As it stands now, developers must choose in which country their application will be distributed in the Windows Marketplace for Mobile. This puts the developer at a disadvantage because they can’t, for example, submit an English application to Germany, Italy, or any other non-English speaking country. Also, Microsoft charges an additional fee for each additional country to which a developer submits their app. The result of this has been that in in the US (screenshot left), there are many more apps than found in, say, Germany (screenshot right).
Well, it looks like this issue will soon be remedied. According to a spokesperson from Microsoft:
“Microsoft is aware of this problem. However, for the launch it wasn’t possible to change this Marketplace Mobile behavior but Microsoft will introduce a solution later which will allow the end-user to switch Marketplaces”
So hopefully it won’t be long until we can access either a global Marketplace, or be able to switch localizations.
