According to Electronista, Dell is readying its efforts to bring a Dell-branded smartphone soon. Reports from Shaw Wu, an analyst for Kauffman Bros., show no definitive launch date nor specifications. At this time, this will have to be filed in the rumor mill.
As standalone PDAs are being phased out, so has the exceptional Axim line offered by Dell. The Axim represents a powerhouse PDA for its time that was cheaper than the competition. Since the Axim has been phased out, there have been rumors on occasion of Dell tackling the smartphone market.
While the Axim line relied on Windows Mobile as its brain, a potential Dell smartphone could either use Windows Mobile or Android. Given Windows Mobile’s close integration with other enterprise solutions like Exchange, ease of synchronization, and device management, Dell may go with Windows Mobile initially.
