Video: Hands on with the Celio REDFLY Mobile Viewer

In this video we show you the newly announced REDFLY Mobile Viewer. This lets you get the REDFLY experience without buying a unit, meaning you can connect your device to your computer, scale the screen of your WinMo device to 1024x768, and use your keyboard and mouse to control it. It's free for 60 days while it is in beta.

The software works quite well - it's easy to use, and the performance is generally good. To get this going, you'll need to have one of the devices that Celio supports (if you have a common device like a Moto Q9h, Touch Pro, etc, it will be supported). Second, download the CAB for your phone, and the EXE for your desktop. To get everything to work...connect your device to your laptop/desktop, open the Celio application, and within seconds, you've got a connection. Use the View menu to change the resolution of the phone's display.

The real question here is whether this program has any utility. Or, taking a step back, the better question is whether the Celio REDFLY (review) itself has any utility. Do people really want an extension of their mobile device? If I am traveling without a laptop or netbook, it's because I want to travel light. I don't want to tote around a REDFLY which adds bulk. If I am traveling WITH a netbook or laptop, it is because I want the full experience that is granted with that device. I don't want to hook up my phone to my computer and use an interface that is designed for small screens on a big screen. This dilemma is a chief reason why REDFLY sales and adoption has been lukewarm (thought I could be wrong about this).

Enough of the rant. Try the software - it's free, works well, and you may find a use for it!
