About a week ago, the guys at MoDaCo started extracting apps from the Samsung Omnia II. The apps being pulled at the time were pretty basic (calendar, calculator, etc). This time, they managed to pull the one app everybody seems to wantÂ… Midomi. That’s the good news. Would you like to hear the bad news?
Unfortunately, all these extracted apps are randomly missing features and Midomi is another victim of this. At the moment, it seems to only work over a WiFi connection. The menu button doesn’t work either. However, you’re still able to retrieve song info by humming, singing or playing the actual song, which are the main functions of the app. It’s not a perfect port, but I’m sure many of you are eager to try it out anyway. Head over to MoDaCo for the download.
While on the subject of extracting Omnia II programs, Samsung’s exclusive SharePix app has also been pulled. With SharePix communities, you can easily upload pics to Facebook, MySpace, Photobucket and Friendster (Flickr & Picasa don’t work yet). Grab it from XDA-developers.
If you missed it, check out our full Omnia II review.
Update: it appears there’s a fix to get Midomi to work over a standard data connection (thanks, “guest” in comments section). Simple registry edit will do it:
- Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMelodisMidomimidomiGU IDType
- Change value from 3 to 1
Also, a version for WQVGA screens is now available.
