Video calling is rather convenient in the sense that you can use it the same way a webcam works. When a call is made just click a button to enable video calling and you and your recipient are able to view each other. Unfortunately if you are a US cellular subscriber you have probably realized by now that there is no support for live video calling.
Qik is a superior application that can be used to share and view live video (QVGA) over your cellular or Wi-Fi network. It can only be used as a one way share at the moment but hopefully future releases will allow for two way video conferencing. It works by streaming live or recorded video to the Qik website which then can be accessed by whoever you decide to view it. The uploaded or live media can then be shared over any website that allows embedded video such as Facebook.
Going on vacation? Take your friends and family with you virtually through the live video feed. There is even an option to Geotag your position using a GPS enabled device. The program and service are free and should work on most smart phones with a data connection and camera. Check to see if your device is supported. Spotted on FreewarePocketPC.
