprint EVO 3D and hopefully on upcoming qHD superphones like the Kingdom and Holiday.
Among the great features introduced by HTC Sense 3.0, the HTC-made user interface replacement brings, in its latest version, 18 splendid weather animations. If you have an HTC Windows Phone 7 smartphone you might be familiar with some of these but if you haven’t seen any of them, check out the video below and let us know [...]
We’re eagerly anticipating the arrival of HTC’s flagship for this year. The HTC Sensation will begin shipping overseas in a few weeks, while those in the US will have to wait a big longer for the release of the Sensation 4G on T-Mobile. With a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2GHz CPU, plus 768MB of RAM, and a 4.3″ qHD display, the Sensation ranks as HTC’s highest-spec’ed phone yet. We’re starting to see a glimpse of how the Sensation is going to be priced thanks to a photo of a display for the phone or Target stores. Priced at $199.99, or $549 with [...]
The HTC Sensation — we’ve got the latest ROM leak as well as the manufacturer’s recent promo video about the smartphone — should have been available yesterday, May 12, on SFR in France but that didn’t happen as the carrier updated about the delay.
Currently there’s not much info we can hang on to but according to SFR, the smartphone has been delayed “due to a recent software update made by HTC”. The new date is yet to be confirmed by HTC themselves but according to the French carrier, people shouldn’t expect it to hit before [...]
Still almost a week until Vodafone UK will start shipping the pre-ordered HTC Sensation smartphones on May 19 and even though we already had an HTC Pyramid Test ROM leak in the past, this time it appears to be the final ROM that’s been made public.
The file name to look for is RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.24.401.1_Radio_10.39.9007.00P_10.11.9007.09_M2_release_190934_ signed.exe and should contain all the goodies like HTC Sense 3.0 on top of Android 2.3 Gingerbread with which the HTC Sensation ships. ROM Developers can get their hands dirty and the rest of us cross our fingers [...]
Despite being headquartered in neighboring Taiwan, HTC has had a minimal presence in China up until recently, with the world’s largest market usually being denied cutting-edge handsets. That has started to change recently, first with a rebranded Incredible S, and now, it seems, with the Wildfire S — apparently headed to China Telecom — and flagship HTC Sensation, which appears destined for China Mobile.
These models will likely receive slight makeovers and new model numbers for these Chinese operators, although specs and basic functionality should remain [...]
HTC’s Sensation 4G showed up at the FCC earlier this week as model PG58100. There was some confusion at the time, with many identifying the phone as the Doubleshot, instead. Today, new FCC filings show another HTC phone, this time model PG58130, and actually emblazoned with “HTC Sensation” on its FCC label. Were we wrong? Was the first phone the Doubleshot, after all? No; the PG58XXX series is what we know as the Sensation, and the variances in model numbers are just regional editions of the same phone.
Today the WiFi Alliance published its own certification [...]
