Opera & YouTube on the Touch Diamond

In this video, I’ll show you how Opera Mobile 9.5 and the YouTube applications work on the HTC Touch Diamond. Opera Mobile is the default browser in the Touch Diamond, but luckily Internet Explorer is still available.

Opera 9.5 and the YouTube application are good examples of some of the worst user interface designs I’ve ever seen. Not only is it inordinately difficult for users to discern the destinations of navigational buttons, but there’s actually no way at all to discern destinations of the buttons without activating them. Sure, using ambiguous icons makes for a cleaner design and less need to localize the design with support for different languages, but you’re also increasing user confusion, frustration, and drastically reducing intuitiveness, which are all things that Windows Mobile is already chastised for. Applications like this are going to make it even more confusing for the casual user.

On a positive note, playing YouTube videos on the Touch Diamond looks excellent!
