Alchemy Project: Silverlight to Power Custom Windows Mobile User Interface
File under: News
Microsoft will be shipping a standalone version of the Silverlight platform, a multimedia and user-experience rich platform that effectively competes with Adobe Flash. Silverlight will be used to enable developers to create custom user interface overlays to hide the underlying Windows Mobile OS and provide for a richer user experience with Windows Phones. The project, called Alchemy, will allow developers to create smooth transitions and 3D animations in their custom interface. This essentially means that Silverlight would also ship, in addition to being a browser plugin for Internet Explorer Mobile, as a standalone player.
The project would make it easier for device manufacturers and developers to create custom UIs like the
TAT Juggle UI and the TouchFLO 3D created by HTC for devices like the
Touch Pro2.
