Windows Mobile 6.5 Widgets?

The Unwired and WMpoweruser are reporting that Windows Mobile 6.5 will support a new “widget” application type based on HTML, CSS and Javascript programming languages which will use the new Internet Explorer Mobile rendering engine.

“Widgets – which are a kind of zipped HTML files containing JavaScript and graphics files (similar to Windows Vista Gadgets) – can be launched straight from the Windows Mobile 6.5 start menu.”

While unconfirmed, one would think widget developers will be able to utilize all web technologies expected to be supported by Internet Explorer Mobile, including Adobe Flash and (eventually) Silverlight. Now the real question is, will these widgets be compatible with the Palm Pre Web OS’s applications which are also based on HTML, CSS, and javascript? If not, you’d think that Palm’s Web OS applications will translate VERY easily to Windows Mobile and vice versa.
