We had talked about the contract pricing and promotions for the Verizon Wireless Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus, but there are a few readers who have asked me about non-contract pricing. For the commitment-phobe who can’t seem to pick up the pen and sign away two years of their life over to Verizon Wireless, the Palm Pre Plus will retail for $600 sans contract and the Palm Pixi Plus will go for $400.
According to the Verizon Wireless rep that we spoke with, although you can purchase the phone at its full price, this isn’t pre-paid pricing: “It essentially is a month to month contract that acts like post paid.” Additionally, while a contract and subsidy are not part of the asking price when you purchase the Palm webOS devices at their full asking price, you’d still have to add a $30 smartphone data plan on your month-to-month post-paid account with the carrier.
For those interested in tethering, be sure to also check out the Mobile HotSpot app.
Both handsets will go on sale beginning January 25th. Additionally, if you do want to sign away two years and don’t mind a commitment, Verizon Wireless is sweetening the deal between January 25th and Valentine’s Day by offering its BOGO promotion–buy one Palm Pre Plus or Palm Pixi Plus and get a free Pixi Plus–both the purchased and the free handset will have to be under contract and would make for a good Valentine’s gift.
