Android G1 Usability Speed Test

Our usability speed tests started with the Treo 800w in order to show off how amazingly fast the device is. We set out to create a list of average tasks that all smart phones are capable of and by video taping these tasks performed as quickly as possible, you can get a feel for how easy and quick the device performs.



The T-Mobile G1 with Google’s Android performs quite well. You can create keyboard shortcuts for any of the applications, thus making it very easy to switch between programs. It also supports searching through the programs folder in order to make finding programs easier. There are a few stumbling blocks however. Accessing the programs listing requires many more steps than we’re used to in Windows Mobile (WM’s Start Menu is one tap away in all applications). Also, the email application has trouble searching for user names in my contacts list sometimes. In our tests it was unable to find John Doe by typing “Doe”.
