PowerRadio is a professional radio application with RDS support for VGA and WVGA devices coming from XDA Developers, which is advertised to work on Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch HD, Xperia X1, Touch Pro2 and Diamond2.

As far as terminology goes, according to Wikipedia, “RDS is a communications protocol standard for embedding small amounts of digital information in conventional FM radio broadcasts”. PowerRadio supports RDS and thus it can display Radiotext (contains information broadcast by the respective station), traffic announcements, program type, coverage area, date, time, timezone, various status flags, etc.

Download and install to device and at first run, PowerRadio will scan the entire band for stations and store them as presets. Note that you need to have your phones plugged in since they work as an antenna.

The following is a list of commands (quote):

-manual scan: long-press “scan” button to get context menu with various options

-preset buttons: long-press a button to get context menu with options for store, delete, rename

-ear/spk: switch between earphones and speaker

-mute/unmute: self explanatory

-blend: improves stereo reception and/or expands stereo base

-stereo: switch between mono/stereo
