We know that CyanogenMOD for the HTC Sensation was in the works -- together with the one for the LG Optimus 3D -- and since the Sensation and the EVO 3D share so much in common, the first Alpha has landed and is now available for both Taiwanese devices. Heading over to the source links below you will land on a thread with description, instructions and feedback for the first Alpha releases of CyanogenMOD dedicated for the HTC Sensation and the EVO 3D. Since it's an Alpha release, there will be plenty of bugs but if that doesn't bother you -- or you just wish to get away from stock -- you ...

Yesterday saw attention return to the issue of how companies use your smartphone to gather data about you and your activities, with news of a lawsuit accusing Microsoft of surreptitiously gathering location data. HTC looks like it's the next one to take the hot seat, after the discovery that recent updates to the EVO 3D and Sensation have the smartphones recording a host of information about your phone's status. Under the guise of "User Behavior Logging", the new software for the HTC pair looks at things such as what apps you've installed, which you've been using, and builds statistics ...

Recently we reported on HTC's apparent "spying" on users with a recent update to the EVO 3D and Sensation. According to a report, HTC has responded to these charges: "We've seen some questions about Sensation and Evo 3D and want to provide more information. HTC, like most manufacturers, has an opt-in error reporting function built in to our devices. If your phone experiences an error, you have the option of "Telling HTC" so we can make improvements to our phones. Details about this are in our privacy policy on each device and in order for data to be collected, you have to opt-in. If you do ...

HTC showcased its commitment to bringing high-quality to smartphones earlier this month with the announcement of its partnership with Beats by Dr. Dre. We learned that future HTC handsets would be paired up with Beats gear; the HTC Runnymede we just saw some full specs for looks like it will be among the first of those models, including a pair of Beats headphones. The next might be what a leak is calling the HTC Sensation Special Edition 2, bringing some boosted hardware specs along with the Beats audio. This SE model would supposedly make the leap from a dual-core 1.2GHz SoC to a 1.5GHz ...

HTC returned to the issue of locked bootloaders on its smartphones earlier this month, explaining just how the process of going about unlocking your phone will work. At the time, it said that owners of the Sensation, Sensation 4G, and EVO 3D would get their opportunity to do so sometime this month. As of now, the tools are live on HTC Dev, but there's a pretty big restriction that could seriously hamper your ability to unlock your handset. For the time being, if you want to throw caution to the wind, give up your warranty coverage, and embark down the road of unlocking, your HTC smartphone ...

The HTC Sensation (that is sans 4G, as in the unlocked version not the T-Mobile one) is shipping with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out-of-the-box but the manufacturer has started the European roll-out of an official update, according to reports. After the update notification, download and installation process, the HTC Sensation is now reportedly updated to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. The update is a 41MB file and it bumps the version all the way to 1.45.401.2. The first phone that is purportedly updated to the new version is in Germany but if you live in Europe and already have the update, let ...

After CyanogenMod recently added support for the Samsung Galaxy S II, two new recent and higher-end phones will join the party as custom ROMs are in the works for both the HTC Sensation and the LG Optimus 3D. The two screenshots above were posted on Google+ by CyanogenMod developers Ricardo Cerquiera and Ed Carrigan. As you can see, Android 2.3.4 is in for the two phones and, even if it's not a huge step for Pyramid users, it will be great news for Optimus 3D owners as the phone is shipping with Android 2.2 Froyo. The builds are still cooking so don't expect to flash in the coming days; ...

Every now and then we run a couple of hardware hacks besides all those software bits you are used to reading on our site, from the good old days of our own Adam Lein's custom-painted HTC Touch Diamond. How cool would a T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G look with polished chrome bezel and backplate? This good! On one hand, we'd say "if Paul White managed to do it, so could you" but on the other hand it's pretty risky as there's really no turning back. At the end of the day, it's really up to you what you do to your phone but an HTC Sensation 4G that looks like the one pictured above will definitely ...

HTC recently updated owners of the Sensation, Sensation 4G on T-Mobile, and EVO 3D, informing them that its progress towards releasing unlocked bootloaders for their phones was coming along nicely, and that it's currently testing the software updates in anticipation of an August or early September release. If patience isn't your strong suit, we've got a treat for you today, with the announcement of an unofficial unlock for the Sensation's bootloader. Team AlphaRevX demoed the code setting the Sensation's flash to S-OFF, opening it up for full write access. Right now, it's only working on ...

Good news for HTC Android smartphone users, at least for those who own a Sensation, Sensation 4G or EVO 3D as the Taiwanese manufacturer announced that it will be unlocking bootloaders next month. There was quite a story behind the HTC Android bootloaders with the manufacturer promising an unlock and then updating on the status, telling the world they're working on the issue. More recently HTC announced on its Facebook page that it will be rolling out software updates for the HTC Sensation, the T-Mobile variant (the Sensation 4G) and the Sprint EVO 3D. These updates will already contain ...

Regardless if you have a "limited edition" white EVO 3D or just your regular one that does or does not overheat, you can now overclock the phone and then put it to the test against the Galaxy S II. Since the EVO 3D and the Sensation are so close in terms of internals, the overclocking is reportedly applicable to both. With a custom kernel it was possible to overclock the EVO 3D to an insane 1.8GHz and get great results in benchmark apps demoed in the video above. Since the developer doesn't have a Pyramid to test with, it is currently only available for the EVO 3D and you can read more at ...

A leaked updater for the HTC Sensation showed up late last month, foretelling the arrival of a proper OTA distribution. That day is finally upon us, with system software 1.35.401.1 heading out to non-carrier-branded Sensation owners in Europe. The 27MB update isn't anything groundbreaking, and doesn't bring any anticipated updates like a move to Android 2.3.4 or some progress towards unlocking the smartphone's bootloader. Instead, you'll find this to be a general maintenance update, with a smattering of bugfixes for problems you may not have even noticed were there. There's no changelog ...

We gave the HTC Sensation high marks in terms of hardware; not surprising, as HTC builds devices with fantastic build quality. But after about a month of use, we might have to reconsider the build quality of the Sensation. It turns out that if you have a nervous habit of removing the back battery cover, the volume rocker of the Sensation might fall out, as happened to us. Worse, we don't know where exactly the volume rocker fell out, so we're left with an inoperable volume switch (only usable if you find a key or paper clip to press the inset buttons). Has anyone else had this hardware ...

HTC's uber phone for 2011, the HTC Sensation, is currently available in the US as the Sensation 4G on T-Mobile. The Sensation has Qualcomm's new dual-core 1.2GHz CPU with 768MB of RAM, and a spacious 4.3" qHD display. It's also available overseas in unlocked form. Until now, you couldn't get a Sensation that works on AT&T's 3G (and 4G, with HSPA+) network. Over at Negri Electronics, an AT&T-compatible Sensation is available for a pricey $700. We don't see it as likely that AT&T will get the Sensation in its current form, so this particular model might be your only opportunity to get the ...
