LG's Windows Mobile SureType GW600 Closer to AT&T

The LG GW600 was first reported in our summer of smartphone coverage for AT&T leaks as the LG HQ, a Windows Phone with a SureType keyboard (SureType is a QWERTY method of input that was popularized by the BlackBerry Pearl and assigns two letters per key, saving keyboard space yet allowing for a slightly roomier keyboard compared to a single letter per key on typical QWERTY layouts).

While originally thought to be a non-touchscreen device, it seems that the GW600 will actually be sporting Windows Mobile Professional. Specs and details were released by the FCC, the US regulatory organization that tests cellphones for approved use. A release on AT&T should be forthcoming now that it has gained FCC approval.

The LG handset will also feature a light sensor, also called the proximity sensor, which turns off the screen when you bring the phone close to your face during a call. The technology was popularized by the iPhone's initial release and could also be found in the HTC Touch Pro2 and the LG Incite on the Windows Mobile platform. Here are the specs for the AT&T bound LG GW600:

-Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.
-EDGE/3G with the 850MHZ and 1900MHz bands.
-3.1MP camera.
-Proximity sensor/light sensor.
-20key SureType-style keypad.
-Micro-SD card.
-WiFi.
-Bluetooth.
