From the same company that makes the awesome Bell UI, we get Home 2, which is very similar to Bell UI, but wrapped in different packaging. The new interface replacement works with all Windows Mobile touchscreen devices (including those of the WVGA variety such as the Touch HD and XPERIA X1).
I’ve been playing with Home 2 on my X1, and though I’m impressed, I expected a bit more for such a long wait for this product. The top part of the screen is set aside for widgets, of which there are only five right now (Today, SMS, Tasks, and World). To get from widget to widget, you gesture right and left. You can display weather on the Today widget, but oddly, they didn’t even have Philadelphia, which is a major US city. In addition, you get TouchFLO 3D-like links to certain programs through large buttons, plus the call history and contacts list is skinned.
Though the flick-scrolling in the Home 2 contacts application is buttery-smooth, if you slow the scrolling down by tapping on the screen, it’ll actually select the item you’ve landed on.
Performance overall is a bit too choppy – the animations sometimes lag, and getting from screen to screen is delayed. Thanksfully the interface works in landscape and does an interesting animation when you flip to landscape.
Pointui promised an upgraded Pro version of Home 2, which will bring a unified messaging widget, contact card functionality, and additional widgets.
Once we get a hands on the soon to be release Pro version, we’ll take a video. That said, click on to Pointui to download (free)! Just send the CAB to your device, then run it. Then you’ll want to go to Start>Settings>Personal>Today>Items, and uncheck everything, and check Home 2.
