It looks as though Ozzy Osbourne has made quite the pick by choosing the Samsung Jack. The device is quite powerful for a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard device. In this video we explore the hardware of the silvery-shiny Samsung Jack.
The follow-up to the BlackJack II now incorporates Wi-Fi, a feature not seen on too many Windows Mobile Standard devices. The core of the Jack contains a 528MHz 32bit Qualcomm MSM7201A processor with 256MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM (about 96MB accessable). The tri-band (850/1900/2100) UMTS/HSDPA is capable of up to 3.6Mbps download speeds for on-the-go high speed internet. While the quad-band (850/900/1800/1900) GSM will work in a majority of the world’s networks. The screen is a 2.4″ diagonal LCD (Color TFT/TFD) with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA) 65,536 (16-bit) colors. The dimentions are 4.4″ x 2.4″ x 0.5″ (112 x 61 x 12.7 mm) and weighs a mere 3.6oz (102g). The directional pad is unique by utilizing a pressure-sensitive input for fast scrolling. The camera has been upgraded to 3.2 megapixels, but still does not have a flash.
The curved-square-button QWERTY keyboard is much easier to type on than the BlackJack and BlackJack II but not nearly as good as the Motorola Q9. The Jack supports up to 16GB with a microSDHC memory card, but not only will the battery cover need to be removed to insert or replace a card, but the battery as well. The battery itself is a 1480 mAh Li-Ion which Samsung states is capable of delivering 7 hours of talk time and 12 days of standby time. The device has Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR. The proprietary power/sync port supports USB 2.0 and the Samsung Jack comes with a 3.5mm headphone adapter.
Overall the Samsung Jack seems to pack quite a punch for such a compact and sleek device. For around $99 USD, with a new 2-year agreement and $100 USD mail-in-rebate, it is well worth it for this Windows Phone.
