Palm Treo 700w Blog: Day 12 – Desktop Active Sink

Is it just me, or is anyone else having trouble with ActiveSync 4.1?? Microsoft had me delete the partnership I had with my Treo 700w as part of the troubleshooting we did for some of the synching issues I’ve got, and I am having one HECK of a time reestablishing it with the device name I want to use.

What’s the WM_FirstName_LastName thing, anyway??

Why can’t I just name my mobile device what I want to name it without ActiveSync getting in the way? At this point, nearly 2.5 (that’s two and a half) hours after I got off the phone with them, I’m still struggling to create a partnership with the Treo700w (the device name I want to use) and my laptop. It’s identified the device correctly (this time) and all of the Server side services I want to use (Contacts, Calendar, e-Mail and Tasks), and has started working on my 1000 or so Contacts, but has been stuck at “Contacts: Processing” for about 30 minutes now.

ActiveSync has crashed on me on 13 different occasions today, while I’ve tried to create a partnership with this device. This is absolutely driving me bats! It shouldn’t take an experienced Mobile Devices Enthusiast, a concerned PR Rep and 2 very busy and very kind Microsoft ActiveSync Engineers to create one partnership for one device!

Nothing has changed on this device for the last 6 weeks! I haven’t added any additional software to it (other than the version of PI I put on it a while back). Heck, I haven’t even updated that version of PI in WEEKS! (I’m on Alex’s beta team…)

Something is very, VERY wrong…
