Samsung Taking TouchWiz UI to Next Level with SDK

If you’re a fan of the Omnia II‘s UI and widgets, then you’ll be happy to know that Samsung is looking to boost widget developments with an SDK so that developers can fill the void and create more widgets.

The TouchWiz UI originated on Samsung’s non-smartphone lineup, though like what HTC will be doing with TouchFLO and the Sense UI which debuted on the Hero, Samsung is hoping to port its TouchWiz UI to cover all of its phone lineup; currently the Korean phone maker has dumbphones, Windows Mobile, Symbian in its product line. Samsung has also committed itself to Android as a platform.

Samsung is rewarding developers with a contest–prizes range from $5,000 to $20,000 in various different categories. Got an idea for a widget you’d like to see?

The Omnia II is rumored to hit Verizon Wireless soon, perhaps in time for the holiday shopping season.
