We reported on the latest release of the PlayStation Emulator for Windows Mobile, FPSEce, as soon as it went public near the end of last year. It was such a wonderful surprise as the previous update was released long before that. Well, it looks as though the PlayStation emulator has been receiving updates quietly for supporters on the FPSEce forums as of late.
The change log is quite long, but what stands out is that multitouch is finally working on the HTC HD2 and G-Sensor support is also implemented for HTC/Samsung devices. The post mentions that multitouch is “working like a charm” on games like Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot and others. Bluetooth gamepads can be paired without additional drivers too. The log also lists other crucial fixes for button press latency and compatibility issues that can dramatically improve gameplay.
With powerful devices, like the HD2, on the market, we should see updates more frequently from the guys behind FPSEce. Check out the full changes and note on the current status of the work-in-progress version below. If you’ve donated, make sure to take full advantage of the benefits by contacting the FPSEce team for a copy of the latest version. The free version should be released soon, so we’ll be sure to keep you posted on Twitter and Facebook.

Latest update from developer (01/12/2010):
Multitouch is working like a charm, I’m impressed, games are really playable!! For now, only the onscreen static buttons support multitouch, but it’s marvelous. Now I have to finish the implementation of Digital and Analog PAD emulation by sliding fingers on the screen and then multitouch will be complete! I think that supporters with HD2′s would like to see that with their own eyes, that’s why I propose a request to send you this WIP version. I played very well Games like Gran Turismo and Crash Bandicoot with current multitouch implementation status! New supporters can receive this WIP version, current supporters can receive this WIP version just by asking by E-mail.
Changes (01/06/2010):
- Fixed strange Latency on HD2, its touchscreen interface is surely different than all other device with resistive screens. I found that Windows PRESS message comes a bit later compare to others devices with resistive Screen and RELEASE Message comes too closely after the PRESS message. Anyway, all Devices should work better with onscreen buttons now because the fix I made helps FpseCE catch TOUCH message more often.
- Fixed Same Latency Problem with Guncon emulation.
- Fixed Landscape Right Guncon emulation, where nothing would happen when we shot the left part of the screen between A and B.
- Fixed the first incompatibility problem with the old Samsung Processor and the Fast Memcopy code optimized for ARMv5 (a second problem exists, but it seems FpseCE starts now on devices with such a processor).
- Enabled onscreen buttons when Multifix is set.
- Added G-Sensor support to HTC devices which is also compatible with Samsung devices if you install the good DLL.
- Change on how it handles the G-Sensor. It’s more accurate now and very usable for platform Games, especially those which support an analog pad.
- Added support for Bluetooth gamepads like the MSI / GINPUS BGP100 or the COM1 Bluetooth Gamepad. You just need to Pair your Device with your gamepad, no need to use any driver, FpseCE handle the PAD directly… to use it, just add the following into fpse.ini in the JOY0PAD section: BTPAD=X, where X is the COM number you set when pairing.
- New BT Gamepad handling routine, more accurate, faster, and should work now on any Device.
- Starting to implement Multitouch on HD2, current version received by supporters doesn’t include Multitouch but includes the Final FIX for HTC HD2, no more Latency! To use it, you need to include a new line into fpse.ini within
HD2=1. And Be sure you have the HTC Album application closed with Task manager or Latency Fix won’t work.
(Thanks for the tip, Haroon!)
