Wow. Such yuneeq. Very metale. Fone.
I’m basically just using this as an excuse to attack every manufacturer going with the same and the same and the same after so many years of sticking with these aluminium chassis or even slapping a couple panes of Gorilla Glass onto them. It’s what we praise as “beautiful fit-and-finish” with great “feel in hand.” Every. Single. Time. And we’re not just talking about the iPhone and HTC, here; even when the build poses a risk to its own integrity — OnePlus X, you’re a real special case — we will [...]
If you’ve got one of the “older” HTC Sensations and wanted to breathe a little new life into it, why not throw on a new camera app?
This app does require that you’re running an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich-based ROM, but by flashing it through ClockworkMod Recovery you’ll unlock the following super-cool features:
+ Ability to record uncompressed video and audio + Record video in 1080p at 20mbps + Provides increased video recording quality + Better JPG images + Bigger cap on image filesizes
Sound like something you’d [...]
This time last month, we had just gotten word about HTC’s plans for the white Sensation, which would arrive with Ice Cream Sandwich already installed. We noted at the time how odd it seemed that the image HTC had released showed the phone on an older version of Sense, instead of the Sense 4.0 we’d expect. With the white Sensation released, and OTA updates to existing Sensation-series phones starting to trickle out, it’s now apparent that HTC is delivering Ice Cream Sandwich updates with Sense 3.6.
This is understandably disappointing news for Sensation owners, [...]
As we start to get into mid-February, there are probably a lot of you out there wondering where all the Ice Cream Sandwich updates for your existing Android phones are. After all, weren’t we hoping to see these releases really start arriving in early 2012? The good news is that the wait is nearly over, at least for some HTC users. The smartphone manufacturer posted a message to Facebook this morning talking about plans for the delivery of its first Ice Cream Sandwich updates in March.
We already knew about HTC’s plans to start selling phones running Android 4.0 in [...]
Besides “don’t download apps from sketchy sources”, one of the big rules of keeping your Android device safe is “think carefully about approving app requests for system permissions”. That latter one can be tricky to encourage, since it requires the user to do a bit of critical thinking at the time of installation; does that Sudoku-solving app you downloaded really need the ability to send SMS messages? The idea is, though, that if you are smart about granting permissions, you can stop malicious apps from taking advantage of you. Sometimes it’s not [...]
Back in November HTC told its users about initial plans to deliver the Ice Cream Sandwich update to some of its devices. These were the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G.
HTC Turkey seems to have taken to Facebook a table (the one above) detailing devices that will get the new Android update as well as an approximate time for the roll-out process. Aside from a confirmed December 2011 date for the EVO 3D (which seems to be late), the list says January will be the month to expect the [...]
Yesterday we told you about the arrival of a new ROM for the HTC Sensation, one that would give the phone’s owners an early taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, while keeping the HTC look-and-feel with the inclusion of Sense 3.5. We only gave you a brief look at it then, but by now Sensation users have been able to dive into the release, documenting it by means of screenshots. If you’ve been on the fence about flashing the ROM, or just weren’t lucky enough to have the right HTC hardware to check out, now you can at least browse through the imagery below to get a sense of what [...]
HTC has promised an Android 4.0 upgrade to owners of the HTC Sensation, Sensation XL, Sensation XE, Rezound, EVO 3D, EVO 4G Design 4G, and Amaze 4G. But for those that can’t wait, you can now install a ROM that merges HTC Sense 3.5 with Ice Cream Sandwich for the HTC Sensation that is based on an official test build of ICS for Sense. Those that have flashed the ROM are reporting that most everything is working. Hit the source link to grab the ROM.
HTC Android fans who are into some serious phone customization are coming home to some good news tonight, with HTC releasing the kernel source code to over half-a-dozen devices. The arrival of these code bases means that you might hope to see some new custom ROMs start arriving in the coming weeks. Just what models are covered?
First up, we’ve got the HTC Vivid, which came to AT&T early last month. Next we have the Salsa, one of the two HTC models featuring a hardware Facebook button (alongside the ChaCha). Both the original Incredible and its follow-up, the [...]
If you have a European HTC Sensation you probably already received an over-the-air update notification (and if not, you might need to manually check for a refresh from your Settings). HTC is pushing out a 1.50.401.1 update which contains some goodies.
From Evgeni Pavlov, Product Manager at HTC Russia, we find out what the update is all about: “Twitter API, Qualcomm patch, Touch pannel drivers, Market v.3 apps availability”. If you’re a Twitter fan, the new API update should make sure your online experience is flawless while the Qualcomm patch and touch panel [...]
Many HTC Sensation owners have reported problems with music playback cutting out or songs skipping or pausing at random.
The problems seem to all be related to headphone use. They don’t happen when headphones aren’t used. This was the clue to the root of the problem — actually two problems.
If you’ve experienced these issues, take a look at your headphone-jack. Do you see any little chips or scratches around it? That’s your problem.
The design of the HTC Sensation allows your headphones to constantly “touch” the cover. [...]
