Backup software works very well for what it does, but it’s limited by the design of Windows and particularly the fact that a program often writes several keys into the Registry as in installs which it needs in order to function. A backup program can, of course, backup both the program’s folder and the Registry, but, what if you have two separate programs and want independant backups for both?
Enter CabBackup. CabBackup is designed to give users the ability to quickly install and uninstall any program without having to connect to a desktop via ActiveSync. It does this by recreating the installation files (called CAB files) which contain all the information and files necessary to re-install the program. Using CabBackup, you can create a CAB installation file, that runs on your Pocket PC, which can re-install any program already installed on your Pocket PC. These CAB files can be stored on a storage card. Since you can unistall and reinstall programs as you wish, you’re not only protected from a hard-reset or battery failure, but you can also install only the programs you always need while still retaining access to program you might need.
