One of the changes to Windows Mobile 6.5 will be that Pocket Internet explorer will be replaced by Internet Explorer 6 Mobile. The difference, as seen in this video, is that IE6 mobile brings desktop-like page rendering with flash support, plus a heavy dose of finger-friendliness. This is an important change because while other mobile platforms such as Android and iPhone have brought great native browsers from the start, Windows Mobile users have always been left with the incapable Pocket Internet Explorer (unless they downloaded Opera Mobile 9.5 or one of the many other Windows Mobile browsers).
We have to wonder what this means for Opera. They've been able to score contracts with big OEMs to pre-install Opera Mobile 9.5 onto many recent devices, which has been applauded by end-users since Opera Mobile is a great piece of software. Will these contracts continue now that Windows Mobile will ship with an improved native browser? Most likely. Since IE6 Mobile probably won't be updated or changed until the next version of Windows Mobile, Opera will have the opportunity to continue to release incremental updates to build upon their work and thus innovate further.
In this video, we use the Davideuck_6.5_V-4 Touch HD ROM from XDA-Developers. We don't recommend that you try to install a modified ROM.