HTC’s flagship for 2011 is the Sensation. It will see many variants on many carriers, and for some time it will be revered as a benchmark device against which all other smarpthones will be compared. HTC went to great lengths to make sure the Sensation would provide enough power, functionality, and capability to appease even the most demanding smartphone users. The Sensation comes with Qualcomm’s brand new dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon chip, plus a high-resolution qHD display, providing 960×540 pixels. And with that, HTC is debuting its new Sense 3.0 Android interface, [...]
European versions of the HTC Sensation are getting over-the-air update notifications which probably have to do something with the recently discovered vulnerabilities for which HTC is believed to be the culprit.
At the beginning of October it has been discovered that any application requesting Internet permission is able to access sensitive data due to HTC’s HtcLoggers.apk. The manufacturer admitted to the existence of the vulnerability and promised a quick fix.
The description of the 9MB update doesn’t mention anything related to the issue but contains only [...]
We’ve been tracking the HTC Runnymede for a while now, and even came across its retail branding as the Sensation XL. Now official, the new Android 2.3 handset from HTC packs a large 4.7″ Super LCD display that packs 800×480 resolution, just like the Windows Phone 7-based Titan. Also like the Titan, it has a single-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm CPU. And similar to the Sensation XE, the XL has Beats by Dre integration, which is a fancy way of saying that you get high-quality headphones in the box, plus some software to make music sound better. Check out the below videos for a [...]
Security is becoming an issue more and more on phones running Google’s Android platform. The rule of thumb usually is that there is either a platform vulnerability which is usually fixed by Google or there are malware-infected apps in the Android Market which are eventually deleted by Google (both from the Market and off devices).
The recent vulnerability seems to be HTC’s fault; apparently there’s a huge security flaw which affects Android phones manufactured by the Taiwanese phone-maker (U.S. models only according to some reports). Models believed to be [...]
The HTC Runnymede will launch as the HTC Sensation XL, according to a reliable source, and not the HTC Bass, as previously rumored. It will allegedly come in two Beats Audio-themed bundles: one with iBeats earbuds and another, special, edition containing over-the-ear Beats Solo headphones.
The supposed branding here is somewhat interesting because, unlike the Sensation XE, Runnymede’s specs differ significantly from the original Sensation’s: its rumored single-core, 1.5GHz processor and 4.7-inch screen make it sound more akin to the HTC Titan Windows Phone than the [...]
We know that CyanogenMOD for the HTC Sensation was in the works — together with the one for the LG Optimus 3D — and since the Sensation and the EVO 3D share so much in common, the first Alpha has landed and is now available for both Taiwanese devices.
Heading over to the source links below you will land on a thread with description, instructions and feedback for the first Alpha releases of CyanogenMOD dedicated for the HTC Sensation and the EVO 3D. Since it’s an Alpha release, there will be plenty of bugs but if that doesn’t bother you — or you just [...]
Yesterday saw attention return to the issue of how companies use your smartphone to gather data about you and your activities, with news of a lawsuit accusing Microsoft of surreptitiously gathering location data. HTC looks like it’s the next one to take the hot seat, after the discovery that recent updates to the EVO 3D and Sensation have the smartphones recording a host of information about your phone’s status.
Under the guise of “User Behavior Logging”, the new software for the HTC pair looks at things such as what apps you’ve installed, which [...]
Recently we reported on HTC’s apparent “spying” on users with a recent update to the EVO 3D and Sensation.
According to a report, HTC has responded to these charges:
HTC showcased its commitment to bringing high-quality to smartphones earlier this month with the announcement of its partnership with Beats by Dr. Dre. We learned that future HTC handsets would be paired up with Beats gear; the HTC Runnymede we just saw some full specs for looks like it will be among the first of those models, including a pair of Beats headphones. The next might be what a leak is calling the HTC Sensation Special Edition 2, bringing some boosted hardware specs along with the Beats audio.
This SE model would supposedly make the leap from a dual-core 1.2GHz SoC to [...]
The list of HTC smartphones that can be “officially” unlocked is increasing, though not as fast as some would like.
Today HTC updated their list, which now includes Sprint‘s Evo 3D, T-Mobile‘s Sensation 4G, and HTC Sensation models for Europe, Turkey, Arabic, and Bouygues Telecom.
If you’ve got one of these phones and have been waiting to unlock it, wait no longer! Head over to HTCdev.com and enjoy your new-found freedom!
HTC returned to the issue of locked bootloaders on its smartphones earlier this month, explaining just how the process of going about unlocking your phone will work. At the time, it said that owners of the Sensation, Sensation 4G, and EVO 3D would get their opportunity to do so sometime this month. As of now, the tools are live on HTC Dev, but there’s a pretty big restriction that could seriously hamper your ability to unlock your handset.
For the time being, if you want to throw caution to the wind, give up your warranty coverage, and embark down the road of unlocking, [...]
The HTC Sensation (that is sans 4G, as in the unlocked version not the T-Mobile one) is shipping with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out-of-the-box but the manufacturer has started the European roll-out of an official update, according to reports.
After the update notification, download and installation process, the HTC Sensation is now reportedly updated to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. The update is a 41MB file and it bumps the version all the way to 1.45.401.2. The first phone that is purportedly updated to the new version is in Germany but if you live in Europe and already have the [...]
