Ye Olde Startrek Running Windows Mobile 6

Y'all might remember the old HTC Star Trek smartphone also known as the Qtek 8500, i-mate Smartflip, and Cingular 3125. It's still the thinnest and lightest Windows Mobile Standard/Smartphone around and its successor (the Erato) has been delayed indefinitely. I reviewed the Star Trek back in the summer of 2006 and I still like it a lot. It was picked up by Cingular/AT&T later that year in a slightly different form.

Anyway, since the T-Mobile Shadow's updated ROM has been released, a few enterprising programmers at XDA-Developers have finally cooked up a number of Windows Mobile 6 ROMs for the HTC Star Trek. One even installs the Shadow's "Neo" Home screen interface. I decided to go with the "clean" version from GnatGoSplat since my version of the Star Trek only has 64Mb of storage.

This has literally brought new life back to the smallest Windows Mobile phone, and the only Windows Mobile flip-phone from HTC.
