Windows Live Messenger for Zune HD (Video)

With nearly 300 million active users, Windows Live Messenger is the largest instant messenger network in the world. Some of our readers were pretty excited the other day when we saw a few leaked images of Windows Live Messenger for Windows Phone 7. Well, Microsoft just released a version of Windows Live Messenger for the Zune HD. As you know, the Zune HD was the pioneer for the Metro style interface, so we can probably expect some similarities between the Zune versions of some apps and the Windows Phone 7 versions.

So let’s take a look at Windows Live Messenger on Zune! First off, you’re probably wonderingÂ… Does it support multiple points of presence? The answer is Yes! That means you can log into Live Messenger with the same account that you use on your other PCs and Xbox’s and no matter where you are, the same instant messages will appear where ever you are logged in. This is a great feature if you’re moving around between rooms and computers but want to stay connected to your conversations.

The second cool thing about Live Messenger on Zune is it’s Messenger Social support. It’s essentially the same as what you’ve got in Live Messenger 2011, as well as the Home.live.com web page where you can aggregate a variety of social network feeds all into one place. In other words, you’ll see Facebook updates, MySpace, and LinkedIn updates here along with any of the other dozens of social networks you can add on home.live.com.

Of course there’s instant messaging as well. Groups of friends and contacts are sorted into pivot columns, as are the chat windows. So you can easily swipe a chat to the side in order to access another one. Oh, and guess what? It also supports Facebook chat!
