We thought that with Windows Mobile 6.5, which was a touch-focused upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1, we’d see the end of non-touchscreen devices, but that was not the case. Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard is now available for devices like the HTC Snap and Samsung Jack, which simply adds Marketplace for Mobile, plus other small changes like a new version of the default browser. It’s clear that with Windows Phone 7 Series, non-touchscreen devices will become a thing of the past. One of the mandates from Microsoft is that all WP7 devices ship with capacitive touchscreen, which precludes any HTC Snap-like device from running Windows Phone 7 Series.
Some of us will be sad to see non-touchscreen devices go. They often offer superior one-handed usability and smaller form factors. Will you miss them?
