Nokia, a Finnish smartphone company was founded in 1871. What started as a paper manufacturing company evolved into one of the worlds largest and well known names in the mobile device market. Nokia currently works mostly with smartphones and mobile software. In early 2011 the company's new CEO, Stephen Elop signed a strategic partnership with Microsoft where Microsoft will gain access to Nokia's mobile services such as Ovi Maps and Nokia would adopt Windows Phone 7 as an operating system for their new smartphones over the company's own Symbian OS. Last month, T-Mobile announced the crazy-low "I can't believe that's for a smartphone" price for the Nokia Lumia 521, which is selling for a mere $150, free of contractual obligation. At the time, we got the scoop on early HSN sales, as well as the phone's eventual arrival at Walmart and Microsoft retail stores. That was exciting news, but it wasn't quite the whole story of the 521's launch. Today we fill in a few missing bits, as availability of the 521 really starts taking off. We already knew Microsoft was getting the 521 on May 11, but since then the phone's pricing has become ...

Remember when Windows Phone was in its infancy and we were optimistic that Microsoft might be able to mitigate the sort of problems Android faced with OEMs and carriers dragging their feet when it came to software updates? We've had a healthy dose of reality since then, and while the WP landscape may not be quite so fragmented as Android's, it's far from a well-oiled, finely tuned machine. To that effect, many AT&T Lumia 900 users are only just today getting their Windows Phone 7.8 updates. This update contains the latest 7.10.8862.144 system software we saw arrive in March, correcting ...

At Pocketnow, we have a responsibility to try the new, the fresh, and the weird - and that latter swamp is exactly the one Managing Editor Anton D. Nagy waded into with his recent review of the ASUS Fonepad - the tablet with an earpiece. Or the phone with a tablet screen. Whatever you want to call it, we've covered it - and Tony has some thoughts about using a seven-inch smartphone in this edition of one of your favorite tech podcasts. After we clear the giant-phone convo, we've got more to say. Lots more. And, doubtless to the relief of thousands, very little of it involves Samsung's ...

There's a lot of smoke recently concerning the Nokia Lumia 928, and there surely must be a fire too. We've seen a lot of leaks and heard a lot of rumors about the upcoming Lumia phone and, a couple of days after its landing page went live, Nokia has updated the info with official renders and a comparison video -- though we'll hold off on conclusions until we test the phone against other models in our own labs and environments. Above you can see the official images of the ...

Nokia is holding a May 14 event in London, and, according to rumors, the 41MP Nokia EOS will be unveiled. Depending on who you tend to believe, this might be the case or not. Digitimes quotes "market watchers" who seem to agree that this indeed might be the case. The Nokia EOS will allegedly be a high-end smartphone running Windows Phone. It will be purportedly equipped with a 41-megapixel camera sensor. Nokia is no stranger to imaging as the 808 PureView last year featured the gigantic sensor which made the phone the best camera-phone out there. The Lumia 920 brought another take on ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about Microsoft's new YouTube app for Windows Phone 8, and why this isn't necessarily good. Then we move to the Nokia Lumia 929 and its official landing page, aside from talking about the fact that Nokia shareholders aren't happy with Stephen Elop's performance, and we know why. Acer is next as the company has dismissed building Windows RT products, and we also know why that is. The Samsung Galaxy S 4 Zoom rumors continue as this poses to be the next Galaxy Camera. We end today's show talking about the Google Playground rumors, and why we think this ...

Nokia is the unparalleled king of Windows Phone smartphones. It dominates the market, and its handsets are easily some of the most desired; even users of other platforms have commented highly on their design. The company has been expanding its WP lineup to include some incredibly affordable models, like the Lumia 521, but despite all it's done, sales just aren't where they were before Nokia switched gears and aligned itself with Microsoft's platform. At Nokia's recent shareholders' meeting, investors voiced their frustrations with the choices the company has made to bring it to this ...

With all this official stuff on the Nokia Lumia 928 starting to land, that handset is slowly casting off the garments of rumor and speculation and preparing to step out into the light. It doesn't look like it's doing so without a new mystery Nokia handset rising to take its place, and today the image up above is getting some attention, thanks to that handset in blue on the right. This image comes from the cover of a leaked Nokia document outlining some of the company's smartphone strategy. The doc talks about humanizing Nokia phones through a focus on things like City Lens, Here, and tech ...

It's almost getting funny at this point, the extent to which the cat's out of the bag when it comes to the Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon, yet there's still no formal announcement of the smartphone. As we wait for word, more and more evidence of the model's existence and impending launch continues to arrive from official sources; we had the billboard yesterday, and today get to share with you both a magazine ad featuring the 928, as well as the phone's landing page on Nokia's US site. The two-page ad in Vanity Fair invites users to "capture the highlights" of their lives using the 928's ...

Then we move to HTC as the red HTC One shows itself in the UK, along with the fact that HTC has improved in sales this month when compared to last month. Then we go through the BlackBerry R10 being compared the Q10, just to make your choice for either much easier since the R10 is just ugly. Unless our crystal ball has been giving out some seriously wrong readings, it sure feels like Nokia's next smartphone to launch will be the Lumia 928 for Verizon. As if all the leaked renders weren't enough, the handset may just have been spotted in the flesh at a Nokia party last week. With a press event scheduled for May 14, we've been wondering if it isn't just about time for the 928 to finally step out into the spotlight. Today we get one more sign of its impending launch, with the discovery of an early Lumia 928 billboard. According to the Nokia fan who snapped the pic, this ad was up ...

Ever since we first heard about the HTC Tiara, which would supposedly arrive running the forthcoming Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update and get here sometime this month, we've been thinking about May as when general distribution of GDR2 might get underway. The latest news to arrive along that front suggests that it could actually be just a little bit later than that, but not by much. Down in Australia, carrier Telstra is telling its subscribers that Nokia has told the company to expect to receive GDR2 updates for testing purposes sometime in mid-May. Carriers like to take a few weeks to evaluate ...
