Nokia, a Finnish smartphone company was founded in 1871. What started as a paper manufacturing company evolved into one of the worlds largest and well known names in the mobile device market. Nokia currently works mostly with smartphones and mobile software. In early 2011 the company's new CEO, Stephen Elop signed a strategic partnership with Microsoft where Microsoft will gain access to Nokia's mobile services such as Ovi Maps and Nokia would adopt Windows Phone 7 as an operating system for their new smartphones over the company's own Symbian OS. Microsoft is already teasing what to expect for its IFA 2014 event. We know that devices like the rumored Nokia Lumia 730 might be part of the show, and its "selfie phone" capabilities will be the big news here. Still, Nokia is famous for not launching just one device at its events, and another device we've been following is the Nokia Lumia 830. This Lumia 830 would be the successor to the old Lumia 820 that saw the light of day a couple of years ago. We've seen some leaked photos that proved to be a tad controversial as we did see a camera hump that's similar to what we currently know on ...

As we start pushing into mid-August, expectations for IFA 2014 continue to grow, and we're sure to keep learning about more and more events being scheduled by companies to show off their latest mobile products. We've already been clued-in to a few, like announcements scheduled by Samsung and Sony, and this week we catch wind of Microsoft's plans, as it distributes an invite that may just be hinting at an announcement for the Lumia 730. Remember, this is the model we've often heard described as a “seflie” phone, with an emphasis placed on the performance of its front-facing camera. With ...

We've been steadily hearing rumors of Nokia's Lumia 730, or "Superman," as an early leak of codenames had it. Now we've been handed a behemoth of info in a full Nokia Lumia 730 specs leak, which pretty much confirms this device's midranger status. The phone will allegedly house a 4.7-inch display with a likely FWVGA (854 x 480), but possibly 720p resolution. It'll have 1GB of RAM, a quad-core processor with an unknown make and clock speed (though it's likely a Snapdragon 400 between 1.6 and 1.7 GHz), 8GB of internal storage, and expansion through microSD up to an extra 128 GB. As for ...

This summer, we've been keeping up on rumors attempting to detail what's next for Microsoft's new purchase Nokia when it comes to Windows Phone models, and rumors have identified quite a few distinct handsets that appear to be in the works. One we've been talking about for quite some time is this phone codenamed Superman, initially described as “selfie” phone thanks to its relatively high-res 5MP front-facing camera. The device was otherwise described as a mid-ranger, and later rumors suggested it could come to Verizon as soon as this quarter. Along the way we picked up a possible ...

Time was, the only road to a consistent smartphone experience was to drop a metric buttload of cash and hope the device lived up to its hype. If it didn't, and you didn't catch it before the return period expired, too bad: you were stuck with that $600 brick for the rest of your two-year contract unless you could find someone to take it off your hands. Over the past year, the reality of the absurdly expensive smartphone has begun to come apart. Sure, most true flagships are still awfully pricey when you look at their off-contract cost, but devices like Motorola's Moto G and Moto E have ...

Those of you that thought that the rest of Nokia was doomed after Microsoft's acquisition of the mobile division, that's actually far form true. Nokia has always been much bigger than just a company that builds phones, and after the departure of the smartphone division, we now see the company dare new odds with its Z Launcher. We praised its first beta for its simplicity, and it seems that Nokia was just getting started. The company has just pushed a new update to the Z Launcher, and the enhancements include the ability to drag and drop favorites, remove or uninstall items with a long ...

By the time you folks are reading this, I'm probably half-way to my destination at the Adriatic Sea. Taking a vacation for the first time in years was one of the most difficult decisions I had to recently take, but I'm leaving -- for a tad more than a week -- knowing that Pocketnow is in good hands with my dear colleagues I couldn't be more proud of. The Nokia Lumia 1020, with its camera grip case, is the main phone I'm packing, and you know why that is: pictures. I don't plan on taking a lot of pictures, but those that I do choose to take, I want them to be good, and the Lumia 1020 is my ...

Microsoft's launch of Windows Phone 8.1 has proven to be as cool as it is odd. We do praise everything we've seen in our extensive review coverage, but that doesn't change the fact that the company has only launched a few devices running it. If you're wondering when we'll see some dedicated Windows Phone 8.1 hardware, the answer could be just around the corner. Sources close to Microsoft mention that Stephen Elop showed off two devices in an internal company meeting last week. The first of the two is apparently codename "Superman," and according to the source, is Microsoft's selfie phone ...

The last time we compared Samsung's zoom-enabled offering, the Galaxy S4 Zoom, with a PureView camera, it was the one on the Nokia 808 PureView. Many things have changed since then, and both manufacturers have improved on the already great shooters. Samsung has released the follow-up device, this time, named the Galaxy K Zoom, and Nokia managed to take its PureView camera to the next level (and platform), with the (by now renowned) Lumia 1020. We're still asking the same question like one year ago. Which one is best: physical lens doing optical zoom, or the PureView technology? That's ...

Don't say we didn't warn you, as we knew the Nokia X wouldn't last long under Microsoft's wing. We spent the last couple of years dreaming of a Nokia Android phone, but the thought of a low-end Nokia device running a forked version of Android was not the idea. Microsoft has sadly decided to kill the project after less than six months, but at least we've found some good news for those of you who believed. Today we learn that the software updates that were exclusive to the Nokia X2 will reach the legacy Nokia X, Nokia X+, and Nokia XL. The updates are quite significant from a usability ...

Memos have been flying around like crazy over at Microsoft. Satya Nadella and Stephen "Hello there" Elop have been trying to synergize with their employees to maximize efficiency and leverage...whatever. It’s like a Weird Al song over there. Recently, Elop made it clear in no uncertain terms that Nokia's devices and services division, now living under the Microsoft umbrella is no longer in the Android phone making business. Of course anyone who has even tangentially been paying attention to the smartphone landscape over the past few years should have seen this coming, but it does beg the ...

As with the Lumia 520, Nokia is trying to prove something with the announcement of its successor, the Lumia 530. This isn't just your average budget phone, but also a very powerful budget phone that fits perfectly in the hands of those that have never owned a smartphone, and that would like to start conservatively. Still, that doesn't change the fact that Nokia isn't the only company after this demographic, and with competing devices like the Moto G, Nokia has decided to launch a new campaign to help you decide which is better. In the following videos you'll notice how Microsoft's new ...

Yesterday we shared we you a post from an AT&T community manager on one of the company's forums that seemed like it might be saying that Windows Phone 8.1 updates for some of the WP8 handsets in the carrier's stable might be on their way this week. At least, maybe; we could also read the same statement as simply acknowledging that sales of native WP8.1 devices had arrived. And considering how international updates only began last week, was it too soon to expect a US network to join in? Apparently not, as AT&T has gone ahead and formally confirmed the start to its WP8.1 updates. The ...

A little over a week ago, Microsoft got the ball rolling for Windows Phone 8.1 updates, as confirmation arrived that Nokia Lumia models would soon be getting WP8.1 alongside the phones' Cyan software updates. Of course, carriers being what they are, even that news didn't mean that users everywhere would be receiving 8.1 immediately. Those Windows Phone users in the States who check Nokia's update page are currently presented with notices that updates are still under testing across multiple carriers, with no ETA given; just when might we expect them to arrive? At lease some might turn up ...
